Contact from Carol's spirit
Aug 13th, 2006 at 11:38pm

Carol was a very bright and well-organized woman.  She just died of cancer.  In the days before her death,  she went down to the funeral home and picked out her own casket.  She then called all the men she wanted to be her pall bearers.  They were very choked up by this request.  She also specified exactly how he funeral service should be conducted.  I was one of three that Carol wanted to share reflections on her life.

Carol's minister was on vacation when she took a turn for the worse.  So her friends called me to come and be with her.  Her friend Cathy took a leave from her job to move in with Carol for 4 weeks, so that she could die at home.  I have never seen more love expressed at a death vigil.  I recited Carol's favorite psalms to her and encouraged the others to express their feelings to her because hearing is one of the last senses the dying lose.  Eventually, I sensed that she would last until around noon the next day (Monday); so I left and came back around 11 AM the next day.  To my amazement, none of the others had left or even slept.  I held Carol's hand as she breathed her last breath around noon.

I encouraged some of those present to expect some form of contact from Carol.
Tonight I got a call from her boyfriend Chet.  He was sitting alone quietly in his home, when a loud shout pierced the silence: "Chet!"  It was a female voice, no doubt Carol trying to get through.  A while later, heavy objects began to fall to the floor for no reason and the house shook and creaked loudly.  Chet had never sxperienced such noises in his home!  I told Chet that these were telltale signs of genuine contact and encouraged him to call the others from the death vigil and share his experience.

Why did Carol conatct Chet and not her two sons and her close friend Cathy?  I told Chet that we apparently need to be in the right state of consicousness to facililate such contact.  Often the deceased manifest their survival to an unexpected friend or family member rather than to the expected contactee.  I told Chet that throughout the death vigil, he was totally euninhibted in expressing his emoitions.  He often wept openly.  But I suspect that his childlike openness to what the death process might bring made hiim the most likely target for verification of Carol's survival.  I'm confident that Carol has been trying unsuccessfully to contact the others.  Perhaps she will succeed.

Don

P.S. I still have been unable to contact Ralph.  He never answers his phone.  I'll start trying again and will let you known if I succeed in verifying my dream contact which implied that he had died.

Dear Berserk,
Carol and her friends were very fortunate to have you there with them. It's good to hear from you.

Thanks for posting, Don.  I know how difficult it is to have someone die in your arms.
It is strange that those who believe they want contact the most may not be the first to get it.  My paternal grandmother died in her sleep in her apartment thirty years ago.  The night she died, my sister had a dream (she must have been around 10).  She saw her fully dressed, waving goodbye.  She thought it odd, and told my dad who drove to her apartment and found her dead in bed.

These incidents are important but unsatisfying.  Verifiable contact often implies communication of something that could only have come from the deceased.  Bruce described this in his explorations.  You did as well.

One of the most vexing issues of consciousness continuing on in a "heaven," is this lack of usual communication.  It is what skeptics feed on.

I believe you hit the nail on the head in that the living person must not have hindering belief systems and must be open to and need the contact.

Good to see you, Don,

Matthew

Dear Berserk:

Isn't it amazing how peoples' behavior changes or gives a hint of things to come in the future near the time before thier death? I found the same to be true with my boyfriend (you can read my post "Premonitions" in the dream section which explains my experiences if you wish) and with other poeple aswell.

I had a client who resided in one of the psychiatric boarding homes I work in and he was very much a " one-word-awnser" type of man. A  couple of weeks before he passed away there was a dramatic change in his behavior also. He chatted away a storm with me and it really caught me off guard. He was so open and asking me questions and telling me about his day. It's interesting how your friend also started making preparations for her funeral "just" before she passed on...........

I beleive also that her boyfriend recieved contact because he was open to the experience. ................You know how we were programmed our whole lives to feel that "We will believe it when we see it....."? Well, in order to explore the afterlife we have to train ourselves to beleive just the opposite...."I will believe it ...then I will see it". I have found this to be so true! Many of my clients who have been diagnosed with mental health concerns happen to be far more open about thier "paranormal experiences". I feel that this is because they have fluid boundaries and they let there imagination go free as apposed to the average joe who may try to live in a more logical and contained mannor....and have possibly more rigid boundaries. I find people who are uninhibited and can think outside of the box definatly have an easier  time axcessing  the afterlife. This is why sceptics rarely experience ADC's for there own eyes.............Baby Duck

P.S. I am sorry for the loss of your friend and I hope you recieve conact with her soon!

Thanks for all your thoughtful replies:

Clearly a skeptic is less likely to receive contact from a deceased loved one.  But it also seems misguided to simply assume that a compatible belief system makes such contacts possible.  For example, no one present at Carol's death vigil believed in ADC more than myself; yet, though I have experenced ADCs in the past, Carol has not yet contacted me.  In my experience, it actually seems counterproductive to want such contacts too intensely or to try to make such contacts happen.  In some sense, one's psychic sensitivity is very crucial, but such sensitivity can come and go; for unknown reasons, it can greatly fluctuate over time.  I go through phases in which psychic experiences effortlessly come my way.  But in other periods, my psychic channels seem utterly stifled.  I'm trying to understand why such changes occur.  I'm currently in some sort of psychic funk and would like to break out of it!

i do believe high and low psychic periods have to do with the cycle of the Moon.  Full Moon is a high time, for some, it is a window that is open.  Dark Moon is also a high time for some.  The Moon waxing into fullness is a energy period to put things into action and the waning Moon is a time for contemplation and stillness.

i agree Beserk when you say it is counterproductive to want contacts too intensely or make contact happen; because Carol now has a much higher energy level then we do on earth and it is this level of energy that will make the contact, not the other way round as we are still in the laws of gravity.

When people go home they take their memories and sometimes these memories need to be validated by the people in the memories.  The best we can do for a person who has gone home is keep our memory of them alive by thinking about them, all the things done together and most of all be happy and laugh and smile because this is what they would want to tell us first.

This is the initial phase - immediate memories and then it is said that the memories then begin to detach and become part of the Wholeness of the person who becomes Whole.

This is based upon Steiner research of life after death.

Carol is home and all is well with the world.

Hello again, Don,
Wanting psychic experience implies a reaching out for it. Maybe that reaching out in itself constructs a barrier?  or What if the word used was 'love' instead of 'psychic'? Did you say psychic to avoid love ?
I'm not criticising, as I admire that you  or anyone can attend to a dying person. I'm just looking for possibilities.
