Here's the really big fear
Jun 15th, 2006 at 5:35pm

Hi there,

I realised today that my biggest fear is trying to experience the afterlife, and having nothing at all happen. I think that would leave me in an even more vulnerable state than I am at the moment. If it didn't seem to work for me in any way, shape or form. I don't know what I would do if that was the case.

Hi Dave I remember a few years ago i felt like that, but my first experience was when i saw my aunt josephine on the same night as her funeral, and i said good bye to her .When my father died i started going to the spiritualist church and gained a lot of knowledge there, as there were mediums every week doing clairvoyence and the messages coming from my father through certain mediums were accurate . I also sat in circle for 3 yrs and i am now a practising medium though im not quite there yet . I just learned in a way step by step .I have seen my father a few times since he died ,i feel as if i have seen enough to convince me of life after death .If you keep an open mind Dave then just learn gradually ,thats what i did  always kept an open mind .There are genuine mediums out there and false mediums as well . But you will have your own experiences, and then you will find your own evidence for life after death ,its just like everything else it takes time. Love and god bless you juditha

Hi Dave,

Try doing this instead:  gently rest your attention in your chest area. Place it there as if it's a substance. Thoughts will arise... let them. Just keep your attention on the sensations in your chest. If you're pulled away by a thought, gently return to resting your attention in your chest.

Then: in whatever way you presently conceive of love, begin to feel that in your chest. You could remember a time of feeling love, evoking that felt memory and let the memory inspire the feeling.

If you can keep your attention on the sensations in your chest and then evoke the feeling of love, it will produce a response from your body. It's sometimes called 'warming the soul' or waking up. You'll be in a place where fear cannot exist. THAT'S the place from which to patiently begin exploring the afterlife.

(My gal just got home and I gotta get off the 'puter, intended to respond to you on another thread, we'll talk soon though)

      best to ya,

                      Tim F.

I would try what Tim suggested Duboisuk... Also, I wouldn't suggest incorporating fear into any of your attempts to experience the afterlife by trial and error, it will only make it harder for you to experience anything. -- (Fear and Love cannot exist together... Hence, one has to make a conscious choice.) Since Love is the way to open up new portals of yourself... I suggest dumping the fear... even accepting the prospects of having "nothing happen" with pure unconditional love. Remember that there is nothing wrong with you when you're not experiencing what it is that you wish to experience. We've all been there, and some are still there. It can be a life-long journey/process. You've got to be patient and accepting of every stage of life that you find yourself in. For every stage is crucial to your soul's growth. Even the stages where you feel lost, and without hope... Those are generally the stages that lead to the "most" spiritual growth afterwards, for it leads/willingly forces one into self discovery & self reflection. Our souls came to planet Earth to learn/experience new/different things, and to grow from all of it. Learning experiences aren't meant to be feared. You will experience new things as those new things are meant to be experienced. Just play around with it for awhile, and take new experiences as they come... Do a lot of research, and compare notes. See if anything that you've discovered has been experienced by others, and cross-reference. Also, be aware that not everybody's experiences are the same. You'll feel it inside of you when you know it to be true.

(And remember the key ingredients to spiritually opening up yourself/ourselves are Patience, Perseverance, and Pure Unconditional Love.) (P.P.P.) = Perfection. Exclaim

Hi Dave,

Something that I find helpful is to add a breathing exercise to what Tim has described.  When you breathe in focus on breathing in through your chest.  Notice how your abdomen raises.  Now breathe out from your stomach.  Notice how your attention is focused naturally in the center of your body.  As you breath out, allowing yourself to feel the love that is located in the center of your body... this is the location of the divine essence within each of us.  As you focus on your love you may notice how it up wells and fills your entire being with joy.

Love, Kathy Smiley

Thank you all for your responses. It is most heartening to be in a community where there is such great fellow feeling. I am trying my best to put the fear to one side, but the physical world keeps prodding me with lots of fear engedering events. Nothing too serious, just a great deal of paperwork and officials who keep screwing up.

Kind of makes me hanker for the otherside a lot more than maybe I should do. I find that every day my life in the physical is becoming that little bit more pointless in stages.

Dave,

Our dear Kyo that posts here recommends a book by Byron Katie called Loving What Is.  This book has been on my mind all day today.  I don't have Kyo's webpage for this bookmarked.  Perhaps he will pop in with a link for us.

Hi  Dave i used to feel like that many times ,hanker for the other side,i have had many obstacles in my life so far, which i have had to work my way through, but its the fact that we are all spirit and are on this earth to progress ,and to progress we have to have these obstacles in our way through life ,if we did not dave we would not learn very much.Lifes path is very hard to walk ,but we all have to walk it.We all chose our life before we were born ,the medium at the spiritualist church was telling us that last night and he also told us, when we look in the mirror at ourself, we say to our reflection i chose you.AsK god to help guide you through the bad times in your life ,spirit will give you guidence if you ask for it .Love and god bless you juditha

Hi Dave,
Even though I have some experiences which indicate that there must be more that this, I still am also in doubt if I'm just emagening it. It's the problem with these non fysical things. You can't get a watertight proof for it. I'm used to calculate things if I'm not sure, used to procedures and science and these things can't be in the world of sience.

I'm also searching for the truth, though I'm not afraid to "not experience anything" because I do experience things which can't be explained by sience, but to me it's more a matter of lacking proof to get my stubborn brain believe in it.

It's a journey, but it lacks proof, is not constant and it comes in all sorts of unrecoughnisable shapes, so pretty hard to see what way you have to go sometimes.

Physical life is never pointless. You'll learn from it (that doesn't mean that it's going to be fun).
One thing you should always keep in mind. If you can see yourself straight in the eyes when looking in a mirror (that means that you do your very best and stay honest to yourself) you keep your shoulders high and your back upstraight.
Don't give other persons, procedures or paperworks the possibility to walk over you. Make them remember that you are a person and that that person has a right of excistance.
In most cases (insurance company's for example) they forget very easy that the number on your account is representing a person. The solution is straight; call them, tell them who you are, what situation you're in and how their paperworks influence your life. Make clear to them that they shouldn't read no 124578, but Mr Dave "Whatshisname".

The easiest way to make problems smaller, is attacking them and make yourself heard. Read about and practice energy building, that's in much more use for you now then the knowledge about afterlife. (that comes later, when you're in a more stable part of your life)

Keep your head high, be proud of yourself!
