Listening and trying to hear all that you folks are saying, I really understand better why religions have a liturgy, and repetitive prayer/meditation. There is so much process in accessing and opening up to one's higher self. Trying to find the path without a guide is hard.  Unless of course, one is blessed with an experience which forces the door open for you, such as an OBE or contact with a spirit.

How about an Eckhart Tolle? That sounds like an interesting experience.

Actually the liturgy etc in religion doesn't really seem to work. It seems to me it is designed more to keep one entrained in cultural conditioning rather than to open one up.

Hi Lucy: By cultural conditioning do you mean enchrenching a belief system? If it means enchrenching a belief system it will definitely take one to a Hollow Heaven.

Lucy,
What I really meant was that the repitition of prayer, mantra, chant etc., seems to be in part a way to prepare your consciousness (like establishing the flow of energy), which attunes you to your higher self. Dogma aside, I guess I see what they were getting at.

Hi Bardo: My understanding of chants and repetition is that it gets the subconscious to act according to the vibrational frequency of the chant, mantra etc... be careful about what the chant or mantra is.

When I used the word "entrainment" I was thinking of the process by which pendulum clocks, when placed together, tend to move to the same swinging rhythm.

And aren't we humans like pendulum clocks.

I think you caught my meaning though.

In the context of religion, sometimes I wonder if achieving enlightenment as defined by whatever system it is, is really not that difficult, and that some of the techniques are desgned to make it harder than it is to keep people from achieving it...because if people really achieved it the system wouldn't have control of them any more.

Charley, keep trying to beat that urge!  Not everyone should procreate.   Wink

Hi Charley,

As you've just found out, we don't escape everything when we go into the non-physical. So you may have alot of memories and wishes that are stored up and they go with you.
Maybe you didn't tell your guide directly that you don't want this bother.  Tell him that you don't want these thoughts and urges anymore. He may help.
Also you could try not to give such thoughts more power. Try avoiding sexy movies, photos etc. Try to think less about sex. Try eating less meat and more fruit. I don't mean to sound preachy but those are ways to get that energy  spred around better.
You won't be giving up sex entirely.
It's worth it to have the non-physical freedom to move in non-physical realms !  Good luck, Charlie!

I guess I don't understand why a sexual overtone has to muck up spiritual enlightenment. I hear it all the time, but I just don't see the problem. I feel its a carry over from earthly feelings that sex is naughty or something. I even find myself feeling that way sometimes but for the life of me I just can't see why any sexual themes should make spiritual endeavors more difficult. This, to me, is only the case if you hold some kind of belief that sexual thoughts are a deterrent to growth. I guess I'm saying that it doesn't hold me back.

Yours,
Beau

Its an interesting conundrum- but don't Taoists and Tantric adepts use sexual energy as a force toward achieving enlightenment/ union ?

I have heard it said that testosterone is an inhibiting factor on growth ( females do seem to demonstrate less ego if conversation boards are anything to go by  Wink ) but would that mean that neutering would lead to a kind of instant path to enlightenment !? As a red blooded male I hope not...

Well, it can definitely lead to union, but I guess enlightenment is the BIG question..

Hi Beau and heisenberg69,

I'm assuming you are talking about something different than CT meant when he said it was an annoyance.
Energy that accumulates in the first and second chakras is a sexual urge more like what's called lust or an irritation.
When that energy rises through the whole system, as you say, through kundalini and Tantric methods, then it becomes sacred for the transformation it can provide.
It would be impossible to teach Tantra or kundalini principles in these posts.
But I could have suggested CT look them up on the web instead of assuming it was just a first chakra problem.
Charley, my apologies. Beau and heisenberg69 are right. You could learn to use the power of that energy.

Hi Bets: Did you try to make contact with me Sat, 10am pst:

While in session a female head popped into my view frame top right hand corner… it was a bluish gray form.. I ask it was Betson. It said ‘yes’ but I don’t necessarily know that for sure..

The head favored Christine O’Donnell

But with curly brunette hair (I assumed it was brunette tho the whole image was bluish gray.

Hi Seraphis,

Sorry, it wasn't consciously me. I was having a late lunch with my husband then.
