Hey Charley, what's to fight about?  You can continue living your hate-filled/hateful, power obsessed life and end up where you belong.  I don't think any of the regulars on this board are inclined to grapple in the muck with you.  I'm sure you can find some who will elsewhere.

No logical response. Religion has convinced people that there’s an invisible man…living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn’t want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer and burn and scream until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you and he needs money.

C. Tuna,

While it is true that many life forms struggle in a dog-eat-dog fight for survival human beings have this unique ability to recognize certain values and emotions which transcend the mindless violence which you so greedily espouse.

The problem with your kill or be killed philosophy is that like begets like in the physical world.  And so, if your consciousness can't understand the nature of love, compassion and kindness, then you have chosen your path; hate, violence and destruction.  The law of attraction is one of the most basic ideas out there.  You reap what you sow.  The golden rule - do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  From childhood, we are meant to experience this simple law, yet you obviously never learned the lesson.

You receive what you send out.  Like attracts like.  So yes, you want to act like an animal, who can not use his/her perception to transcend the death cycle, then you will be treated like one.  Just understand, that this is something you, Charley Tuna willingly impose upon yourself.

When you act lovingly to others, when you act out of charity, and with compassion, then you set yourself on a different path. And the same is bound to come back to you.  Not immediately, but surely.  Many examples exist of this law in the real world.  We are all meant to gradually experience it and understand it.  For those who do, they tend to reach a level of love and peace.  That is not to say that they don't experience loss and tragedy; but in my experience they experience far less, and these negative episodes pass quickly.  For those who dwell on exercising their own power over others, they reap what they sow, and are miserable, never achieving real happiness.

You are where your thoughts take you.  And no one on this forum wants to follow you into your own level of hell.

Matthew

I always wondered about people with brain damage or under medication that makes them aggressive or unable to judge ethics correctly. Is this a special trial for them, so they find their way back to a loving life even through this great hurdle (it can be done - you can learn how to treat other people well without feeling the proper emotions) or is it just tough luck?

It is possible, btw, I have experienced my very self how certain chemical imbalances suddenly makes you a different person - emotionally (mentally I was still the same, at least so I think).

At Charley: I think there is a reason that most people have come to the conclusion that living the darwinistic life is neither in your own best interest nor in the best interest of humanity as a whole. Even many atheists - humanists - believe so. What is "strong"? What is "weak"? A physically strong person may well be the emotionally and/or intellectually weakest. It would certainly not be in the best interest if they ruled unchallenged and throughout evolution, we have found a way (law, order etc.) to deal with those who insist on taking what they want - in the best interest of the group as a whole.

I don't know if Charlie's philosophically inclined or not but the viewpoint he's putting forward was the basis of Nietzsche's thinking with his critique of the 'weakness' of Christianity. He pushed the idea the idea of the 'Übermensch' or supermen rising above others to rule them. His ideas were a major influence on Hitler and latterly Satanists such as Anton LaVey. Basically morality and compassion are for losers.. winners ('supermen') rise above that and take what they want, ethics are for the 'weak'.

One problem with this ( aside from the general human misery it can bring e.g the desolation of Europe after WWII) is that it is based on the idea that this material world is all that there is, this life is the only one. To put it mildly ( as members of this board know)   evidence points to the contrary....

Picking up on Chrwe's point about chemical imbalance I would also add trauma. Childhood traumas or later ones such as battlefield/conflict trauma can quickly lead one to believe that its a 'dog eat dog' world out there. Addressing trauma requires patience and love. As an aside a good friend of mine recommends Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy as a powerful tool for treating trauma.

Dave

p.s Chrwe- rather than even humanists realising that Darwianism is not an ethical solution I would say especially so !  Smiley
