Novice in metaphysical quandries
May 8th, 2008 at 11:52am

Hi, I'm obviously new to the board, and I felt like dropping a few questions to see what folks here might think about them.

I've been struggling with things of "an intuitive nature" (for lack of a better description) for some years now, and I've recently had a bit of a breakthrough, which I find exciting yet a bit daunting. I would say that my present beliefs/theories/hypotheses would be a soup containing a dash of Jung, with good helping of spiritualism, based on a thick stock of my own inexplicable experiences.

I don't really want to give a life story because I'm not that incredibly self centered, but I would like to ask a simple question, which would be; what the hell is the point of out of body experiences, strong vibrational sensations, and the like?

Like, honestly, I will accept anything into my life as long as I know it's important to my development as a person, and important to the goals I've made for myself, but I've been experiencing strong vibrational sensations, which when taken to a certain limit, seem to drop me into some sort of border world.

I haven't managed to do this while conscious, but it tends to happen upon going to sleep, or waking, and it is ENTIRELY UNPRECIDENTED. At first I took it as a dream image, and was striving for a metaphorical understanding of it, but upon reading "Unobstructed Universe", I began to think of it in a different light, after which it's been happening tenfold, almost every other night.

I have no interest in straining myself, and trying to focus too intently on this phenomena. I have a busy life and many things to do, and I honestly don't see the point of engaging other planes of consciousness, or whatever the hell this is.

So does anyone have any suggestions of how to go about this, and any clues as to what the purpose of it might be?

Thanks.

I believe we all have a Greater Self, we are intimately connected too and part of.  In some respects you could say we are our Greater self, but a less conscious and aware (for now) version of same.

Sometimes the more conscious and aware level of the Greater self has different ideas for us and our life, than our conscious, personality mind has.

It may involve in becoming increasingly open to, and exploring the nonphysical dimensions.

A similar thing happened to Robert A. Monroe, and he ended up writing some books about his experiences.   It was difficult for him in the beginning, because it generally did not fit in with his ideas, preconceptions and prior beliefs, and conscious desires for his life.   He was a business man concerned with making money and developing interesting and pioneering technologies.

Once he let his curiosity get the better of him (and dropped the various fears he had about this stuff happening to him), a whole new Universe opened up to him...   Something tells me that in hindsight, he was probably quite happy about the earlier "interference" in his life.

   So, go with the flow.

Hi unwarranted,

I am brand new also and I could only hope to have your experiences.  I have had to work at it.  I find it exciting personally and I cannot see anything better for me than being able to prove to myself what will happen to me when I don't die or to be able to have marvelous, wonderful, explorations.
I have been able to enjoy my life here more now that I am not frightened of the unknown.

Love.

Hello:

I agree with what Justin wrote. Robert Monroe went out of body for years before he found out that his spirit guidance/friends were helping him.  The same happened for me, even though I haven't gone out of body as much as Robert did.

Eventually Robert found his I-there, which is the same thing Justin means by greater self. It may be that before you incarnated plans were made for you to eventually make contact with your greater self/I-there/disk/total self/oversoul/higher self/whatever term you use. You'll make contact with the best friends you could ever have, so look forward to doing so. Smiley

I believe the most important thing to do is to grow in love as much as you can. Going out of body is secondary, even though in some instances it might help you with growing in love.

Hi Justin. I essentially agree with what you say, and I know full well that all I can really do is just go with the flow. It's definitely a struggle for me right now because I find it difficult to balance decisions in the "real world" (due to the nature of this board, I presume I have to put that in quotations, in a semi-farcical manner), with the fact that I'm prone to heavy unconscious influences. I occasionally feel like a bit of a puppet, and I never quite know who is pulling the strings. So, going with the flow, I find that daunting as I'm "in solutio", so to speak. As a side note, none of these experiences really test my fundamental beliefs, as I've been led into a philosophy which can accommodate these phenomena.

SHSS, I honestly would not recommend my experience of life to anyone, as it's preferential to simply go along and follow your conscious decisions without having them pulled apart by other influences, until your mid-life crisis, or whatever. One thing I was trying to convey in the first post is that I'm not going into this for recreational purposes, nor am I attempting to explore the unknown, as I was already fairly optimistic about my previous philosophy, which disregarded the afterlife altogether (I presumed that when I was dead, I wouldn't be alive to care about being dead). Still, I wish you good luck on your journey!

Recoverer, your post is uplifting. If such a thing is possible, I would find it greatly rewarding. I've had difficulty with people not relating to my experiences, which is kind of painful. But my oversoul, or whatever is going on over...wherever, probably gets it.  Smiley I do hope we meet. Honestly, my biggest challenge right now is getting over my intellect. I think too much, try to explain too much, for me to really get anywhere. It's like turning off a waterfall, which is blocking off my receptivity to, "love", "unseen forces" or whatever...wherever.

Greetings,

What alot of Monroe/Moen-influenced explorers do with their non-physical abilities is work within a gap between the higher heavens and physical life. We 'retrieve' souls that got stuck in some self-made hell due to their undue guilt etc. While doing these retrievals we often find out more about spiritual planes that then motivates more exploration. Etc.

All that seems to clear the channels within us that allow us to have even more non-physical contact.
The whole realm of spiritual experience just keeps growing if you keep your mind open and do not let fears stand in your way.
In other words, i agree with SHSS  Smiley

SHSS: I'm not entirely sure if you're new to the board, or new to these types of experiences. Upon rereading your post, I assume that you've had some success?

Betson: First off(everyone), it's so great to chat with people who say what you said so matter-of-factly. I'm incredibly tired of having to apologize for myself, or even censor myself around family and friends in order to quell their boredom or disbelief of things that I experience. Frankly, they would worry about me if I were to mention this stuff to them.

Secondly, I was unaware of the two authors you mentioned, and I admittedly find your occupation a bit unusual...does the spirit world offer you any sort of compensation for your work? How do you know your employers are on the level? Are you sure you aren't getting caught up in some sort of spiritual pyramid scheme?

I'm joking (sort of), but I don't quite understand your intentions. I suppose it's important work. I guess I was expecting that anyone who traversed to other states of consciousness would go there primarily to gather ideas or knowledge that could be applied to the "real world" as opposed to becoming more involved "over there".

Anyhow, very interesting. I'll take a glance at those authors when I get a chance.

Hi Unwarranted,

I am new to the forum and one other forum like it, but not new to consciousness exploration.  I am here because I enjoy talking to like-minded people and to learn more about how to access more of consciousness.  I also do not talk to my family and/or friends about it.  Why?  I am not ashamed of it; I just don't care for the ridicule.
I agree about these excellent books.  Robert Monroe is a classic trilogy.  Bruce Moen brings it further up to date with his four afterlife books.  Must have's IMO.

Wishing you the very, very best,   Smiley

This really makes me laugh a little. I feel kind of like saying, "Good luck with that."

What I mean is, good luck with trying to control the wind.

What I mean is, I sure don't think "Spirit" actually cares if we are busy, or if we have other plans. Sorry...but, that's my experience.

love, b

SHSS: Great! Look forward to chatting with ya.

Blink: Yea...I see your point, but you aren't quite aware of my situation. See, I've recently moved to a new city, and am actively searching employment. Now, unless the spirit world is planning to offer me a job, this is fairly odd timing. -Perhaps- the spirit world has plans for me which include me being a street person (politically incorrect - bum), although I kind of doubt it.

(This is why I was wondering if Betson is getting paid  Grin)

Greetings,

I thought you were kidding, Unwarranted--an unwarranted assumption.

I don't get paid. Cheesy

Hi Unwarranted,

quote: "I guess I was expecting that anyone who traversed to other states of consciousness would go there primarily to gather ideas or knowledge that could be applied to the "real world" as opposed to becoming more involved "over there"."

This is indeed an important point. My respond is, the main thing about those experiences isn't that you gather new knowledge/tools which you can implement in your old life, but it is those experiences change your viewpoint, and therefore your life, so that old goals and wishes become meaningless due to a new perspective.

I follow the previous posts and recommend the books of Monroe and Moen. If you read them in chronologic order, you'll see what happened to them when they gained this greater awareness.

Thanks blink. Again, I pretty well agree with that. It's just that when your viewpoint has been switching for years, you begin to feel like an amorphous blob. I don't think that I'm awfully greedy in wanting to be able to pick a single direction and go in it, and enjoy it...NOW. I will try to pick up those books (they are at an unfortunately distant library), but I'm getting the feeling that this out of body experience thing was a bit of an extraneous side show which might become more important in years to come.
