These guys are looking for a ghost in a town hall not that far from Cape Cod. They grow cranberries in Middleborough.

The preliminary results indicated there might be a presence, but the final report won't be available until next week and will be given first to the town.

Local Fox reproduced some pictures taken at a wedding reception in the hall and purporting to contain orbs. I'm not sure of the quality but here is the link to a video. I find it interesting that the local news is taking such an interest in this town hall...

This seems to be an on-going saga. The results will be announced tonight, but I thought this preliminary article was also interesting:

http://www.patriotledger.com/news/x2081380419/Haunted-happenings-at-Halloween-ba...

This article is interesting because it mentions ideas about things that make the site more ghost-friendly, you might say.

I had not heard of the dictinction between residual spirits and active spirits; that is interesting.

These comments were interesting too:

"Martin said the Town Hall follows the lines of a Greek temple.

She said there’s a “strange significance” in where the building is located, how it was built and where it sits, and called it a receptor for energy."

Some of the older links I put here have expired so I don't know if there is still a picture of the town hall posted.

OK the town page might stay posted! Here is the town hall:

http://www.middleborough.com/

Why would the shape of the building influence whether either residual or active spirits hang around?

The building was rennovated sometime recently; these are just pics of the outside:

OK the verdict is in and ..Ta Da!...the town hall is haunted.

Not surprised, but it has been interesting that this has been an on-going discussion.

here's the news report:
http://www.enterprisenews.com/news/x1959711798/Verdict-in-Middleboro-Town-Hall-d...

Since I don't know how long this article will be archived, here's a few points from it:

Quote:
Pat Martin, team documentarian, blames several factors on the hauntings. Town Hall is reportedly built on the grounds of an Indian village and a former school, and its height attracts lightning, which provides energy.

The building housed a jail and was the location of the famous “mob riot of Middleboro,” in which a citizen was arrested and tried to be freed by angry supporters.

Quote:
To those who may feel spooked next time they visit town hall, Martin says there is no cause for alarm.

“It is our opinion that none of these energies pose any threat to the building or its occupants,” said Martin, adding “there’s nothing hurtful or malicious.”

I don't see the report but here is Enfield's site:
http://www.freewebs.com/enfieldparanormal/middleborotownhall.htm

but I can't find what the other group said.

The better pictures were posted earlier.

There have been annual followups to this story. This year a group that does stories for tv is here. The implication is that this will be on Travel Channel's Paranormal Challeng. I don't know if they are still trying to photograph the ghost.

http://www.patriotledger.com/news/state_news/x1440916970/Middleboro-selectmen-ag...

From the links on the web page, there is a page that purports to give recordings.

I don't think the material from the latest investigation has been aired yet. The new season on the Travel Channel will start soon but I don't see WHE this will be aired. the other stories might be interesting. (I don't have cable so I won't see it).

http://www.ipi-radio.info/tag/paranormal-news/

I tried to find out about earlier investigations by looking at the Bat State Paranormal Society website, which did not have curent info on that. They did have a video of an investigation at another town's building. East Bridgewater is not that far from Middleborough. The video was clearly meant to be entertaining as well as informative, but it was kind of interesting to see how they conducted an investigation. Some of the people were interesting. I didn't hear the voice on the recording but the quality of the video is not top.

http://www.baystateparanormalcenter.com/

I don't know when this was made. i also went to the youtube version because other videos are linked on the side of th epage. I see that the same person who posted this has posted several others for SCARED but I didn't see one for Middleborough Town Hall.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePcYvH-6EwE&feature=player_embedded

oh wait! video! bet the selectman enjoyed the interview. (if you don't like chick fights just skip the first part; this is for tv right?)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xLGM4GK7Jk

yuck this is pretty silly; the SCARED stuff was more serious. Middleborough must just enjoy the PR.

is this a convincing evp?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2v6M9iW1B4

OK I guess Ithink this latest "investigation" is a flop. I tmight be interesting to see what the other people found a year or so ago.

I guess until someone invents some good technical equipment that this sort of "investigation" is going to be on the edge. And the more serious stuff probably is really boring to watch.
