Hi George- White Star's listing of the Titanic's crew gives two O'Conners, one a Trimmer, the other a Bedroom Steward. Also there are two Johnsons, one an Asst Ship's Cook, and the other a Saloon Steward.
Purely on the assumption of an association with your story and the linked occupations, my guess would relate to the two Stewards, giving occupations that would require standing watches, but without duty stations in the ship's interior.
Unfortunately, if you agree or disagree, your mind is no longer virginally pure with respect to this topic and may fabricate additional "proofs" due to simple suggestions. (False Memory Syndrome) Still, it seems reasonable to me.
Dream some more and see what else comes up!
