MRI vibration
Oct 27th, 2006 at 1:36pm

HI,
I just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else. I have had a few experiences when in a sleep-wake-state, where I get his buzzing noise very loud over my head and sometimes I have let go, and had a quck oobe. Sometimes it has frightened me to where I can't let go and open my eyes to stop it, or get up out of bed.
Yesterday I had an MRI, my first one, and while each image they did, the sound got louder and louder, and the buzzing over my head from the MRI, I felt as if I did before in my sleep-wake-state, that I was going to have the oobe again. So, I had to stop it from happening, so I would open my eyes and try not to let it happen. I would have like to see what would have happened, but I had to stay still, I couldn't move anything, and was afraid that If I let it happen.. then they would have had to do the MRI all over again. So, I guess my question is.. has this happened to anyone, hearing the sound and feeling the vibration from the MRI. I understand that the hemi-sync  (tones?)makes it so that you are able more easily to achieve the obe(which I have never done or heard) I just found it to be quite interesting that the MRI could put me in that 'zone' too.
Thanks...
Aras

Hi Aras,

Since you had this experience before ever having had an MRI, why do you think the one you began to feel during the MRI was caused by the MRI?  Were you very nervous of having the MRI done?  I believe nervous and excitement can easily cause those pre-OBE feelings.  Also, why did you think that having an OBE during your MRI would make them have to re-do the MRI?

HI Vicky,
I think it was caused by the mri because of the noise and vibration, it happened about 4 times during it. I was wide awake, not in my usual sleep-state when it happened previously. So, I felt that the noise and vibration maybe got to a certain frequency for me that may have caused it. I don’t really know. I wasn’t nervous or excited at all either. I was very relaxed as I had taken a benedryl before having it. I felt that I couldn’t let it happen because I was not suppose to move any part of my body. I didn’t know what would happen if I had let it go and went oob, my thoughts were that possibly I would move my arms or legs or something and that would screw up the mri and they would have to re-do it.

Well I guess it's possible the effects of the MRI caused you to re-experience something similar to your other pre-OBE feelings.  You don't necessarily have to be in a sleep-state to go out of body.  If you were to have left your body, you wouldn't have moved your body, of if you had moved your body it would have pulled you right back in.  When I have had spontaneous out of body experiences while completely awake, I worry too what will happen or is happening to my body.  It reminds me of the feeling you get when you are drifing off to sleep and you dream of falling and you get jolted awake.

Hi Aras-
The vibration and buzing are associated with changes in kundalini energy. Many people who write about OOB experiences have complianed about them. When it happened to me it scared the heck out of me - but it's a normal thing if you are inclined to exteriorization.

I have no idea whether benedryl has any effect in causing the buzzing and vibration, it's essentially an antihistamine. I don't like what it does to me, so I'm not going to experiment either Wink The MRI equipment has nothing at all to do with the inner states except to recall them to you. In my own case, I thought the sound was somebody coming through the house on a motorcycle. Then I stopped being sensitive to it.

Wow, Dave..I didn't know the vibration/sound was part of Kundalini..learn a new thing every day!

I often feel the vibration..sometimes so strong, I worry that others near me will feel it too.. Grin

I think it would have been interesting to see the results of an MRI, while oob...I think I would go ahead and go.

I used to experience the buzzing years ago when I was having spontaneous OBE's.  Nothing to worry about. At least you have this board. I knew what it was for obvious reasons but I felt like I was being pulled out by someone/something so I fought it.

Love,
Rob

I have also experienced the vibrations/buzzing whilst meditating. Sometimes the vibrations are so strong that the bed will begin vibrating as well. I usually experience a sort of "clicking" sensation of my consciousness/awareness prior to the vibrations; the blackness in front of me elongates and becomes tangible/3-dimensional. Also, I can feel waves of energy pulsating up and down my body accompanied by extreme heat. It is usually at this point that I begin to feel a sensation of a soft bedsheet loosening and flowing within my physical body -- very soothing.

As Rob has described... I too have felt as though I was being pulled "upward" by something. Although it felt as though it was just my lower extremities being pulled/suctioned. It felt like my physical body was very heavy and sinking through the bed while my essence was becoming lighter and finer.

Thanks everyone for your input. I also posted my original post on another astral forum and one person said this (below) which I found to be interesting.

That's very interesting.

I have had two MRI's in the past few years, and on BOTH occasions, the noise, buzzing, humming and clicking from the MRI machine sent me straight into the MABA state. I would drift in and out between PWC (physical waking consciousness) and MABA (mind-awake-body-asleep), staying on the borderline between these two states. It was kind of important not to drift off to sleep, because I had to keep my leg perfecetly still, and drifting off to sleep - who knows what twitching and kicking I would do whilst asleep? But I remember thinking "this is the most relaxing noise" at the time and wondering if it would be a useful hemi-sync type of noise to use later. I always intended to post about it, but never did. Your post reminded me! It seems that your MRI experience was EXACTLY the same as mine!

interesting the similarities found here. Dave, the motorcycle through the house was similar to my experience of a train rumbling by 2 inches from me. Aras, the click I experienced several times and immediately went conscious obe during it.
the soft sheet of soothing I relate to fluid waves of the light body. never had an MRI, but music of a flute nature can stretch a semi obe sensation as if I were a rubber band being stretched. I think certain sounds like hemi sync helps balance the two halves of the brain to enjoin them and obe can result.  many obers report a sinking sensation while others report a rising sensation.

cheers, alysia
