death bed phenomena
Aug 24th, 2006 at 10:24am

My sister-in-law died of ovarian cancer earlier this week.  Before she passed she spoke about a little girl that was in the room with her (only she could see the little girl).  She kept asking the little girl to go away but the girl said that she wasn't going away until my sis-in-law went with her.

After she passed I was scanning pictures to make into a DVD for the wake and when I opened one the the frames I found a  black and white picture hidden behind the main one.  It was a portrait of a young man in his 20's.  I took this picture to her sisters and asked who it was.  They said it was Uncle Steve and he was dying of skin cancer and was in hospice care and in similar condition to my sis-in-law and they said, "Oh!, by the way, we called last night to see how he was doing and his caretakers were saying that he kept seeing a little girl, a "fairy girl" (his description), in the room whom he kept telling to go away but she wouldn't until he comes with her.

We speculated that it may have been a girl that had been "miscarried", a sister/niece that they didn't know they had that came to escort them.  I'm still a bit puzzled by the phenomena of little girl apparitions.  I've heard many stories of deceased relatives coming to escort death bed patients but never about a little girl.  If anyone has heard of similar stories please let me know.  Thanks.

Love,
Rick

Hi Rick,

I'm sorry to hear about your sister-in-law.  But this is fascinating about the little girl, and it's remarkable that you were able to get more validation about it by finding the photo and then asking about it.  Otherwise, you might not have found out about Uncle Steve having the same little girl visitor.  I wish it were possible to hear more of his description of her.  I wonder what it was about her that he describes as a fairy.  I also have to wonder why they both would tell her to go away.  It would seem to me that any afterlife visitor would be able to project PUL to comfort the patient.

Hello Rick,
What a rich life you are having! Aren't you glad you are here for this?  Would you have given the little girl much thought if you had not had your previous spiritual experiences?
Again, I've not had such an experience, but I'm sure others will help  with the support and information you want.
Thanks so much for telling about her. I feel lighter when I read your letters here.

Thanks for the kind thoughts.  The "fairy girl" description included wings from Uncle Steve.  I don't have any more details than that.  When someone is in the last stages of cancer you're lucky to get that much description.

Another interesting phenomena that occured was at the funeral.  I've been practicing the "feeling love" excercises from Bruce's book so I've been really sensitive to that energy vibration.  I was a pall-bearer for the funeral and at the end of the service as we turned to take the casket out of the church, in front of all the friends and relatives,  I felt a wave of "love" directed at the casket that moved me to tears.  There was no feeling of sadness on my part just awe at the love that she generated.  Made me feel really small.  She was a special education teacher and helped a lot of families with down syndrome children.  The appreciation for her work was very deeply felt.

I'm sorry to hear about your sister-in-law. I'm getting that this little girl was one of her former down's syndrome children that she helped and that has passed over and was there to help her pass over. I don't know if that would be related to the fairy child.

Hey Rick, actually with regards to this little "fairy girl". A relative of mine whom passed away from lung cancer two years ago had a very similar experience a few days before she died. She kept saying that there was a little girl in her room with bright blonde curly hair. She kept saying that this little girl was there to take her someplace, and that she was her guardian angel. My grandma had also heard "bells" in the room a few hours before she fell into a coma. There were no bells in her room...

Hi Rick,

I'm very sorry to hear of your family's loss.

Things like this are very common.  What happens just before we leave our body during transition is our energy field that holds the body in place begins to let go of the physical and begins merging with the spiritual.  The chakras open widely and look almost like gaping holes and I presume the veil between the physical and spiritual also is vanishing and this is why someone in this condition can see spiritual beings and hear their voices quite easily.  Others that are able to raise their vibrations are also sometimes able to see and hear spiritual beings.

I heard a voice call my father's name twice just before he left his body behind.  I also saw his energy leave his body twice.  Shortly after I heard the voice call his name I saw him (his energy) leave his body, go back into it a moment later and then leave again.  I could see his energy body, but not that of the voice that called his name.  Even though I couldn't see them I knew they both were looking down on me.  I looked up and said goodbye to my dad and told him I loved him and that he should go into the light.  I felt the need to tell him that as he was very afraid to die.

Many blessings and love to you and your family.

Kathy

Hi Rick

I felt the same way at John's funeral - the feeling of love that I experienced from those present told me that he touched many lives.  (On a lighter note - one of my close friends told me to stop looking so "radiant and joyful" - it wasn't right to be that way at your own's husband's funeral!  Grin)

A few weeks before John died, one night I walked past the bedroom Isaw him suddenly sit up and look around the room and watched as his eyes seem to follow "someone" walking across the room.  When I asked him about it he said that he thought it was me in the room - but then he was a skeptic and didn't believe in life after death.  I'm sure he saw something as he had a look of awe on his face.  Before he died, while in a coma, I was able to explain to him what he would be going through.  He seemed restless at times so I believe that he heard what I was saying.

My views on death have changed enormously since then and I now view it as a "joyful" experience for those who pass over.  And for the ones left behind?  If we help them in their passing we can only look at it as a positive experience, one that will sustain us for the rest of our lives - this is what I told my three teenagers as they helped looked after John.

Good to see you back, Rick

Love

Yes, it's very possible that one of her special ed students visited her and helped escort her to her residence in the next world.  That was one of the possibilities that was being discussed.  That would have been very appropriate.  She really loved her students.

I don't get sad at funerals too much either.  I feel somewhat left behind.  Somewhat jealous.  But then the survival instinct  kicks in and I stay focused in physical reality.

The fairy girl phenomena is very interesting to me also.  In dreams I've seen fairy type beings who seemed to always be helping me to fly.  Especially at times when it seems difficult to break free of gravity (in dreams it must be that gravity relates to your attachments to earthly things and not a scientific law).  After having these dreams I came across a Central American (Mayan) story about Quetzalcoatl which included thousands of tiny fairy beings.   I forget what their significance was.  I also wonder about J. M. Barrie and his book "Peter Pan".  Was it just folklore that he was using to create his story or was he communicating references to his own astral travels?  Makes me wonder.

What comfort must that bring to the ones departing.. Normally at a funeral where I'm supposed to be sad, I'm not. Even the one from my brother I wasn't sad.
The times I've been sad was mostly on funerals from others, specially one from the wife of a collegue at work. I knew he didn't believe in anything after death, wanted to share the knowledge I was given by my brother, but he refused to accept it..
I was sad, really sad because of his grief, his pain, because he really was still in love with her.
His wife was probably relieved, she had gone through an awful time having cancer..

I still hopethe seed I gave him will be planted one day..

Interesting thought. I don't see much on it at a quick glance at the web, but Wikipedia site did note that there was death around the people for whom it was written. Of course, it was the end of the Victorian times, when fairies were popular.

Rick,

My condolences.

Your post reminded me about an article I read several years ago about hospice.  The reporter was sitting at the station nurse's desk in the wee hours of the morning.  Another nurse walking by casually mentioned that she had seen "the children" going into the room of one of the patients.  The station nurse responded by saying she would call the patient's family right away.

The reporter thought it unusal that children would be wandering around in a hospice at such an hour and asked the station nurse to explain.  The station nurse explained that some of the other hospice nurses could see these children, and some could not.  But when the children entered a dying person's room it was an indication that this person would die very soon, and so the family would be called immediately.  She further explained that once the children entered a room they would engage the patient and encourge the person to join them in playing games.  Once out of body they'd play children's games, waiting for family members to arrive.  When the time was right these children would escort the patient out of the room.

Helpers, in my opinion, are always present at a person's passing, always.  Their task is to make the transition from this world to the next as smooth and easy as possible.  Sometimes these Helpers are a group of nonphysical people who present themselves as children, like the ones in the reporter's story who were 'working the hospice.'  And, like the little girl you describe in your post.

Rick, thanks for sharing your experience,

Bruce

Hi Rick,

my condolences as well.

I have heard stories such as those that Bruce mentions in the previous post, including both children and others in adult form, that are seen in places like Hospice and ICU.  I know that Bob Mckelvey could comment on a few incidences as well.  It is very encouraging and comforting to know that there are Helpers or Guardian Angels (however one understands them) there to assist.

Could this be where the artistic conceptions of cherubs might have been inspired?   Smiley

You take care, Rick.

Hi Bruce, I found it interesting what you said..."Sometimes these Helpers are a group of nonphysical people who present themselves as children..."

Are you saying that Helpers can decide how they want to appear to people?  I guess I just never thought of that.  If this is so, what is the purpose of appearing as children to so many different people?  Is this a very common type of Helper?  Like I wondered in my above post, I wonder why the two people in Rick's stories at first told the child to go away.  Maybe they understood the implication of death and wanted to try and postpone it as long as they could.  But I would think the appearance of any Helper would bring nothing but peace and comfort.

And yes, it is very comforting to know we will always have Helpers during transition.

Love, Vicky

Bruce,

Thanks so much for your thoughts and your wonderful story.  I'll pass it on to my sister-in-law's family.  I'm sure they will appreciate it as much as I did.  They were very open to all of the phenomena surrounding her transition.

Many thanks to all of you who posted.
