Grateful
Nov 22nd, 2005 at 11:39pm

When I was young we used to say this prayer
every night, night after night, at the dinner table:

Thank you for the world so bright,
Thank you for my food tonight,
Thank you for the birds that sing,
Thank you God for everything.

As a child I did not particularly feel
a lot of gratitude, but this was a comforting
ritual. When I remember gratitude nowadays
it is rare...so much of life for me right now
seems to be a searching without resting....

So here's a simple thank you to you all:

Thank you for the words you write,
Thank you for your dreams tonight,
Thank you for the thoughts you dare
To bring among us and to share.

So many days I've watched nearby
And seen us lifted toward the sky,
And thought it such a blessed thing:
Such gifts are angels' offerings.

Very nice, Blink.

I remember one from my childhood, which I learnt when I was about 9 or 10, and is still just as appropriate today:-

Lord, keep us safe tonight,
Secure from all our fears,
May angels guard us while we sleep
`Til morning light appears.

now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the lord my soul to keep, if I should die before I wake, I pray the lord my soul to take.
