Comfort at the Time of Death??
May 10th, 2005 at 6:58am

I wanted to ask this question of everyone. I have noticed something with people who are dying or who are on the brink of dying from what I have read and what I have seen with my own beloved grandfather....

Is it me, or does it seem like people who are on the brink of death don't seem to be upset or overwhelmed in fear of dying unlike those who ponder about the meaning of life, question the Afterlife, etc.?

I know that some of said that those on the "other side" contact and comfort them so the transition is easier, even tho skepctics believe that people speaking towards the ceiling or stating that they are in conversations with family members, etc. are just hallucinations. But I do wonder how much information about that is out there. I know a few books have been recommended, but I do not recall.

This also parallels with the theory that children are still attached to the spiritual realm and that is why they speak to "imiginary friends" and we have Star Children, etc. because if being born means you are closer to the spiritual world, then doesn't death mean the exact same thing?

Outside of those points and questions raised, does anyone have accounts of someone going through an extreme panic stricken period around the time of death, because that would be interesting to hear, and any other points or information shared would of course be welcome. Thanks.

I have read several such stories of people suddenly lighting up as death approaches, but that was before I started to keep track. I may have read them in Fate Magazine, under the heading of "true mystic experiences", or "My proof of survival". These are sent in by witnesses.

But when I went to their site, they only let you read a few articles in the current year.
The readable ones are in red. These are an interesting read , but I did not have time to look at the whole year to date to see if what you want is there. Maybe someone has the back issues.

Hi JG,

I believe that as one approaches death that there is communion with those who are on the other side waiting to assist in the transition. I have not heard of any panic at these times, only loving acceptance of going home to be with loved ones who have gone before us. I believe that it is similar to young children seeing spirits too.

Hi JG,

They are called "Death Bed Visions" - Carla Wills-Brandon has written a book about them.

http://www.carlawillsbrandon.com/

Look at the upper left-hand side for "Death Bed Visions" and there will be some info. You can also run a Google search for Death Bed Visions; there's information at Victor Zammit's site and also Kevin William's Near Death Experiences site.

Emanuel Swedenborg wrote a lot about the other side in his famous book "Heaven and Hell".  I especially recommend "Window to Eternity" by Bruce Henderson and also "Awaken From Death" - excerpts by Swedenborg, edited by James Lawrence.

With Peace and Blessings to All,

Hi JG,
From what I have witnessed, I would say that much depends on the person's belief about death and their emotional state at that time.

My father was panic stricken for hours before he passed.  The more his lungs filled with fluid, the more afraid he became of not being able to breathe.  Once he settled down from the medications being given I'm sure, I heard a voice that called his name twice.  He left his body for a few moments, then went back into it for a few moments and finally left it for the last time.  I saw his energy body both times.  I could only hear, but not see the person calling his name.  This showed me that even if people are in a state of panic at the time of death.  Help is nearby.

Much love to all,
Kathy

Even though I "don't have time", I started reading the Fate magazine material anyway. In the January 2005 issue, there is the story of a woman who materialized hours after her death, appeared solid the way George sees them, greeted a friend, and hugged him. This is very relevant here, and I reccommend this.

Go to arhives, click on 2005, and then January, My proof of survival.  See also March, for another survival story of a ghost seen shortly after death.
