I think I can understand your French ex.

I know a woman here in Amsterdam who came to Holland years ago from NYC.
She can speak Dutch but I find she has a terrible accent.
She has difficulties pronouncing the ch as in schreeuw (shout, yell). And when she does that it really hurts my ears to listen to that. And she has other difficulties with Dutch as well.

Kind of like a mayor in the army doing a mayonaise...
get it?

I would much rather have it when she would speak in plain English to me. That would be much easier to understand and not so painful to my ears.
I don't see that often though. It has been some years since I last saw her.

I have recently read that scientists have identified an area of the brain devoted to the ability to feel empathy for others, and to regret one's actions. It appears that in some people it is not fully developed, which would explain some of our differences.

In that case, it would be a physical condition which a person may possess which affects their life and those around them tremendously.

Oh dear, Isee - you're supposed to help banish my scepticism, not draw me back towards atheism!  Grin

Scientists could also identify a portion of your brain where you see something such as a sunset. This doesn't mean that the sunset doesn't exist.

Oh, but I cannot banish anyone's scepticism.

Obviously, the brain does many things, but there are a lot of things we cannot explain about it, aren't there?

And, would there be any fun to it at all if there were no mysteries in life?

What if we knew everything there was to know about ourselves -- from day one. What then?

Then we would be living like kings of love on another planet.

Praat jij elke dag met Nederlanders of praat ik elke dag met Nederlanders?

Bijdehand dat je bent.
