I'm happy your mother had this experience, Recoverer, that she had an experience that was meaningful and encouraging for her. Isn't that what we all want in our time of need, to know someone is on our side?
With respect to Focus27, I used to do the same thing in my twenties, picturing my body fighting off illness. Later, I learned later that it also works to picture my body "in health" -- such as to vividly picture a time in my life when I really felt healthy and energetic, at my best.
This is the type of guided meditation that I seek out and I find helpful, those that guide my thoughts and feelings into a mental/spiritual place which is my personal goal. Results do follow. Lots of people do this kind of mental prep work in one form or another.
The results don't always "wow" me immediately, but in general it has always been beneficial for me. I've been doing these kinds of guided meditations for 25-30 years, and they've gotten me through many a tough situation.
However, it's not for everyone, and some people just don't want to participate in any kind of activity which hints at "mind control" by others. Personally, I'm grateful for it, as I don't know who or what I'd be without the beneficial influences which have graced my life. I am now and forever grateful to all those who have helped me.
