Flying Dream
Aug 6th, 2012 at 10:36am

It has been literally years since I remembered my dreams, due to a medical condition. So this is significant for me, that I was able to even remember a dream, much less a flying dream. The same medical condition has made it necessary for me to live outside, unable to go inside most buildings, so I have felt that my life no longer has a purpose. All I've done for the last year is watch TV, which is decidedly not my preference. I'm living primarily in a metal garden shed, where I have a computer and a TV.

There was a dream that I think started out as being associated with a TV show I watched….I overheard a man telling others (all known to me) that he could manage what was being thought of as my uncooperative bad mood or something like that. He was going to be manipulative and put me in my place, so to speak. However, since I had overheard, when he offered some interaction in a friendly way I demurred, knowing what he was really up to. I left and that is where the flying dream started. I started out over cement but it was a nature area, and I can’t remember why I jumped forward as if to be lying on the ground but instead I went up and was flying. I thought that that group I had walked away from, could see me. I was going over landscape, green landscape maybe in a small canyon, and went over a grid of transmission wires, rather close. I was aware they were electric wires. Then I didn’t have visual any more and was flying blind, and I ran into something warm; I knew it was more transmission wires, and tried to back away from them. I was then falling a long way, but it was a floating fall rather than a plunge. I landed ever so gently on concrete stairs, and thought to myself, it’s true what Bob said about our being protected; maybe I do have a purpose in my life that I don’t know about yet. And then I woke up.

I'm heartened by having had this dream and of course I have some ideas on what it means. If it were *your* dream, what would it mean to you?

Great dream. If it were 'my' dream, it would mean to me that no matter what anyone else might think, there is definitely a part of myself that knows how to be free, knows what it feels like to be free, and knows how to return safely to any situation. I have had similar dreams, in which I was flying, and was descending through trees or other structures, and the descent was a floating feeling. Even if I didn't particularly want to stop flying (and who does?), the floating part is reassuring.

This dream reminds me of one I had a few nights ago, which surprised and delighted me. I was in a social setting, an entertainment venue, when I found myself skating on the wooden floorboards. But, I didn't have any skates on. It was just my own feet, somehow sliding and whooshing along, dancing along, practically flying along, all around the place, arms out, whole body engaged, just invigorated and feeling a lot of pleasure, skating around and around the room. I don't know if anyone else was doing it, but I didn't run into anyone else, and it felt as if there were no obstacles.

A wonderful dream, to fly. To be free from gravity, high above your surroundings, to see so much and to feel so free.
