A Movie--"The Whistle Blower"
Apr 2nd, 2012 at 5:44pm

Has anyone else here seen this movie?  Interestingly, i had been wondering if perhaps i was focusing too much on the subject of corruption, the issues of this world, and outside hindering forces.  I picked this movie up without knowing much about it.

Before i outline some things about the movie, it's probably important to first say that yes, there is a lot of beauty, positivity, relative Love in this world.  It's important to recognize and perceive these moments, acts, and patterns.  Otherwise, focusing only or too much on the issues and problems might make us personally depressed or apathetic, and who would that help--not us nor the Whole.

The Movie (Spoiler alert:) is based on a real life cases involving human sex trafficking in war torn countries and a few people's very brave and courageous efforts to end this by bringing more global media light to these cases and this general issue.   The human trafficking system is one of the fastest growing, underground criminal "businesses" in the world.  This movie was extremely upsetting and difficult to watch and became more upsetting when one finds out that all the individual women, forced into sexual slavery and kept there by various forms of extreme torture, covered in the movie were based on real cases and files.

We follow, Police-Woman Kathryn, who decides to take up a job oversees offered by a Private contractor in connection with the U.N. and other organizations who became directly involved with "peace keeping" in these war torn countries.  She is lured by both the promise of making a difference in an area that needs it and a lot of quick money--100, 000 for 6 months of work.

She starts finding out about these underground criminal activities fairly early on, but for awhile remains naive to how much of an issue this is & how many people were taking bribes to look the other way.  At first, she thought it was only the local police force that was involved with the corruption.

She later finds out through extensive research that all levels of government, private sectors, and "peace keeping" organizations directly involved with these countries are quite complicit.  At almost every step, these lying hypocrites try to block her and her efforts to get to the full truth.  Meanwhile, she becomes directly aware of such atrocities, such horrendous mistreatment of fellow humans, all in the name of money and people's sick, materially addicted appetites.

How could humans treat fellow humans like this?   How could the very people and organizations sent to protect, those like the U.N. and the police, not only turn a blind eye but also engage directly in supporting same for greed based reasons and/or partaking in the total abuse of these women?

That Human trafficking and these practices is a growing phenomena and "business", what the heck does it say about this world and about the people that are more directly "running" same?   Perhaps we might think, "Oh, this only happens in messed up countries like the ones involved in this movie"  but what if there are pockets of this happening all over the world, in the U.S., Western Europe, and other supposedly more civilized and healthy areas?

The fact that people involved in those "peace keeping" organizations and "service work" were often populated by people coming from those supposedly more civilized and healthier areas, but were complicit in these particular cases... might make one think twice about the "ok-ness" of this world and the state of many humans in same.

There is nothing in my conception that could be so blatantly wrong and really downright evil as the extreme abuse, torture, and literal slavery of these women and furthermore the complicity of the many in either allowing or directly fostering this!

What the heLL is wrong with this world and with people?!  How can these things be even conceived, let alone practiced on a mass scale and often so well hidden?   Here's one reason, is because while there are plenty of good hearted people in this world, a lot of these good hearted people don't want to become consciously aware of these realities for how potentially upsetting it is.  It's easier to go "la la la" and perhaps sing A Koonah Ma-Ta-Tah instead.

An interesting question might be, is the degree of depravity and corruption in this world, just related to humans and human nature alone, or do we get plenty of help and nudging in these more extremely unloving and cruel activities, to sink to lower and lower depths?

Justin:

I didn't read your entire post because of the spoiler alert. Nevertheless, a while back I thought of getting the movie from Netflix but didn't after finding out it is about human trafficking because that subject annoys me. It kind of annoys me when a movie annoys me. Cheesy

No worries Albert, just sing A Koon-nah Ma-Ta-Tah, and all will be fine again--your annoyance will melt away under the sweet Blissful nature of that EnLightened song--bringing you true and complete enlightenment and total bliss if you chant it over and over again.   Roll Eyes

I think i'm going to start calling myself, "Guru A Koonah Ma Ta Tah"  Cheesy
