I often seem disrespectful towards these mediums on here but it is simply me venting out my frustrations that I hold in check when I am with these mediums, testing them.

I also wanted to add that I do not really believe in fraudulent mediums, generally speaking.

I believe that THEY believe they are mediums/psychic.

They are just wrong in they're belief. (Based on the evidence of failed medium sessions.)

Mediums take any success and pump it up and throw it to the forefront, and pretend the completely off the wall incorrect guesses are non-existent.

All of the preferred higher end mediums/psychics cost $275.00-$300.00 Plus dollars. That is why I recommend a large budget spending account.

I've already spent about $300.00 in between 4 mediums that have shown no psychic/medium ability, zero correct hits, and many odd guesses including completely incorrect names, genders, and even family members that are not dead.

Maybe I am just unlucky.

Focus 27,
On  this site, there has been an in depth debate on this issue for many hears.  Mediums have "proven" an astounding ability to retrieve information about the deceased, but I'm convinced that they derive this information through ESP from the living or the collective unconscious rather than from direct contact with deceased minds.  For the best survey of the evidence for and against the various forms of mediumship, the best source is the comprehensive survey of David Fontana's book, "Is There an Afterlife."  Why not get that book, start a thread on it, and enjoy a productive discussion of Fontana's evidence pro and con?   If you don't read a book like Fontana's, you don't even know enough to have an informed opinion on the issue.

/shrug.
I have not read that book.

This does not mean I fail to understand the concept that if a person thinks about Donald Duck, the medium can come up with the word Donald Duck.

Further, it does not mean that I have not heard practically every theory including thought clouds, collective consciousnesses etc.

When you obsess about afterlife theory, you read up on multiple possibilities, regardless of whether or not you have read a specific book.

The most logical answer is that the afterlife does not exist. It fits in perfectly with modern science. The concept of some sort of memory blob/cloud that mediums can contact is silly. I'd believe spirits over that one any day. PERIOD. Mind reading on the other hand is viable, but, the fact that mediums claim in reports to receive information the sitter does not know, yet can later verify, adds question as to the mind reading being the absolute explanation.

Far simpler to state that mediums and psychic are simply an illusion.

You remind me of Fundamentalists who dismiss evolution because, in their words, "you can believe man is the product of a baboon convention if you want to, but I..."  Then typically, when asked if they have ever read a book by an evolutionist, they reply, "I don't want to waste my time!"  Focus 27, please actually join the real world of honest and open seekers and actually read Fontana's book, so that, at last, your pontifcations can assessed against real evidence and you can at last ligitimately claim to have an informed opinion.   Do you dare?

Why is Fontana the authority on this? Maybe Don could start the thread on Fontana's pros and cons since Don seems to be familiar with the book, though I am not sure why a book on the pros and cons of info of the afterlife answers the question as to why some people believe they are more psychic than they appear to others to be.

Exactly, whats wrong with the Atheist Afterlife book? Monroe's Journey's Out Of Body? Gary Schwartz's Afterlife Experiments?

I have read many, many, may I add another, many, afterlife books. This does not make any of them based on factual scientific testing and data done in controlled laboratory environments.

I would be willing to check out the book you are mentioning if I see it at the used book store of course, don't get me wrong. But I am sure any and all afterlife theories within the book I have already thought of myself, and if I have not thought of some of the theories mentioned in said book, it is because the theory is so off the wall that it does not merit any real attention anyways....

As for proof, I do not believe there is any way to effect experiments of non-physical (energetic) phenomena and sciences with physical devices based in physical sciences, so to expect proven results by methods ill-suited and inadequate for the job will never result in success.  And frankly, as for those non-physical phenomena, their effect on and for me have already proven themselves for my benefit in repeatable fashion, so what would be the point?

Focus 27,

None of the books you mention are anything close to comprehensive survey of evidence for the afterlife.  David Fontana's book  and John J. Heaney's book fill that role nicely.  The bottom line is I don't consider it worth debating someone who pontificates against the afterlife, and yet, has not even read a basic book that surveys the various types of evidence for it.
