Do they exist and do they prove the devil and hell are real?

Jdee:

I believe that unfriendly beings exist. I don't like to call them demons because sometimes people have fixed ideas about what a demon is without having a substantial basis for that fixed idea.

I don't believe that there are evil beings who are beyond redemption and end up in hell for all eternity. Rather, some beings, that were initially divine, for whatever reasons, develop in a negative way. Since they are inately divine they can find their way back to the light.

Perhaps in some cases they need help, rather than being labled as beings who shouldn't be provided with assistance. If I was stuck in a frame of mind that caused me to be evil, I sure hope some loving being would help me out.

Regarding Satan, I've looked into this matter a lot and found that the Bible and its history doesn't support the concept of a specific being named "Satan." The name Satan is used in different contradictory ways in the Bible. If you're interested here's what I wrote about it.

The real issue is the question of what can and cannot happen in the realm of personal evil, spiritual warfare, and possession.  The issues that might produce new insight and progress are merely swept under the rug by crude caricatures of "the demonic."  The mataphysical issues are uiltimately unanswerable and should yield to verifiable claims about human experience.  I prefer to speak of dark spiritual forces or energies  rather than Satan or demons and to allow the evidence of experience to determine what is meant by such expressions.  It is important to note, though, that the Bible never explicitly identifies "Satan" as an angel.

I used to minimize how much unfriendly beings exist and their effect on this World, but eventually I had experiences that seemed to make the point that there are some unfriendly beings that try to mess with people.

As far as what their precise nature is, that's hard to say. I believe there is more than one kind.

I've had experienes with this one kind of being that couldn't be described by what people see in horror movies. Rather than seeing this being I felt it in a very definite way. It was large, powerful, intelligent, yet evil.

I don't believe we need to be afraid of  such beings because we always have the right to choose what kind of people we want to be. However, I don't believe we should underestimate how much these unfriendly beings try to fool people. Because some people are overly trusting they get fooled by such beings.

If a person has a weakness or two an unfriendly being might try to take advantage of this weakness.

Thanks, very knowledgeable people on here.

What about 'exorcisms' performed by the church that they claim is proof of Satan etc?

Perhaps some churches deal with people who are troubled by unfriendly beings who are beings other than Satan.

Even if there isn't a being that is named Satan (which is basically a human word for adversary), perhaps there are some head honcho negative  beings.

I personally believe demons are a completely man made subject... look at it this way....

If you go about your life as a materialistic, down to earth, atheist, I guarantee you will never encounter anything in your life you will be able to even remotely blame on "demons"

jdee,

Let me share a couple of family exoeriencees.  (1) My Usncle George was a Pentecostal pastor.  When his little boy (my cousin Eldon, now a psychiatrist) was about 3 years old, George was asked to perform an exorcism at a woman's house.  My aunt Ruth waited with Eldon in the car.  At the moment the exorcism succeeded, little Eldon's eyes rulled up in his head, so that only the whites were visible and he started screaming in terror incessantly.  Of course, he was too young too understand the concept of exorcism.  But whatever entity had just been expelled from that woman was now trying to possess him.  After a long period of fervent prayer, Eldon finally found release.  All he now recalls of this incident is a vision of himself being safely cradled in the arms of Jesus.

So was this entity a demon, malevolent discarnate human, or some other form of negative energy?  I keep an open mind, suffice to say that it was harmful and needed to be exorcised.

(2) When my brother Doug [now a doctor] was 16, he and I were watching Hockey Night in Canada and badgering our poor mother to give us more hotdogs and ice cream.  Suddenly and without warning, Doug went into a trance.  When he came out of it, he told me that God had just given him the name of a young man (IB) who was possessed, would be at a certain coffee house in our city, and needed Doug to perform an exorcism.  Now Doug had never talked like this before or since and had never done an exorcism.  So I didn't take him seriously until he got up and went to the bus stop for what turned out to be a 7 mile February bus ride to the coffee house.  After he left, the shock of what he was about to do dawned on me and I prayed for his protection.  He came back around midnight and shared this story.

When he arrived at the coffee house, there was nothing unusual and he began to feel rather foolish.  Then a stranger walked up to him and strangely asked, "You're here on a special mission, aren't you?"  Now why would a stranger say that?  This remark prompted Doug to stay.  Then there was a commotion outside.  A gang of young toughs were picking fights with people who tried to enter the coffeeshop.  Doug realized that the ringlinger was IB.  So he bravely went outside and calmly told IB: "IB, God has revealed to me that you are possessed and has sent me to do the exorcism."  This remark struck them as hysterically funny and IB retorted, "OK, bring it on!"  At that point, Doug didn't know what to do; so he simply bowed his head and prayerfully touched IB lightly on the head.  At this, IB fell to the ground as if he had been shot and writhed like a serpent for about 2 minutes.  Then IB meekly said, "Thank you."  His gang buddies were so scared they felt the need to convert on the spot, but this was a temporary conversion based on fear.  IB went on to have a successful career as an author and a TV personality.

There were obviously very different paranormal manifestatations in both cases.  I'm grateful for the effective use of exorcism, but I don't presume to identify the nature of the invasive entities, beyond that they were harmful.

As a minister, I'm sometimes asked to perform an exorcism.  I have never agreed to do this, because I always insist that a thorough psychological examinatiion be performed first.  Most alleged possession cases are in my experience misdiagnosed cases of psychological disorder.  In such cases, it can do much harm to convince the psychologically ill person that he has a demon.  In my view, exorcism must be a tool of last resort when all other alternatives have been ruled out.

By tghe way, the New Testament acknowledges the existence of malevolent or mischievous elemental spirits as well as demons.

Yes, they exist but there is no hell like bible says. There are subdimensions where they live - demons, devils, werewolfs etc...
These creaters are just robots made by beings called evil on Earth.
But everything has got the explanation so don't judge them even when You are in pain.
Everything is created by God even those Beings and everything serve of higher target called the spiritual development.

Living in forgiveness is the liberation.
And try to stop think and talk about them becase You can unnecessaily call them. That is not nice.

Look above are wonderfull energies for example diamond angels who are shining like collected, like rainbow.
When angel moves his/her wings You can hear a slightly ringing of little bells. When angel speaks your thoughts are beatiful.
When she/he touch you then you can feel big warm in heart.

I encountered what I will call a 'neg.' I moved into an apartment he was attached to. He had passed during the late 1960's as a hippie type who loathed police/military. I was the latter. He tried to scare me out several times in dramatic fashion over a period of months. His last attempt was to attack me out of body. When he rushed me it felt like I had put all ten fingers into an electrical socket. I resisted. He lost (not bragging). He was gone after that. I can say from direct personal experience that there are entities that some would label as 'demonic.' Beyond that I can't say.

There are some crappy people out there but I don't think there are any demons other than those of your own making. I'm actually sure of this for myself anyway. Never saw a demon, Never ran into Jesus except in the flesh and I think out of body makes no real sense. You are not in your body. You are in God's Dream and when you realize it your personal angels and demons make peace with one another and you have finally got it. Just my take.

Thanks again.

What about near death experiences where people see hell? There was a devout Catholic called Zambrano who was dead for 23 hours and seen hell.

I say there is only here and what lies in between during sleep. People see and say a lot of things but this is where Heaven is and Earth and Hell is a state of mind. You can be in Heaven here or hell or somewhere in between. Most of us are in between it seems like, but maybe all of you are already in Heaven and you're just playing me...but the only demons or angels anyone sees are their own imagination because that is all there is and it is quite stunning when you have it under control.

On further thought may I add a few things?

The very fact that you can post on this board using the word 'demon' and assume your audience understands your term is telling. This board is in a Western country. It's populated mostly by people in the West. So when you use vocabulary from the largest religious influence in the West, Christianity, we understand you. And therein lies the problem.

In the business we're in we have to borrow vocabulary from belief systems to express ourselves. Nothing new there. Christianity had to borrow neoplatonic thought categories to express itself. But when we so borrow we bring in unintended baggage that doesn't help us when we use that vocab in a new context. The word 'demon' has baggage that is limiting to us in our afterlife activities.

In the example I gave in my post above, the entity was simply a person without a body, albeit one with dramatic abilities, not one of Satan's minions out to corrupt the human race in a war against God. Yet had I had the same experiences fifteen hundred years ago I probably would have labeled him a demon, made the usual assumptions, and ran for a priest.

He is a person trapped in a way of perception and understanding. No different than in the body. He tried to scare me. When that didn't work he tried to kick my butt, and lost. Just like things happen in the physical. If anything it demonstrates his humanity. The difference is I couldn't call the cops on him first.

For all I know he could be part of my 'disk.' Ultimately he is, regardless.

We often don't have a choice but to borrow vocabulary. But don't be surprised when the excess baggage gets in the way of communicating.
