This sentence was very weird to me.  Maybe one too many "are"s?  LOL.  Perhaps you can clarify.

Plain and simply, this is why affirmations are important:

To affirm something is to state your intent as fact.  You state it to yourself, you state it to the universe, you state it to God.  This sets the creative universal energies in motion to manifest this intent.  It is a declaration of power, divinity, and truth.

Many keep their affirmations on a subconscious level or in there unconscious thoughts, thinking the same unproductive untruths daily as if on autopilot, and as a result manifest that which they do not want, failing to see the true connection between their mental activity and their outer circumstances and creations.  By bringing these affirmations to the conscious level, one brings the power of creation into their conscious control.  Eventually these conscious affirmations replace the old negative affirmations on the subconscious level, and with the new program comes a new reality.

Consider the below affirmation that Dude wrote.

"I am surrounded by benevolent spirit guides of the highest vibration of love and light who assist me in all ways to evolve to higher states of consciousness"

Whether or not this is true isn't based on making an affirmation.  The availability of such guides is more a matter of how much a person applies himself and makes himself available for service that isn't about sitting at the front of audience, having fans and earning money. Friendly guides don't have to show up just because we affirm that they are there.

I figure there are some people who said an affirmation that served the purpose of allowing them to channel a positive being, and then they ended up channeling a deceptive being. Perhaps there are occasions when benevolent beings hope that we will use our discrimination.

What if benevolent beings don't believe it would be purposeful to have a particular person be their voice piece for numerous people? Perhaps they don't believe it would be appropriate for a person to charge people $200.00 an hour for words that come from benevolent beings. (I chose $200.00 because this is what Paul Selig charges.) If a person is stubborn about it and continues to try to channel despite the above factors, perhaps he might end up channeling somebody other than a benevolent being. Perhaps benevolent beings allow overly eager and nondicriminating people to channel deceptive beings so they'll unfortunately learn the hard way. Read Joe Fischer's "Siren Calls of Hungry Ghosts" to see how often people are deceived by the beings they channel.

If benevolent guides are always there, then an affirmation isn't needed.

Whatever the case, I wouldn't play a tape that makes the kind of affirmation being discussed because I believe there is much more to being a good match for a benevolent spirit guide than repeating an affirmation. I say this after considering the numerous reasons for which I have been able to connect with benevolent spirit beings.

There are occasions when affirmations are "a part" of a person manifesting intent.

Now, keeping the above in mind..

And so what does it take to apply oneself and make themselves available for service?  Is it not by aligning oneself to the vibration of reception and service, first through one's thoughts, which then lead to action?  Yes indeed.  Affirmations are the thoughts that will lead to this very alignment and fulfillment.

There are some who are open to help from higher powers, and others who shut the doors to it due to a continuous stream of negative affirmations via their thoughts and subconscious programming.  Essentially any thought that one entertains and believes is true is an affirmation.  So what this affirmation will do is align oneself to the vibration in which this higher assistance is accepted and fully manifested.  You may be forgetting that the thoughts you think about your receptiveness to higher sources are in fact affirmations.  You may think, "I have contact with my guides and I don't need affirmations to have it," and so this is your affirmation.  Your statement of truth.  Of course as it seems, you obviously do not need to have an understanding of affirmations to use them.   Cheesy

I believe it is important to remember that it is possible to have thoughts without truly understanding what they mean, or without being defined by them in some way.

One of the reasons I was able to make contact is because I've voluteered my self for a certain kind of spirit work. My volunteering was based on an understanding of what is needed, not on repeating thoughts that have no depth. Because I have the understanding I have, there in no need to repeat thoughts that can seem to be related, even if they lack depth.

The fact of how one person can tell another that he (or she) loves this other person without meaning it, shows how shallow words can be.

I agree that we need to negate limiting beliefs, but repeating the opposite won't do the trick.

A lady who was a member of the guru-based group I used to belong to comes to mind. She used to tell people how much she loves the guru we saw.  She seemed assertive and this was for a good reason. She had doubts about the guru that she didn't want to acknowledge so she affirmed the opposite. Eventually she allowed herself to see how she really felt about the guru and left him.

Well, I've pretty much said all I care to say about the subject.  I'll make a final post.  If you don't want to use affirmations to your advantage, that is your choice.  You can apply circumstances where one does not use them correctly and say that they do not work, but this does not change the fact that they have worked for myself and countless others.  I do not want to prove to you that they work so much as I want to make sure you do not dissuade anyone from using these effective tools that have improved the lives of so many.

Perhaps you do not realize that beliefs are simply thought patterns that have become adopted by an individual as truth.  But false beliefs are not created out of an understanding of truth, and so this alone proves that an deep understanding is not necessary for the creation and/or eradication of a belief system, so as you have been saying that the understanding is what is most important, we can see that this is not the case.  Understanding is certainly helpful, but obviously it is the thoughts that contain the power.  The understanding and/or lack thereof is what directs the thoughts to create.  We are basically brainwashed into many of our belief systems from a young age without any real understanding of any of it.  We are told what to think and this shapes our belief system.  This proves just how powerful the thoughts are, even when they are not backed by anything substantial.  And this is why affirmations work even when they oppose what one may believe to be true.

Here are some excellent articles which explain why and how affirmations work.  And yes, there is even hard science to back it up.  These are for our audience, Recoverer, as I don't expect you will change your way of thinking.  But, that is fine.  Smiley

I did not have time to proof read my post and yes there are too many are's in there.

It should read, "affirmations can help, but only as long as the different levels OF you are actually supporting same in other ways."

Basically, i agree with both you and Albert here.  I've used affirmations, i know they can help, and they have helped me, but to some extent they are just another prop.

I find most of my growth occurs spontaneously, often in facing daily challenges, stresses, and choosing constructively in such situations.  Particularly often in emotional tests with my partner, jobs, and health (or lack thereof) experiences.

I use to be really into crystals and gemstones, as well, to a lesser extent affirmations, and while they are apples and oranges in comparison, they are still both props and both can definitely help, again if there is the real inner desire and support on the various levels of self supporting.

Sometimes affirmations can be unhelpful or rather, just a waste of time and energy.

For an example, one might think that such an affirmation like, "my body is strong, healthy and completely balanced" might be a great one.  Perhaps they are already fairly healthy, but want more health etc.

Yet, it could be that that same person's higher self, decides that what might facilitate the most spiritual growth for their personality self is to experience a debilitating illness of some kind.  In such a case, isn't the soon to be sick person kind of wasting their time and energy when saying such affirmations, when in 4 months their body will be come majority imbalanced for spiritual growth purposes?

Sometimes there is a lack of humility in more specific affirmations--sometimes these would be more constructive if they were turned into prayers such as, "not my will be done, but the will of the Creative forces."  or, "lead me Creative forces, show me the way." or "Please bring to my conscious awareness that which would be most spiritually helpful for me and my influence on the Whole to become aware of."

This shows awareness and humility that the personality self doesn't necessarily know what's best for itself and is willing to be led by sources more intune than the personality level (these can be within or without, in a sense).

I find more open ended and spiritually oriented affirmations tend to be more universally helpful.  For example, often when i meditate, i say something to myself like, "I deeply desire and ask to communicate with and attune to only the most spiritually helpful, loving, aware consciousnesses.  I deeply desire and ask for their help, direction and guidance."

This helps me to connect to these, but what helps even more in the experience and remembering of love.  I use the two in combination.  This, i know, assures that i will get guidance from only that level.

It's possible that i could state such an affirmation, but then later have some unloving thoughts and feelings and with not attuning to PUL, i could tune more into less constructive and aware levels even though i stated the affirmation before.  Stating such an affirmation should not lull me into a false sense of security or belief of, "i can't be influenced by unhelpful sources", when if i did have negative, limiting thoughts or feelings, it certainly can tune me into non PUL attuned sources and levels quite quickly, automatically,  and unconsciously on my part.   It would be helpful to still keep a sense of discrimination, testing, and feeling out.

It's all about balance Vincent.  Too much focus on, and power given to, affirmations can lead to the lazy man's approach to spiritual growth.  There are no short cuts in spiritual growth, but there are helpful props and tools which can facilitate awareness some.  It's what you do and choose with the awareness that really matters and determines the actual growth.

Absolutely.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not sitting around stating affirmations all day.  LOL.  But I do utilize them and appreciate their value as the tools that they are.  In reality, affirmations are basically nothing more(or should I say, nothing less) than the constructive use of our thoughts.  Pretty powerful stuff when used properly.

A moment ago I stated the affirmation, "My chakras are in perfect health and alignment."  Instantly I became aware of the energy flowing through them, and experienced state of great well being and peace inside that flowed with the energy through my circuit.  Just from one affirmation.  One thought.  What you focus your attention on, you bring to yourself/create.

Affirmative. Glad to read some pretty darn good and balanced posts on the subject.

Dude,
"What you focus your attention on, you bring to yourself/create."

The attention is focused on the forum and more words. You're welcome all.

Experiences on this big rock basically follow the same flow as the basic ones the beings have in the place monroe dubbed as home. The fluffsters focus on sound and vision, both which are repeating in loops.  Here there are way more varied experiences available, they do indeed repeat until mastered, and we're eased into the complexity by the living concept of being a child. The result of all these repeating experiences is that each step walked around the various concepts we're here to gain knowledge about act as affirmations and sparks of hope - mastering that which at one time may have been deemed impossible, figuring out more than dreamt possible even just one year ago - that we're getting there, wherever and whenever that is.

Just to show how open minded I am, I came up with an affirmation for myself.

"I will not believe in affirmations."

"I will not believe in affirmations."

"I will not believe in affirmations."

If affirmations help a person set intent, fine.  I figure that not all people use them in a robotic way. But I believe Justin does. Grin

Looks like I haven't quite had enough yet  Smiley

Quote:

It is the exact same thing.  You are not going to program yourself for a specific purpose if you do not have the intent on making that purpose manifest.  Affirmations are statements of intent.  It is possible to make an affirmation with varying degrees of intent, but just the fact that the affirmation was made shows some degree of intent.

Quote:
Maybe it was a matter of your higher self/spirit guidance becoming aware of your intent when you made an affirmation, and they responded accordingly.

There is no difference, and no need to separate.  When you place intent, what you do is you think a specific thought that you intend to manifest.  In other words, you state an affirmation.  You affirm to yourself in some way, shape, or form that your intent is to be carried out.  It is the same thing.  So yes, my higher self became aware of the intent of my affirmation.  The intent and the affirmation are two interconnected aspects of the process of creation.  You cannot set intent without some kind of mental activity, without making the decision to do so, that I am aware of.  Even the use of pure feelings to place an intent requires the mental activity of affirming that the feeling will bring about the desired result.  Thoughts do not always need to be worded out, this is true, but then neither do affirmations.

Quote:
There have been occassions when I showed the intent to get rid of a blockage and without making an affirmation received help.

No one has said that the conscious practice of worded affirmations is crucial to receiving guidance and assistance from higher powers, and yet since to call upon such guidance and place the intent to receive it requires some form of thought, it is most likely the case that you did make an affirmation to receive it, whether it was a silent one, or even a nonverbal one.

You are being awfully difficult here Senior Recoverbert!  You seem to be trying to avoid the unavoidable outcome of this thread, which is that affirmations in one way or another are the foundation of our lives.  This is obvious when one realizes that our thoughts are affirmations that we silently and constantly make, that our belief systems are actually repeated affirmations that we have convinced ourselves are true, and that what we experience is dictated by what we think and believe.

So you say that affirmations(in the traditional sense, being statements that are repeated over and over again)are not needed to produce a desired experience or result, and I say(and I believe have in one way or another proved) that affirmations are much deeper then the shallow phrases you have defined them as.  Kiss

The power of magic is often thought of as being unreal.  Quite the opposite is true, and there are and have been mages, shamans, and healers throughout history for very good reasons.

Intent tied to belief causes manifestation of the result into our reality.  The spoken word, tied into intent and belief is a most potent Talisman.  It moves with breath or prana (as the Hindus called it), and is grounded to our physical bodies with the vibration of our vocal cords.

Dave-MBS, a most enlightened soul who is in the afterlife now, would talk on this very forum about binding your intent, to words, and to an object in the physical world.   By doing so, he would say you have created a "three-legged" spell.  So you state an intent (affirmation), you believe it, and feel the belief while relaxed, and then ground it to the real world through an action (drinking a vial of liquid, or writing down the affirmation and then committing it to fire/flame)

Very powerful, when you impress your subconscious connection to the universe with these things.  You focus your intent in a strong way.

So yeah, affirmations are useful, powerful, not robotic (unless you allow them to be), and one more tool to express yourself.  When tied to meditation, belief and right action, they are a useful tool at that.

Matthew

Doc seems to be pointing in the direction of doing more than just repeating a thought.

Consider how I overcame the fear of unfriendly spirits. Much more was involved than I wrote in my book "A Night in Heaven." I would have these very intense experiences with actual unfriendly beings, and afterwards   "acknowledge"  or should I say   "affirm" to myself how everything worked out fine.

It was useful to acknowledge/affirm in such a way. But if such acknowledgment/affirmation wasn't backed by experience, I don't believe it would've worked. The experience itself means so much more than mere words.

I understand that Dude has it mind to back up his affirmations with more than the words he says; nevertheless, I've taken the path on this thread I took, partly because I've known of cases when people used affirmations in an ineffective way. Some of these people used affirmations that they received from their cult leaders. They affirmed things that didn't have any actual value.

To tell you the truth I don't like how this conversation worked out because in order to state how affirmations have their limitations I might've understated how some people have used them with success.

Speaking on a thread and speaking in person doesn't quite work out the same way. Justin and I have spoken to each other and we believe that sometimes we have gotten too pushy on threads. This is quite contrary to how it is when we speak to each other. If you spoke to Justin you would see that he is "so" not pushy. Quite the opposite.

I affirm, "I will do better with internet discussions in the future." Wink Wish me luck.

Dude,

it would be interesting to know if the effect of listening to taped affirmations would vary depending on whether oneself is the speaker or someone else is the speaker. Have you any findings regarding that?

Spooky

I have a related query which I asked Robert Bruce recently, as he seems to have much knowledge and experience on the subject(he still hasn't gotten back to me yet), which is, would it be more effective to use "you," or "I" for the recorded affirmations.  As in, "you experience love every moment," or "I experience love every moment."  Perhaps some people take commands better than they listen to themselves, in which case "you" may be more effective, if the speaker is someone else that is.

But I mostly feel that it would be most effective overall to have your own voice and using the "I" form of the affirmations.  Maybe if it is another speaker and they are saying "I this" and "I that," the listener will not feel as if the statements are truly directed at themselves.

Others I have asked on similar forums believe using "I" is more effective in general.  Believe it or not, this topic was not lead into a discussion on the validity of affirmations on other forums Roll Eyes, but instead went in the direction it was intended to and input was able to be given regarding the specific task at hand by those who have experience.   A good indication of the effectiveness of the affirmation is how it makes you feel as you are repeating it or as it is being repeated to you.  I find that the most effective affirmations arouse feelings of truth and joy in me.
