Atheism and evolution.
Jul 20th, 2011 at 3:37am

This is something that always worries me, that there is no god or afterlife and that we humans are only a fluke of evolution, similar to an ant or goat.

Many people here seem to have positive experiences and have a strong belief in an afterlife. Can I have some help here, Thanks.

The feelings you have are what has brought many of us here to Bruce Moen's site and there are many other sites on the internet. The fear is something to embrace, really, as it will prompt you to explore the evidence for the afterlife. I would suggest immersing yourself in afterlife evidence for about six months and not reading the materialist arguments for awhile. After the six months goes by and you have given yourself a working arsenal of information to help you read those materialist arguments with a greater sense of what knowledge is available.

This is something only you can do for yourself. No one else will ever be able to convince you completely of an afterlife because it is going to be a subjective experience. You could try reading "The Holographic Universe" by Michael Talbot. Its a pretty easy read and it draws on a lot evidence that is glossed over by the refuters of afterlife existence. Also Chris Carter's book which I often recommend is another one: http://www.amazon.com/Science-Near-Death-Experience-Consciousness-Survives/dp/15.... And perhaps after that you might enjoy reading My Big TOE by Thomas Campbell. I'm suggesting these assuming that you have already read Bruce Moen's books which are excellent on this subject but do require an acceptance of imagination and consciousness as being fundamental.

Even if an afterlife is 'only' a dream, what a beautiful 'dream' it can be, as evidenced by so many accounts by people who have had 'near death' experiences. Because these people have been what people consider 'dead' and have reawakened to tell the tale, we know that lots of different things 'happen' to people 'during' and 'after' a death experience. What is often experienced are feelings of great calm, peace, and love. Meetings with other humans, pets, experiences of great beauty, great learning, etc. occurs.

For example, what is 'only' an ant or a goat to you -- they are universes all to themselves. In an afterlife, anything can happen.

But what you need to know is that your thoughts can direct your experience -- or, if not direct, can influence your experience.

How curious are you? Or do you merely want to find peace? Experiences of all kinds await after 'death'. I only hope I am able to experience this too, as others have.

In the meantime, our lives are interesting, and our dream life has a lot to tell us about the possibilities after life. How fantastic are our dreams?

We are full of imagination, and we have a natural sense of beauty and order. There is every reason to believe this continues after our physical lives here appear to end.

Hi jdee,

Atheism is another belief system, it is no matter what they say about it being a lack of belief in any deities. It's still a belief system as it requires them to believe that certain evidence is true, they don't know this for sure.

Evolution, I believe is true to some extent, an example is I learn new things everyday so I'm evolving in that sense, it's far more complicated but you should get the idea. As for the theory of how we came to be well, that requires people to believe what the scientists say is evidence for this. Again we don't actually know this to be true for sure.

You should be able to tell from my posts that I don't like being told what to do, think, believe. The government tries to do this and fails terribly, i.e. Man made Global Warming, Swine and bird flu epidemics, and the war on speeding drivers etc. It's all too convenient for them as they do very well out of those things  Wink.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist by the way.

I'm not religious as this would require me to do the same thing, taking someone elses word for it. I can't do that.

I don't take peoples advice on this site as gospel either, it's advice you either take it or leave it, agree or disagree.

There are a lot of sheep on this earth and I don't mean the ones that the Welsh are apparently fond of. I mean people who are too afraid to think completely by themselves, it sounds ridiculous but you have to question EVERYTHING, without paranoia of course.

Fear can control your life if you let it, other people use it to do this, the government, the "bullies" that you went to school with, your boss at work. Lose the fear and the fear loses control as do the people that use it, you'll see them for what they really are, no different than you or me. My point is you'll see right through the so called "facts of life" and at least come to the conclusion that it is unknown as of yet.

As for the rest, you need to have your own experiences, nothing can beat that.

Obviously this is my opinion but it works for me perfectly.

P.S, sorry I didn't reply to your last thread, I have been busy with work so I didn't get time. As you're from Glasgow, are you a Rangers or Celtic fan?

Andy

Hey jdee,

You've started several threads on basically the same topic - your fear that there is no afterlife. And even though you keep saying all replies have helped, it doesn't seem like you feel any different about this. If we knew what exactly it is you're looking for, we might be able to help you better than this.

Positive experiences come from appreciating who- or whatever comes our way.
There seems to be a lot of stuff happening around you; the thing is if you don't believe it's there, then it won't be there for you; it's your choice.

take care,
Vagabound

Just to speed things up a little; Andy, you're single, right? Somebody here on this board - and I'm not gonna mention any names - cares about your opinion much more than about anyone else's. You may wanna PM her.

Jdee,

The reason I asked about the team you support is because by brother in law is a Celtic fan, he is from Dunoon originally and his family still live there.

You mentioned that you like boxing, I hope that you have seen the Rocky films, if not you should. They are in my opinion the most motivational films ever, they have helped get me up and running again on many occasions  Cheesy. They certainly don't make films like they used to, that's for sure.

And the best theme song ever too!

If anything it should help take your mind off this afterlife nonsense lol.

Jdee,

I forgot to say, life is hard, I know this from a LOT of experiences. I was never a man of faith I didn't understand what faith was until a few months ago. I now know what it is and I haven't been taught this by anybody, the best way I can explain it is, it is found within and I found mine at the least likely time that anyone could. A time where really we should either lose faith or be certain that we will never find it.

I hope this makes sense. Having said that, it probably won't it wouldn't have done to me before.

The Rocky films are brilliant, I have every one of them, I also box 3 nights a week and thai box 1 night a week. If I get my stupid head cleared I hope to fight in 2012.

As you see, I am a normal boy who just needs some stupid problems cleared up, I am fed up with it but I just need reassurance there is an afterlife, I know atheism is wrong, but I cant get the doubt out of my mind, I also want to believe my gran about seing my grandad but again the doubt creeps in

Jdee,

Atheism isn't wrong, it's just another belief that's all. They don't know any more than the scientists tell them, just like people who go to church, if they listen to all of what their preacher tells them then they are just taking someone else's word for it rather than finding out for themselves. It's absolutely fine if that's how they feel comfortable living that way. I don't which is why I'm the way I am.

When I first started out as a mechanic a lot of people training me said I didn't listen, I was listening but I can't do something in the way someone else does, it's not possible, I have to find my own way. I was there for 6 years and since leaving I have learned more about cars than I did while I was there because I have taught myself from my own abilities, not someone else's. You might not work this way as not everybody is the same, but my point is you do whatever makes you happy, some people might like having their hand held through things, fair play to them I say  Wink.

As for your nans experience, you can't really doubt or believe it as you didn't experience it. I've experienced very similar stuff to what you said your nan did, which tbh could be put down to hallucinations but what about the things that have been physically moved, one right in front of me. Yeah it could have fell off on it's own but just happened to at the moment it was in my sight for a split second. It is also something my son would have done while he was here. It's also worth mentioning that my 2 cats were equally as shocked as I was if not more, as far as I know they don't have any idea how this world works.

The question is, do we?

Now I've had a hard time believing this myself which will explain why I have had the strong experiences that I have had with my son. It's clear now that without them I either would have topped myself or would have become a complete mess, neither of which would be any use for me, the people I care for, or my second son who will be here in 6 weeks.

It was necessary for me to move forward, which I have and am doing at 140mph +. I've started a new job, I took a year off to look after my son, it's the best paid job I've ever had and is more than needed.

I speak nothing but the truth, there will be people who have and will doubt my experiences, so what? They weren't there to see them and they also don't know all of the circumstances like I do. They will also claim that there will be "logical" explanations for all of them, REALLY? Please let me know about them, so I can see what I'm missing  Roll Eyes.

Having an opinion on something you haven't seen or experienced is by no way shape or form logical, no matter which way you look at it. The only option they have is to claim I'm making this up, which I can promise that I'm not. There are too many variables for any other options, that is a cold hard fact there  Wink.

Jdee, you have something to look forward to with the fight in 2012, use that as something to focus your efforts on, I don't claim to know what your granddad wants but I'm sure he wouldn't want you to be like this, he will want you to move forward like I am.

Andy

Cheers again, I believe what you tell me as always, however I have a hard time accepting things are real, I dont really know why maybe I need to experience it myself.

I have a greater belief in God and an afterlife than not but I have those doubts that take over my mind, mainly due to atheist scientists who are so much more intelligent than I will ever be.

Best of luck with the birth of your new son

Cheers

Greetings jdee190.

I think I know why some super intelligent scientists are atheist. They are not capable of opening their third eye:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_eye

The third eye is what our consciousness uses to gain access to the planes beyond the physical. The pineal gland acts like a doorway for the third eye to function through.

I wouldn't worry about what super intelligent people say because in many cases their hyperactive left brain thinking probably shuts down the third eye. A balance between left brain and right brain is needed in order for the third eye to successfully open.

I doubt that the atheist scientists ever actually tried meditation because they reasoned away the concept as being illogical and a waste of their precious brain's time.

Jdee, doubt is normal. I have doubts from time to time about everything,  normal everyday things so obviously the afterlife is no exception. In my opinion though from my own perception, doubt is the stupid part of my mind having it's say, I listen to it then I'm able to think about it and see how wrong it is. At the end of the day it's there for a reason, without it we wouldn't be able to do anything right, we wouldn't be able to solve problems, choose who we want as friends or not or make any decisions.

Never ignore them though, that's not good from my experience, sometimes they can be right, we will never know if we don't question them.

"scientists who are so much more intelligent than I will ever be."

The problem with this is you don't know this as you only see their public persona. I bet behind closed doors they are just like the rest of us maybe worse, who knows?

It's the same as celebrities, people only see what they read in the news or in magazines, there's a lot more that goes on than that.

Having said that, I've still made mistakes and I still will make them, I'm not perfect and I admit it but I don't have the worry of the media finding out about it and finishing my career, like the people I just mentioned.

Jdee,

I forgot to ask, What do your family think of what happened to your nan when she saw your granddad?
