Seraphis1,
I'm glad to see you realized that you don't need to starve yourself to have OBEs.
Some advice I can give you is that you're making it way more difficult than it is.
First, have an intention. Second, learn to simply pay attention to your breathing. Breathe naturally and comfortably, but just pay attention to it as you mentally and physically relax. You can be sitting or lying, doesn't matter. Once you begin feeling a shift in relaxation (which begins to happen naturally the moment we close our eyes), then remind yourself of your intention, and then let it go. Third, pay attention to what comes next in your awareness. It will be a direct response to your intention.
Next, allow yourself to just feel, rather than to be thinking, judging, and analyzing. When I read your posts, this is where I can see you make things too complicated. I also see that you seem to have expectations of what an OBE should be like. You may be basing too much expectation on the experiences of your mentors. Instead of having expectations, just go along with whatever experience YOU have, just allow yourself to FEEL and BE without judgement.
The things that are holding you back are funny things. They are nearly impossible to recognize and grab ahold of. So, instead of trying to overcome what's holding you back, just focus on letting go of them and acting as if they aren't even there.
There's a lot to be said for beginner's luck. It's what happens because you go into something not having a clue of what to expect and just going along for the ride. No judgements, no analyzing. Nothing in the back of your mind telling you there are obsticles.
One last bit of advice, there are many kinds of OBEs, not just the classic one that you're searching for. Once you open up to that idea, you'll likely blow open your perception and have a lot more experiences happening to you.
