Hi Dr,
the first thing I would say is that there is no such thing as the
perfect scientific experiment- partly because the skeptic can always say in retrospect ' ah, but if only you'd have thought of....' ! I would suggest rather than thinking in a simplistic binary true/false way instead adopt the approach of an open-minded detective.
In the case of Prof Schwartz you need to look carefully at his experiments, the critique of his experiments and his responce to that criticism. You can follow the debate online at :
http://www.enformy.com/Gary-reHymanReview.htm and come to your own conclusions.
Science progresses by people performing experiments/studies which are then peer reviewed. From that process modified further experiments are then undertaken and so on... Criticisms made of Schwartz's work have been taken on board at work undertaken at the Windbridge Institute (
www.windbridge.org) resulting in quintuple-blinding (!) with positive resuts still coming through. Of course one thing which is nearly impossible to establish is whether mediums are really contacting discarnates or tapping into 'super-psi' : so current research is looking at this by examining mediums' experiences of the process.
