Hi Bruce-

Just wondering if you've given any further thought to possibly establishing Nimbus.

A non-public company that could give you the financial freedom to develop the ACD via the sale of stock shares was a great idea, hope you can resurrect it.

Any further communications with Ed Carter?

PS-

Bruce, I see where medical science is beginning to figure out how to translate thoughts into actions, via computers.

Would this breakthrough possibly help in terms of perfecting your afterlife communication device?

Since those in the afterlife communicate via thoughts, some sort of device would be needed to turn those thoughts into voice recognition so that those of us on the earth phone would be able to hear.

I'm not sure, however, how our thoughts would be transmitted via the phone to those in the afterlife.

In any case it looks like there are promising developments that may enable your system to work.

Roger and Bruce,

I guess Nimbus was a hot topic before I joined the site.  I imagine we might be able to learn as much from our noble failures as from our achievements.  So I'd like to post 3 questions:

(1) Who was Ed Carter and what was his relationship
      with Bruce?
(2) Who took the initiative for Project Nimbus--Ed or
      Bruce?
(3) I sense that Nimbus has proven unworkable.  But
is it at least possible, using Bruce's methods, to
contact Ed and discuss our options?  Is it possible
to have a conversation with Ed about this project?
Or is Ed now in a plane inaccessible to the
      technique of Focused Imagination?

Don-

Sorry, I should have posted some background on this subject.  It goes back many years.  Most of the people on the board today would not be aware of it.

I'll try to answer your questions, but I'm sure Bruce will fill in where I'm either wrong or don't know the entire story.

(1) Ed Carter was an engineer friend of Bruce's.  After he died, Bruce stayed in touch with him and was getting technical assistance from Ed as to how to design and build a communication system that would allow us to have conversations with people in the afterlife.

Bruce compared the system to regular telephones that we use every day.  He envisioned that they could be mass produced for approximately $50 and be widely available at stores like Walmart and Radio Shack.

Bruce was very excited at this prospect.  Dead people could call us, and we could call them, just like we would call our neighbor across the street.

As time went on, however, Bruce's main problem was that he was so busy with his workshops and just the everyday need that we all have to pay bills, etc etc. that he just didn't have the time needed to devote to this project.  Therefore, development of the phone system slowed.

So, as a way of freeing himself up from the tasks necessary to earn a living and allow him to devote full time to the phone project, he talked about setting up a company, to be called Nimbus.  Shares of stock would be offered to investors, and the money generated would then allow Bruce the financial freedom to put all of his time, working with Ed (now deceased), in a joint effort to get the phone system up and running.

Bruce made it clear that this was a highly speculative venture, and if successful the investors would reap a fantastic profit.  If not, it was a risk they would need to take.  Bruce made it clear that no guarantees could be made.

The company (Nimbus) never got off the ground.  Bruce can correct me here, but I'm guessing not enough investors were attracted to the venture.

Nevertheless, Bruce vowed to never give up working on the project with Ed.

From time to time Bruce would update us as to his progress.  He did encounter various difficulties, but with Ed's technical assistance, he thought he could eventually overcome them.

(2)  I think it was Bruce who took the initiative, but not sure.

(3)  I don't know the status of Bruce's relationship with Ed.  Bruce hasn't mentioned anything about it in several years.

I'm sure Bruce will fill us in on this project.  Since it's been a long time since Ed died, maybe other engineers who have passed over can help out in the event Ed has moved on to a higher, inaccessible dimension.

Let's all hope Bruce will give us an optimistic report, since the ability to call our dead friends and loved ones, and for them to call us, would no doubt be the most fantastic invention in the entire history of mankind.

Personally I have to give Bruce a tremendous amount of respect for even attempting to perfect this invention.  Just think, for example, how organized religion would react once we all found out that you don't have to be a Catholic or Muslim or Buddhist to survive death.  The Jehovah Witnesses would have a mass nervous breakdown!

I'll be anxiously awaiting Bruce's reply!  Let's all hope he has good news to share with us.

Rondele,

Nimbus was incorporated some years ago and helped fund early development work on the device.  For a long time now it has been self funded as income permits.  At this point it doesn't take much money, it mostly takes time.  The first year was spent in Virginia working with friend and fellow engineer, Dave Wallis.  After Dave died he continues to work on the project from where he is now.  Ed Carter and several others are now a sort of team on their side assisting us on this side.

With all the moving and settling and moving and resettling it had been very slow progress since we left Colorado for Puerto Rico back in 2007.

Now that we are settled in Florida I have set up the lab again and recently completed the first version of a new kind of prototype.  Regularly scheduled listening sessions with this prototype are the next step along with various modifications from time to time to test new concepts.

There has been some small success with previous prototypes but nothing approaching clear, two way conversation that is the goal of the project.  But, I keep working and trying different approaches and hoping for that break through.

I'd be very interested, but I wonder how the communication would work amongst all planes of the afterlife, since there are different realms from heavens to hells, thought to be related to different thought.

From my point of view consciousness is thought, and I'm not quite sure how to get a mechanical machine to "tune in" to thought.  Clearly our consciousness attaches to our brain/body in the physical.  Any communication device would need to take sounds in the physical world, (raw white noise, etc.) and process them in a way that would be easy for a discarnate entity to manipulate.  This is the recipe for EVP with white noise/tape recorders.  That with intent, the spirit can use the various frequencies in white noise to manipulate sound on earth and come out with a "voice."

The two way theory of all this intrigues me as well.  Some say that it is much easier for a discarnate spirit to hear our words and thoughts with ease than vice versa.  So would a two way device even be needed?  We may be able to simply ask a question in our minds and out of thin air, and then have the disembodied consciousness manipulate the sound on our white noise machine to give an answer.

I do think any device would work best for the recently deceased, and that deception and interaction with fakers might be an issue to contend with too.

Doc-

Of course I don't know any of the technicalities involved, but yes, the device would need to somehow turn thoughts of dead people into voices.  And since practically the whole civilized world would want one of these phones, how would the thoughts of the dead be segregated and directed to the right  phone here on earth?

And there seems to be a huge logistical problem.  Since there are hundreds of millions (billions) of dead folks, how would my phone call to call Aunt Gladys be placed?  Who or what would inform her that I'm calling?

Would there be an Information Operator who would summon deceased people?

The whole prospect is staggering.

Perhaps the other side will set things up so only spirits within a certain realm can use the device that exists on the other side. If something such as a library can be set up, then perhaps a communications site can be set up. I wouldn't underestimate what beings at higher levels can control.

Did Satan really visit God in heaven as the book of Job suggests, or was that story only symbolic?

From my understanding of things, in the realm of spirit or thought, all one needs to do is to think of someone, bring them into focus, and they are summoned (unless of course they don't want to talk to you).  So, the communication device would work in a similar way, with the thought of the earthly incarnated human being summoning his/her loved one, then turning the device on.

Imitation and deception would be difficult to control or prevent, in these instances.  The device, if it worked could be groundbreaking.  But several facts may come into play; namely -

1.  The newly deceased may have no more information about the afterlife than they did while alive, so talking with them may be spinning the wheels (other than the fact that it would confirm that we all continue after death).

2.  There may be some heavenly rules of what can and can not be communicated, that most deceased people/spirits simply won't break.

Matthew-

Yes there may be heavenly rules covering communication, but on the other hand Bruce says that there is a whole team in the afterlife helping on the phone project.

You would think that the team would be aware of any such rules.

Rondelle:

Not if a device is needed on the other side. It's hard to say what's possible. If energy can be used to create this physical World and astral realms, then perhaps it can be used to create a device that only authorized spirit beings can use.

Perhaps the reason it hasn't come into PE is the difference between "need" and "want". I see no "need" of any such device. Wouldnt direct communication open the possibility for those living a PE lifetime to learn of the reason they are re-experiencing the phyical and in so doing perhaps lessening the lession? Why the need for phyical communication? To say "I love you"? Or "I miss you"? Couldn't the continued communication and attachment of emotion that could be the effect of such a device perhaps cause those already crossed over to become attached more firmly to the phyical and in so reduce the possibility for them moving on further spiritually? And I was wondering if the proposed device would be for contact with just Bob's "Park" or any area of the afterlife? I personally just don't see the need. We already have the ability to make contact..why must we bring the contact we make back into the phyical. Using our ears and a phone like object? Why would anyone over "there" want to use a phone? Perhaps a non phyical energy that deciphers NVC is more in-line with what is needed.

Hawkeye-

You make some good points.  I just hope Bruce incorporates a "call forwarding" system so that we can contact those souls who have reincarnated.

I might call my deceased father, only to find the person who answers the phone is a five year old girl living in Romania.

Also, the device would need an answering service.  For example, can you imagine the volume of phone calls someone like George Washington would get?  He and Martha would never get any peace and quiet.

But there would be advantages to such a system.  We would finally find out what happened to Amelia Earhart!

The one thing I do worry about is whether existing phone systems, such as Sprint and Nextel, would file legal challenges to Bruce's system.  Talk about unfair competition!   Wink

I saw an interesting show on the TV night or two ago. They were using a devise that scanned radio frequencies and they believed it to assist in contact with those who had died. Could this be others working on a Nimbus communication devise also?

I met Ed Carter at a Monroe Institute program and we became friends.  As an adviser/partner in Hampton Roads Publishing company Ed was responsible for getting the manuscript for my first book published.  We maintained contact after his death.

Unbeknownst to me Ed developed an interest in afterlife communication devices a few months before his death in December of 1997.  It was Ed who got the project started when after his death he showed me a conceptual design for such a device.

So far in the development of the device there have been only small successes that demonstrate that a nonphysical person can influence the device.  It does not yet function as a real-time, two way conversation device.
Ed is still in contact with me on occassion to help with development.  I feel that if my own perceptual skills were better the project would be further along.
