What's the third eye doing during OBEs etc?
Jan 31st, 2008 at 8:32pm

Greetings,

When I was OB today (or phasing,) my third eye seemed to be active, I seemed to feel energy pulse out of it several times. In previous years I've only felt pain up there but it's been feeling better lately.   Smiley  Yay!

Is there information from your experience or reading that could tell me what I can expect from it now that it's feeling better?

Bets

I figure there is no one way that a third eye can become active, so it is hard to say.

I can't answer your question Bets, but I hope you'll have an interesting time with your third eye!

You mean the spot in the middle of your forehead?  You used to have pain there?  Do you mean like headaches?  I don't get headaches there but I do get migraines.

Anyway, I don't know much officially about the third eye, but what I think I do know related to it is that when I have any OBE or clairvoyance I do feel that spot "open up".  There's a definite switch, where one moment it was not open and the next moment it is.  For instance when I have a clairvoyant experience I feel that switch, or click as I call it, and then the vision is there in my mind, just-like-physical-eyesight seeing.  It's the same effect while I am having an OBE.  For some reason it definitely feels like a physical sensation inside my brain while it is happening.

Bets

Hi Bets, i don't know the specific answers to your questions, but i can relate some stuff.   Years ago, having been fascinated by some psychically given info, i found myself a piece of a somewhat largish, indigo colored piece of Azurite, wrapped it partially in copper, and started to wear it.

A day or two into wearing it, i started to get an intense head ache type feeling in my 3rd eye area, which lasted about a day or so.   After that initial intense head achy feeling, nada, felt fine from then on.

I noticed my dream activity around then heightened, more precog dreams, my subtle senses seemed more clear and sharp in general.

I had just met my wife around this time, and i had told her about this odd head ache (i'm not prone to headaches at all) thing and that i attributed it to powerful resonance of this peculiar stone.

She laughed at me, and said "yeah, ok magic rocks".    Well..my ego couldn't take it, so i challenged her.   I said, fine, don't believe me, well lay down, i'll put in on your 3rd eye area, and let's see if anything happens.    Within about 20 minutes or so (don't remember specifically) she started to get an intense headache in the 3rd eye area too, which lasted for a couple of hours or so after taking it off.    Hah! So much for "magic rocks" i says with a self satisfied gloating expression (i'm sure).

Anyways, since then, i haven't experienced any more ache in that area.  Occasionally during deeper meditation, i'll get some pulsing like feeling which is fairly physical seeming in nature, or sometimes it looks like it opens up in my minds eye, but thankfully no painful aching.

Perhaps in my case, there were some blockages in that area, or rather it was just atrophied from non use, and in a sense it was like i was pumping it full of steroids all of a sudden (similar to taking certain drups like LSD, etc.), and it was becoming much more active, and in a pretty quick sense.   So, it's like stretching beyond what you are used to.

Just a guess, but i don't think you'll have any more overtly painful sensations in that area anymore, seems like you may have balanced it out enough through consistent practice and meditation, and the best thing for the Pineal gland, is imagination and visualization, and deeper meditation.   Sounds like its becoming increasingly active, and so nonphysical perception should become easier and easier for you, particularly of the "higher" planes (faster vibrating dimensions in the mental body primarily).

Btw, that food that i've talked about before, the one that Cayce very occasionally recommended-Mummy food, seems to be a "food" for the Pineal gland, and thus seems to help keep it active and open.    I keep meaning to be consistent with making and eating it, but don't.   When i have eaten it for more than a couple of days, i definitely noticed a greater openness in that area of nonphysical perception-relating to the Pineal/3rd eye center.    I think if i have time, i will make a big batch tomorrow.   You have inspired me unwittingly.  Wink
Meanwhile, more imagination practice and more consistent meditation, for me, would help a lot... but alas, i have tendencies to be a bit lazy and undisciplined.

As Spooky said, i hope you'll have an interesting time with your 3rd eye.

Roll Eyes Probably just a sinus infection......

No seriously, I've been experiencing quite a lot of physical sensation in these regions too in the past few years - ranging from a light 'crampiness to mild headache.

No idea what may be going on, but I've read of research (imagining studies and the like) done recently on long term meditators which involved the Dalai Lama. These have showed up definite physical changes (growth of a certain cell type) in the brain in the region behind the forehead.

Hi Vicky and vajra - to rid the migraine, I dont know if you`ve heard of this before however find a genuine blue cup, glass, vase, plate anything that is blue glass and hold it up to your eye, look thru it into sunlight and after doing so tell your migrain goodbye.

Thats very interesting Justin!
Bets, I went into someinfo for ya.

My books of stones explain what energy each mineral we have here on earth has, Azurite also known as Chessylite, crystals are monoclinic. It will enhance psychic abilities, as well as initiating transformation by cutting through illusions. Azurite releases the fear vibration, allowing true healing to take place and assist in cleansing the mental body. Azurite crystals will also enhance inspiration, creativity, and intuition within the mind. And it says in my book:  Azurite can also be used in the Third Eye Chakra for powerful vision enhancer.

Hmm so with all that going on, yes I certainly believe that a person will get a headache, for the simple fact that the body has to "get used" to this type of newly obtained energy.

Nanner

Hi Bets Dear, not a very helpful response from the forum was there?

In the Western Wisdom Teachings

According to Max Heindel's Rosicrucian writings, called Western Wisdom Teachings, there are in the brain two small organs called the pituitary body and the pineal gland. This last gland is also called by medical science as "the atrophied third eye"; however, these teachings describe that none of them are atrophying: the pituitary body and the pineal gland at the present time are neither evolving nor degenerating, but are dormant. It is said that in the far past, when man was in touch with the inner worlds, these organs were his means of ingress thereto, and they will again serve that purpose at a later stage. According to this view, they were connected with the involuntary or sympathetic nervous system and to regain contact with the inner worlds (to reawaken the pituitary body and the pineal gland) it is necessary to establish the connection of the pineal gland and the pituitary body with the cerebrospinal nervous system. It is said that when that is accomplished, man will again possess the faculty of perception in the higher worlds (i.e. clairvoyance), but on a grander scale than it was in the distant past, because it will be in connection with the voluntary nervous system and therefore under the control of his will.

Elsewhere

The third eye is used in many meditation schools and arts, such as in yoga, qigong, many Chinese martial arts, Zen, and in Japanese martial arts such as Karate and Aikido. Martial arts derive mainly from Taoism, but also draw from Zen Buddhism as a philosophy. Aikido is additionally influenced by the monotheistic religion, Oomoto-kyo.

In terms of Kabbalah, the third eye corresponds to the non-emanated sephirah of da'ath (knowledge/awareness). The Da'at is the mystical state of unity of the 10 Sephiroth.

Technique

In Taoism and many traditional Chinese religious sects such as "chan", "third eye training" involves focusing attention on the point between the eyebrows with the eyes closed in various qigong postures. The goal of this training is to allow students to have the ability in tuning into right vibration of the universe and gain solid foundation into more advanced meditation levels. Students who undertake such training often report experiencing feelings of pressure, pulsing, tingling and other sensations between the eyebrows and around the forehead area. However, opening third eye can not depend on this focusing only. This only allows one to tune in to the right vision. Generally, opening the third eye requires strong energy to explode all clogged channels and supplies constant energy to maintain it.

In theory, the third eye, also called the mind's eye, is situated right between the two eyes, and expands up to the middle of the forehead when opened. It is one of the main energy centres of the body located at the sixth chakra (the third eye is in fact a part of the main meridian, the line separating left and right hemispheres of the body).

Some claim that the chakras can be opened via chakra related gemstones, and that to open the third eye requires an amethyst that has been cleaned under flowing water before use

During the 60's, psychologists experimented with LSD and strobe lights to gain an effect which seemed to correlate with third eye opening experiences.

Physical basis: the pineal gland?

Some, including Rick Strassman, have suggested that the third eye is in fact the partially dormant pineal gland, which resides between the two hemispheres of the brain. This concept is supported by the pinealocytes, one type of cells within the pineal gland, having a strong resemblance to the photoreceptors of the eye. Additionally, the pineal gland is said to excrete dimethyltryptamine (DMT)which some think induces dreams, near-death experiences, meditation, or hallucinations. Various types of lower vertebrates, such as reptiles and amphibians, can actually sense light via a third parietal eye—a structure associated with the pineal gland—which serves to regulate their circadian rhythms.

There is evidence that the pineal gland produces the hormone melatonin, which has a role in regulating the body's circadian rhythm to the daily light/dark cycle and also assists with the immune system Because of all the above, the pineal gland has become for some the subject of speculation about its origin as a physical third eye.,

Hpoe this helps

Hi Bets, I don't know much specifically about the "third eye" except to say that it will spontaneously be "active" during some meditations, at least for me. I don't focus on that area, but it does seem to be the "area" for some healings to occur on occasion. Rare for me. For instance, I had a powerful meditation the other day and I found that I was able to release a lot of negative energy through this area. It was like a big "whoosh" feeling, and this huge amount of "something" flowed upward and out extremely quickly. A big (between the size of a bed and a house, just can't be sure) faceted dark ball took in this energy. I noticed practically invisible flecks of maybe pink, blue and purple tones in this mostly black ball.

Let me just say it was a very "authoritative" ball Smiley in that it was like a magnet for this substance flowing out of me.

Anyway, I am happy to hear that you were pleased to note a lack of pain. Perhaps you have also been healed in some way, and will be able to have new experiences to share with us.

love, blink Smiley

Thank You, All!

Yes, now I feel relieved by all your information.

Yes, Justin, I had some fig jam earlier that day, come to think of it! Yum! And not just a bit on toast, but spooning it right from the jar!  Cheesy  Embarrassed  Cheesy  I do feel channels toward the third eye activated when I eat that, but did not think of it later.

When all you have said and linked us to has blended in my brain, and if I get any further activity there in the third eye, I'll report on it.
Hey look-- we call ourselves I (I= eye?)  Smiley

Smiley I've just remembered that somebody (probably Dude - I'm really sorry, but I can't quite remember exactly and pardon me if I've got the name wrong) posted a link to a Taoist organisation doing darkness retreats in Thailand a few months ago.

This had a very credible sounding article on the science of consciousness, I think here: http://www.universal-tao.com/dark_room/index.html Go to the .pdf file half way down the page titled 'Science of Consciousness'.

It deals with what's going on in the various glands and so on, and would include a view on the physiology of the phenomenon of the third eye. Not sure how much is based on research...

Don't forget Frank Kepple's views on this.

Ginny knows him.  Maybe she can explain it more.

I have only read his material.  Very fascinating to say the least.

Link: http://www.astralpulse.com/frankkepple.html

Maybe I have posted that before...can't remember.

Still, I try to have 'fun' with my 3rd eye.
To see shapes, colors, areas/locations/rooms, and above all FACES.
Really cool stuff however, my 'eye' doesn't work all the time.
It can be frustrating when I want it too.
Then again I am sure it is me not being 'quiet' enough or 'in tune' enough.

Then again there are times when I close my eyes to go to sleep and it is rockin'.  hehe!

Adding onto my last post, and somewhat related to some of the info Nanner graciously shared info re: stones and crystals:

Azurite has that general affect in a more universal sense, but at the same time, the way it or rather we interact with it, is more relative and individual.   I think that's important to understand when becoming involved in such aids and props.

It might be much better for one, than another, and while i wouldn't say it would be harmful in and of itself, for any person, there are more subtle factors to consider at the same time.

It was a good stone for me, because of two main factors.  I was more deeply drawn to it (and i believe led to certain info regarding it via guidance), and because i already had a lot of deeper blue in my aura.

Hence, there was a harmonious and like attracts and begets like resonation which took place, which strengthened the "affect" the stone had on me, and without too much uncomfortable side affects.   And it should be mentioned that when Cayce's guidance recommended this stone (his source most called it Lapis ...something or another),  they said to put it inbetween some glass or crystal because its radiation would be too strong for most if it was directly against the skin.

If anyone is interested, the best stones/crystals for a person, are most often the ones whose color matches up generally to the most predominant color radiation in a person's aura--particularly in the mental layer, and then to a lesser extent the next most predominant color frequency radiated.

Very occasionally, and more temporarily speaking, a stone of the opposite color of the predominant colors in the aura, would be more helpful.

For example, say a person has a lot of dark, dingy, navy type blue in their aura (such a person would tend have to have very depressed, worried, and pessimistic tendencies and expressions).  It might be helpful for them to temporarily use or wear a stone with a more yellow-orangey type color to help balance stuff out.   If they can start to incorporate some of the more emotionally upbeat and energized frequencies that such a stone throws off, then they might later on want to go to a very clear and bright but deeper blue colored stone, such as sapphire, azurite, or the like.

  The harmony/music of the spheres...

That's funny.   Are you being serious in the above?  If so, do you normally eat a lot of fig at once like in the above?

Btw, in general, jam on toast is a big dietary/physical health imbalance facilitation.   When the body tastes sweets, it naturally shuts off the flow of certain enzymes in the mouth which are normally secreted to break down starches.   Sweets and starches together in the same meal is an extremely acidifying combo.  One of the few exceptions to this is more raw, low heat treated honey, which actually contains enyzmes that help to break down starch.  You can spread that kind of honey onto toast, wait a little while, and it will help you to digest the food, or rather more accurately, not hinder the process.

Anywho, somewhat related to mummy food and figs, i've come to believe that everything we label "physical" has its nonphysical, energetic counterpart, and thus has a potential Field affect on us, particularly in the case of food when we eat it, because that is a kind of concentrated intention and focussed desire in a sense.

Some aura sensitives for example, have reported seeing a person with dis-ease, decide to take some Bach flower homeopathic remedy, and even as they start to bring it to their lips and before actually even physically drinking it, the sensitives can see energetic affects start taking place in that person's aura/energy field.

  I definitely believe it.

At the same time, sometimes we have to treat physical, at physical.   If the issue originated from more purely physical related causes, then oft times we need to correct the balance via physical means for the most effective healing to take place.    Using energetic work always helps, but sometimes its like trying to patch a leaky boat with rolled up paper towels--not completely effective.

For example, you have some kind of fall or something, and later on you start developing all kinds of symptoms but don't connect these at first to the fall.  At first, we try all kinds of energtic healing, from Reiki to hypnosis, to prayer/meditation, and it really doesn't fully help. Later on though, if you're somewhat open to guidance, you might feel the urge to check out chiropractic work or something along that line.

If the chiropractor is a good one, they will adjust the right area, which was originally imbalanced in that fall.    Then, what do you know, your body starts to balance itself, and you lose the symptoms which up to then were as persistent as flea infestation.
