The Names Ad Titles Of God-Not All
Dec 24th, 2007 at 2:05pm

Hi I googled the below it might interest the forum. It might be Islamic?

It is needless to say that God, the All-Knowing and All-Seeing, need not be refered to by any one spefic name, since God knows full well when someone is referring to God. However, when speaking to anyone else, by virtue of the fact everyone else is a lesser being and therefore
painfully ignorant, we must make sure that whomever we are taking to understands that we are referring to God, the One, the Only and the Almighty.

To help us all understand this, we have compiled a list, as complete as we could make it in the English language, of all of the names and/or titles used to refer to God.

Below is a partial list of the names of God in alphabetical order.

"A rose by any other name..........would smell as sweet."

Or better yet:  The old song -

"You say toh-may-to, I say toh-mah-to.  You say po-tay-to, I say po-tah-to.

To-may-to!  To-mah-to!  Po-tay-to!  Po-tah-to!   Let's call the whole thing off!"

What's in a name?  A name is more useful here in the physical.  Not sure if it applies anywhere else.  As thought and language are different in the spiritual planes.  I like the old Testament's version - when asked who sent him, Moses was told to tell them "I am that I am"  something I affectionately think of the 'Popeye the sailor' answer for how to describe God.  I also like the monicker "the all that is," or the source.

I think people get too hung up on labels.  Especially labeling that which can not be labeled.

As the Koran tells us, "God has many names. Each of them most excellent."

Greetings,

Just for fun (not to be argumentative) I asked google about names and titles that other religions have for their supreme beings.  Google's searches found sites that reported the following number of names and titles for:

Christian God---100
Allah--99
Jehovah--10
Muhammed---100
Jesus---144

Actually I don't think this shows anything about the subject, which is dissappointing because I'd hoped such quick surveys by Google might be a good way to get information fast.
In general it looks like when the compilers got to 100 they felt their work was done.
Wink  It does make a long list of names not to be taken in vain.
