Christmas - question to all -
Dec 19th, 2007 at 9:42am

I would like to see something and ask all of my friends here to participate. Topic Christmas. This topic will have something to do with different realities, so bare with me, when there are enough realities shown I`ll  tell you the secret of this thread.

Work with me a bit please.

Since I am in germany, way far from most of you I`d like you to share your christmas feeling with me, if you would.

  • Discribe to me what your christmas tree looks like every detail which you can see

  • what the atmosphere is like and

  • what presents you bought for your kids / family or friends.

  • What is it that you`d wish someone to give you as a present this year?

Love you all,
Nanner

Hi Nanner,

I am willing to go along with this thread. First, I live California in a suburb 10 miles from downtown L.A...

Our X'mas tree is 7 ft high (estimated). It is an artificial tree bought long ago by my parent-in-law.(I am living with them this year). The tree is dark green in color. This year, my husband made it very plain - it only have red lights, silver garlands, and a handful of blue and silver ornaments. Not enough to cover the tree. As a result, you can see a lot of green.. We placed my son's train underneath the X'mas tree. Oh I forgot, instead of a star or an angel on the tip of the tree, there sits Santa Claus.

Personally for me, it has been hectic since November. The atmosphere is a lot of hussling and bussling. On the weekends, the mall is packed with shoppers looking for gifts. Finding parking is hellish. At work, we each take turn bringing in food to share with the division. (So, I see myself unable to shed the baby weight during this time). The house is a mess with all the gifts laying around because we haven't had time to wrap them, yet. It seems like there is so much to do and so little time.

This year, my husband bought the gifts for the neices and nephews. He got them toys. For example, a Dora Castle set, bowling alley game, etc.. For the adults, we do Secret Santa, where we pick one name out of a bowl and only buy it for that one person. I bought my sister-in-law a pair of boots, knowing that most likely she would return it (every year we buy the wrong thing for each other). For my parent-in-laws, all of the siblings are chipping in to buy them a navigator for the car. On my side of the family, I bought gift cards for my sister and brother at Hollister and American Eagle. For my parents, I bought them a Canon camera off of Amazon.com.

What do I want for X'mas this year? Well, it would be nice if someone would offer to take me to get laser done on my face, so that my skin looks flawless (I am 30, right now).  I have a lot of sun spots and moles on my face from not putting sunblock on my face (and I don't even sun tan at all!).

Okie.. looking forward in reading what you have to tell us!

No Answers from me...yet.

Too early to tell....I am in Grinch Mode....BAH!

We sell Imported Pastry Ingredients and Gourmet Specialties....
People annoy me at this time of year....it is like Christmas is on a different DATE or something.

Why are they waiting to the last minute when we have provided Pre-Order Sheets and reminded them what is available.
Always getting phone calls for Christmas Related products....WAKE UP PEOPLE!
SOLD THEM ALL...We sent you a Pre-Order sheet.  We are not going to sit on this stuff for a whole year or buy extra just so YOU might call us or not.

I never 'get into the mood' until Christmas Eve when our son is home for a week and then the whole family is together...
Then, I can relax.  Actually the weekend of New Years is even more relaxing. I am taking that WHOLE week off. I didn't give my employer a choice either.
Since HE decided to take a VACATION for the last two weeks.
There is only two of us here and he took a VACATION at Christmas Time?
Our biggest sales hit of the year?

People annoy me...
They are so selfish....thinking only of themselves.
Oh...and the fact that my employer thinks I am stoopid and is on VACATION this time of year for one thing and one thing only....
To cheat on his wife...To be with this other woman at Christmas time.  That is what ticks me off. I have known this guy since 1984 and he thinks I am that dumb not to realize what is going on...
Sorry for the rant...
I feel better now...hehe!

Dood  Grin  I am a little like Dood. the only reason I pay attention to holidays is because my kids force me to year after year and I keep hoping they will forget holidays but no, they won't. so at the last minute I get the holiday cheer but it is for their sake, because they are the true holiday for me.
Dana will receive the red tea pot that whistles; I already see it whistling to remind her to hurry up and put her makeup on and get herself out the door to work! she is a day late and a dollar short always! Wink Michelle will receive the vegetable chopper, as she is always cooking up something another country cooks, which is sometimes good, sometimes I have to fake it.

a side note to Linh, when I was pregnant I developed a liver spot on my forehead, and maybe you have developed this too, it does go away over time, I don't think its from the sun necessarily.

say Dood, side note; you and your employer have been together in another time line in different bodies. (stricly opinion) thats why you care about him when he treats his wife like this, he's bringing something on his head by being dishonest and you know it deep down, but aren't allowed to say so right now. after all, he's your employer you figure you can't say anything. you actually don't have to say anything. it will all come out in the wash. I am furthering your rant! haha! I have a strong belief a woman has a right to know if her husband is straying from the vows, thats so she can make new decisions.
I sound like dear Abagail. sorry!

my decorations Nanner consist of a gummy substance says PEACE on my window, going to leave it there all year.

what I want for Xmas? hmmm. theres nothing I want! so that means anything I get is like frosting on the cake!
wait. yes, I told the kids I wanted some ceramic ducks to put in my yard. you know the tacky kind, white, with baby ducks with the mom. I have a mother duck of ceramic in my yard now, her neck has been mended with glue.  Cry  her babies are broken and she needs some babies as she's been alone out there since last year.

So Nanner dearie, you lead us in conversation, but I didn't hear from you what you want and how your house looks and I'm interested in German culture and all ears about you.

You are quite the wild card, Nanner... I'm loving it.

My tree: small, prelit, about 3-4 feet tall, artificial, in an "outdoor" style urn. It has my favorite decorations on it, saved through the years, and they are the perfect number for the tree. The star on top is a pure white star-shaped shell with a turquoise ribbon wrapped through the points of the shell. The ornaments include angels, snowmen, stars, wise men, a wood duck, a little grandma, reindeer, santa, ribbons, wooden carved strings of beads, birds, etc.

The atmosphere is restrained, but joyful. I burn incense. I have "candle-like" oil burner lamps which are made of venetian-type glass and can be on all the time (without the oil, of course).

I have bought no gifts yet. I am shopping today, and I have a list, but I am waiting for inspiration to strike, because I enjoy a flurry of a last minute search....I am a happy procrastinator and love overnight deliveries.

This is a romantic Christmas for me. My boyfriend is a Christmas cactus, a tiny bit prickly at times, but he is showing his true colors at last.  I have everything I could possibly want. Normally, I would travel to be with family in other states, but he is my family now.

Last night we stood on his street, which has a reputation here for wild, extravagant and kooky Christmas lights. These people are creative and wacky.  It's a party up and down the street, families with children, couples, students, the occasional musician, a slow parade of cars with their lights dimmed.

And so, a little bit of everything in my stocking. Smiley

On Christmas Eve, I occasionally stay up and watch a little of the Pope on tv. It's a spectacle that can be spellbinding. I enjoy the traditional music and ceremony.

This year, I hope to remember a few of those in need, perhaps in my neighborhood, those ones that stand around the drug stores and convenience stores, the ones who have so little. Although, to be honest, this is not merely what needs to be done at one time of year.

This year, I also hope to remember that every day can be Christmas. Let us all givers and receivers be!

love, blink Smiley

Hi nanner My christmas tree has lots of silver stars on it and it looks really pretty.

The atmosphere is fairly good apart from the fact i'm in the stages of divorce, but im keeping cheerful and looking forward to christmas.

I've brought my grandchildren a mixture of things toys clothes and chocolate selection boxes.

Well my best present this year for christmas would be my "Decree Absolute"to come through the post.which means in England that i'm finally divorced but as i wont get that yet ,i would settle for a nice silver cross and chain instead.

My daughter and her husband and my grandaughters will be round christmas day for dinner and tea and also my son and his fiancee as well,so it will be a nice day for me.

My great  grandfather on my fathers side was german and lived in germany and eventually moved to England, where he met my great grandmother and he stayed in England until he died.

Love and God bless    love juditha

300 guests showed up to witness "Bethelehem Revisited" at the Colville United Methodist Church.  Our church artists have painted huge murals on Christmas motifs that span the entire length of our long halls.  Fabulously talented art!  The halls lights are replete with beautiful strings of Christmas lights that create a haunting and mysterious atmosphere.  Each room in the church is like a Hollywood movie set for dramatizations of each key element of the Christmas story, including Isaiah's prophecies.  The guests are escorted through these dramas by Roman centurions wielding swords who have a condecending attitude towards the peasant guests!  All the actors are clad in authentic-looking costumes.  The guests view Isaiah prophesying in full trance, then witness a frightened Mary visit her aunt Elizabeth.  Elizabath, being a discerning mystic, is able to calm Mary down and build up her courage.  Then the guests are taken to the Census taker, who explains to them how a subject people must behave to keep their Roman masters happy and Roman coffers filled.

The guests are then taken to Bethlehem's marketplace.  The innkeeper offers "these peasants" advice about where to stay, since his inn has long since been filled to capacity.  The children are given coins to donate to the shabbily dressed beggar who tries to hustle the guests for handouts.  The adults are amused by the beggar, but the young children are very protective of him and his needs.  The marketplace is full of tents displaying all the wares a first century Palestinian village would sell.  Guests are taught first-century crafts and games.  The children are espacially enthralled by these ancient games.  The children are taught how to make rope and weave with an ancient loom.  But the highlight is the animals--a live donkey, llama, goats, and sheep in the stable--inside the church!  The children all get to ride the cute donkey.

Then I ( centurion) interrupt the proceedings and lead the guests down a mystical tunnel with georgeous wall murals to the shepherds in the field and the well-dressed magi.  After this encounter, the centurions, accompanied by the shepherds and magi, visit the Christchild in a stable.  [Mothers here deem it a great  honor to have their baby perform this role.]  After a further dramatization of the Christmas story, the guests are all given candles to light and place in a candle tree.  The atmosphere is dark and peaceful against the backdrop of an artistically stunning setting and a gargantuan Christmas tree with georgeous lights.  While this is going on, winged angels serenade the guests with carols.  Finally, I [1 of 6 centurions] escort them to the outside door.  A  long series of covered candles lines the walk to their cars.

Hi Nanner-
OK, I'll play too. - I don't have a Christmas tree - we live in the country surrounded by Monterey Oaks that have their own beauty. We have assorted birds, some owls at night, and a herd of turkeys (30 to 40 of them) parading through at intervals. I cheer the Solstic passage as a sign of renewal. The wife has decorations more appropriate to her religious beliefs - Wicca + Catholicism (enough to make the Spanish Inquisition green with envy!)

We celebrate with the kids and grandkids and great-grandkids - they're all good Christians and put out a nice informal feed and chat while the young ones open boxes and such.

I'm not very imaginative. My office is directly above a jeweller, so I just get all the girls shiny rocks of some kind - they seem to appreciate that. Of course I do get complaints that I keep on giving one daughter amethysts, and she wants me tobe sure to know that she also enjoys diamonds, rubies, emeralds etc. For the wife, I have a nice shiny stainless 9x17 mm purse size automatic pistol, plus all the cleaning gear that goes with it, and enough ammunition to learn to shoot it. (She has a .25 cal that I mistrust. It jams. - Worse, if she ever shot somebody with it, and if they found out, they'd likely get pretty angry.)

What I'd like for Christmas is assurance that the only time she or I will ever shoot our weapons will be in a sporting range setting.

I love the holiday season.  This year I’m not decorating very much as my oldest daughter is having Christmas at her house.  I did put up the cutest little tabletop tree.  The gold star at the top is representative of the Star of David.  I made a multicolored beaded garland and found the cutest miniature ornaments to put on it.  It’s one of those artificial pre-lit trees with white lights.  I also made a wreath and decorated it with blue and gold ornaments.

My kids and grandkids always ask for soft furry socks to stay at home in.  They like pampered feet.  I guess who doesn’t?  Other gifts are dependent on my grandkids ages, which range from 1 year to 17 years old.

I can’t think of a better gift than for me to see heaven on earth, for all people everywhere to live in love and harmony.

Love, Kathy

Hi Nanner,
Well I have a real tree. One of the nicest my wife and myself have ever had. Big Angel on the top, with colored lights winding up through the tree. Lots of vcolored glass balls and a few of the old style ones also. Red garland and some of the acicle tinsel. There is an old wooden horse and some glass birds on the branchs. A real old style looking tree. There are a few presents underneath but not all that many. Around our house its all Christmas. Anita is cooking up a storm and the house smells like nutmeg and cinnamon and of course Japanese oranges.I always gain a few pounds around this time of the year, and at 50 and allready just over 200 lbs, I don't need much help. She has her little town set up with a train and all also. The windows are all dressed up and our family, our two dogs, are kind of looking at us like we are nuts or something. Lots of low energy lights outside keeping us in the spirit at night also. There is a big bowl of raw nuts ready to be eaten and a small bar ready for guests should they wish a little nip or two.

The dog will be getting some bones and a few treats of the same sort. Anita a puzzle, I-Pod thing, and I will be off to town tommorow for a third. I don't know what she put under the tree today but she called me to let me know that my present was wraped and under the tree today.I sent the family some smoked fish that I have done up from this years catch and of course the Salvation Army always gets a good share also.

When it comes to what I want I never know what to say. I wanted this catalog I saw last year. It was for giving to others less fortunate in third world countries. Things like chickens, or a goat. Seeds or honey bees. That kind of thing. I can't wait to talk to my family and just them being healthy and for some of them. alive, is the best present of all.

The only other thing would be to let everone know, world wide that love is the true answer and all we all really need. I love those extremists just as much as I love the JW's and the atheists. If everyone really just let go of indoctrination of hate and of fear, what a wonder world we would be living in. Of course I won't be leaving out all those who come here. I pray my heart opens wider and I become more tolerant of others beliefs and they of my shortfalls.

My love to All of you in this seasion and in all seasions.
Joe
