Personally, I'd say that you're absolutely right. It's the etheric process that eventually manifest as "everyday real world processes".

Edgar Cayce called the etheric world and its operation by the name "akash" - literally emptiness. Ancient Hindus tended to take a similar view. The more modern term would probably be "entropy in a potential state space". Either way, it's activity that occurs on the most primal level and works outward to become manifest.

Dunno about your specific, last question George, but my understanding so far is that we have 5 main bodies with various 'sub levels' within these, and this also relates to the 7 main Chakras in some ways as well.

These 5 main bodies of the human energy system are physical, etheric, emotional, mental, and spiritual.   Each up from the physical, is on a faster vibrating 'octave' for lack of a better term.   The etheric body is the nonphysical pattern of the physical body, almost like a mirror image body which is a moderately faster vibratory pattern.   This level of energy is fairly easy to see for many, oft seems like a glow around people's bodies.    It directly interfaces the physical and emotional energies, almost like its a blend of these and their interactions.

When many people transition from the physical to the nonphysical dimensions, the etheric starts to quickly dissipate and loses it's 'hold' on the consciousness, because the etheric and emotional levels are very strongly tied into the dense physical energies.   However, those who become stuck when they pass on, are primarily operating from the etheric energy levels.   Hence why to them, life still seems pretty physical in some ways, as far as perceiving the physical in ways similar to physically incarnate humans.

But, once they realize certain things, change some belief systems, and change their inner attitudes and feelings, they will start to quickly drop the etheric aspect to their energies, or rather maybe its more accurate to say that they just won't be primarily and so strongly and narrowly focusing their consciousness within that bandwidth of consciousness/energy anymore.

When people have a classic OBE, with all the dramatic "effects" as Recoverer has said, they are really just phasing into and concentrating their consciousness tuner (the Mind) in the etheric range of vibrations within self.   Because it is not that much faster vibrating than physical energies themselves, "space", and outer inner polarized experiences happen--hence they feel they are really leaving their body.  Those who phase into their faster vibrating bodies while conscious, usually don't get such physical like sensations and experiences,  and while they may still be aware of their physical body to some extent, they have a harder time perceiving the physical nonphysically in a manner to a person in their typical waking state.   Our nonphysical sensing of the physical seems almost 'hazier' in some respects then.   Kind of the reverse of when one has a dream, but as they become more and more aware of and concentrate on the physical, the dream starts to get hazier and more vague.
