Well I'm only about 65% convinced there is one.. so maybe I'm not a good candidate. I sometimes wonder if it's not wishful thinking, or inventions by our subconscious minds. I prefer to think this is not the case.

I have certainly had experiences, and heard anecdotes, that seem to prove there is something though. Although maybe "prove"is too strong a word.

Well,

i had some negative experiences, i have described elsewhere, where a spirit who I had contacted in a group ouija-board sessions seemed to start moving a pen when I was doodling alone. He drew pictures and wrote messages about himself.
I became a bit obsessed with the experience and around the same time found I was getting odd twitches in my disaphragm muscles and neck. later on I found that i could relax and the spirit would say the odd word with my voice. I didn;t experiment much, but got worried as his messages became more disturbing. I eventually went to an Anglican exoricist, a couple of spiritulists (at the same time) and then a transpersonal psychologist, and found I could relax and close my eyes and let this spirit take over my body and voice  and talk to them independently of myself, even though I was still conscious and passively listening to what he was saying. He reacted quite violently to the priests's attempts to exorcise him (and it was at the altar rail of a traditional Church of England church and i think he left the door unlocked, so I was a bit concerned what would happen if someone came in!), not very cooperatively to the Spiritualists'attempts to get him to "go to the light"  and also uncooperatively to the psychologist's attempts to talk to him and get him to leave me alone. His issues included having had a viloent father he hated and couldn't forgive,  and thinking God hated him for certain things he had done in life and he didn't think he could go to Heaven.   I eventually just decided to stop trying to communicate with him and to block him out as best I could, which seemed to work more or less eventually. He claimed to be the spirit of a Yorkshire miner, who died in a mining accident. He had some problems/preoccupations similar to some of my own, which might have attracted him to me, but was different in other ways. the psychologist didn;t think he was "part of me". The last thing i tried was a Spititualist who got her 'development circle" to try to contact him and talk to him about leaving me alone (not while I was there). Supposedly one of them spontaneously said they had an impression he died in an enclosed dark place with black water, when the Spiritualist had not said he was meant to be a miner. In the later stages, I could also simply relax and listen inside my head in a specific way, and hear comments from this entity.

Otherwise, more recently I have had some messages from someone who seems to be a helpful guide in the same way. he makes encouraging, sensible comments to me so far. i am glad about this. again, i just have to tune in in a certain way, and usually i am able to hear some comments and/or have a telepathic dialogue. It's like when you talk to yourself in your head, but i have not consciously generated the thoughts that come from the other spirit.\

i started experimenting with ouija boards with freinds around the age of 18 - 21. i had a few odd experiences with this, and I remember the first time I tried it - in france - and the first message said via the glass (not very positively) mort moi jamais plus revivre je vous envie (I am dead and will never live again. i envy you). Another odd message once (in the Uk) supposedly came from a person who had lived in the 16th century or thereabouts, who  said something liek "I verily wish christ would invote faith in God into townworkers" [I'm not even sure if "invote"is a real word]

Otherwise, there was a weird experience when I was 17 or so, and a reader of Dennis Wheatley occult books and generally inetrested in the occult and paranormal, and I was at a work camp restoring an old castle in France, and there was one teenage participant who was an odd character who claimed to be some sort of a Neo-Nazi, and a group of us spent the night in this old semi-restored castle, in underground chambers, and at a certain point he started behaving very weirdly and seemed to have become possessed by an evil spirit. i forget exactly. He seemed to become ill and started breathing strangely, I think and then started walking around in a kind of trance, drawing strange symbols in the dust and scratching a symbol on his chest (I think)  and when someone approached him he reacted in a violent, animalistic way, snarling at them. I think I thought I was the Duc de Richelieu or somthing (you know what I mean if you ever read Dennis Wheatley or saw the film The Devil Rides Out -- if not, he is a powerful good magician in Wheatley's occult novels) and I tried to command the evil spirit to leave him,  and wondered if we could get some holy water from the church, but I don't think it was impressed. He seemed to eventually get back to more or less normal later the next day, although even though he appeared normal, i remember one moment when he looked at me strangely and snarled, like the demon was still there.

Otherwise, I had a few helpful messages attending Spiritualist churches, but not much that leaves a very strong impression on me. Then I also had quite an interesting eperience of hypnotic regression where i seemed to remember an unhappy  16th century female life; but it is hard to know for sure if it was real or not. i can only say certain images and thoughts came to mind.

As for other people's anecdotes, i remember, for example a women saying she went to a direct voice medium and heard the voices of her brothers who died in the second world war saying things only they would have known about.

It's no coincidence that when I pay attention - when I meditate, pray, and seek higher guidance, I see things clearer.

I often spot repeating numbers such as 11:11 on my clock, I always see auras and occasionally I get sleep paralysis and experience uncomfortable vibrations. I once smelt sandalwood incredibly strongly (it "hit" me in the nose and head) whilst reading an encyclopedia article about Sai Baba in my school library. I also remember one dream which was a message from a deceased relative...

Nothing however, compares to actually being out of one's body and wholly conscious. I posted about my singular experience a year ago on this forum. I "popped out" through my head (or so it would seem) quite spontaneously, and found myself moving fast through a dark tunnel, with small silvery stars in the background (I was told that these are "soul sparks", can anyone verify this? What does it mean?)

I felt more alert in this state than I have ever been in my waking life - free of this dense body. I knew that I could travel by thought, because when I looked around for that split second, I realised I could see everywhere around me; my consciousness shifted instantaneously with my thoughts.

Unfortunately, like The_Seeker, the afterlife also seems to have abandoned me since! I think it must have been too much for my (then) teenage self and I willed it away. I regret it.

So there's my own definitive proof of the afterlife so far. I yearn to find that state again, so that in future I can be a more active participant in his forum, and in life in general.

Hi OOBD-
My experiences include recollection of a perhaps a million or two years of evolution, from recollection of being a tube worm of some sort, to sketchy development as a crawling critter, lots and lots of stages of hairy simian development during which I began to think, then a few centuries of human levels of being.

I've always been interested in chemistry and drugs. In a regression session I was told that I once was a physician in England, and in my current life I seem to be nearly obsessed with the idea  that anything can be treated with only a dozen or so herbals - but herbals from the Culpepper era. And in general they actually work quite well with fewer side effects than many modern chemicals. However I use antibiotics etc as needed.

I vaguely recall being on a field gun crew, possibly in the Crimea (I remember the little Gurka-style pillbox hat). It was a "very modern" weapon with probably the very first hydraulic recoil suppressors, mounted on cartwheels. As a military thread continued, I was blown up in one of those catastrophic explosions that leaves very little behind. Like the cartoon character that is looking into a canon and in the next scene is outlined in soot with all the hair, clothing and everything else blown away. I was wearing khaki short pants. In this life I abandoned the artillery and joined the Air Force. But I still enjoy shooting, especially with antique black powder rifles that only toss a ball a short distance (half or three quarters of a mile). They're more fun than my more powerful modern smokeless powder guns (5 mile range), especially since I stopped hunting and became a friend to the critters I used to eat. My present house has deer sleeping in the yard and I lost count of the wild turkeys when a gaggle of more than thirty swarmed through this week.

Somewhere in the military phase I seem to have been using and perhaps developing poison gas, and had some kind of chemistry background, perhaps as a technician or junior chemist. In the present, I've worked in chem labs, and developed a slight background in military chemicals, both as used in crowd control and also in war. In this life I've had several experiences with vesicants, usually poison oak or poison ivy, which do precisely the same thing as mustard gas. From an industrial accident I got toxic pneumonitis that nearly killed me, again quite similar to gas effects - evidently I got too much joy out of watching people suffer in the past. In this life I've learned a great deal about compassion for poison gas victims and the like.

I dropped out of society for about five years, became a hippie, trying to discover who and what I was. I discovered that yoga, and especially the Tibetan techniques and Hindu kundalini yoga, not only made psychedelics drugs vastly more powerful, but that they could totally replace drugs, thus avoiding unpleasant side effects, like getting arrested. In this period I experienced samadhi, and the direction of my life changed - returning me to school to become a therapist. Samadhi is not explainable except that it is the participatory awareness of reality at levels more fundamental than normal. After years of development of yoga, now drugs tend to interfere with my awareness, and I use them primarily as herbal medicinals. (As one example, dextromethorphan cold syrup (OTC) and marijuana are a safe equivalent to a recipe I found in the US Pharmacopoeia c. 1900, where opium and tincture of cannabis were prescribed as symptomatic cures for the common cold - and they are effective! Just don't make any major decisions.)

I get whatever I ask God to give me, although not always as expected. This can be embarrassing, since it feels a bit like riding a race car blindfolded. In general I settle for finding parking spaces when I need one. Many years ago I complained about not having anyone to talk with in terms of metaphysics. I now have a wife who is better equipped medically than I (geriatric nurse) and who is an operationally competent Wiccan (God gives her what she wants too) who can discuss anything from reincarnation to black holes, and who can make friends with wild creatures anywhere - from vagrant raccoons and opossums in the neighborhood, to coati mundis in the jungle, birds that eat from her hand. And interestingly, Bruce has provided, for his own reasons, a place in which I find my desires for metaphysical conversation met.

I first played with hypnosis when I was about 13 years old. In my clinical practice, I was trained as a psychoanalyst, then took classes and mastered advanced hypnotic methods. During my roughly seven years of internship, one of my first clients came in with a past life problem. I didn't ask for it, nor was I prepared, but later I studied various methods for past life work, developing a hypnoanalytic methodology that is effective with both present life and past life issues, and extremely rapid - about 300X faster than classical Freudian methods. I now see people with past life issues fairly commonly.

All of this tells me that there is a great deal more than the everyday world. In fact, the magnitude of the spirit world seems far greater than the limited world of everyday experiences.

dave, I am pretty impressed you remember a couple of million years of spiritual evolution (although if you were evolving in a literal physical sense, obviously it would take much more than this from tube worm to hypnotherapist) ! Did this knowledge come to you spontaneously, through special meditational techniques, or through being regressed by someone else?

It's also intersting you describe having experienced "Samadhi". How did that change things afterwards, and how do you equate that with complete "enlightenment" - is it a kind of brief taster?

You seem convinced that our souls can be housed in very basic entities at first. This seems to go against what I've been reading in Michael Newton's book journey of Souls, as I think he said such simple forms (actually, I think animals generally, and early forms of man) were not deemed suitable by the powers that be as vehicles for souls to learn in. Do you have any view on this, or this author?

hey Dude, good idea this thread!  my first true convincing of the afterlife was at 17 or 18 yrs of age (long time ago lets just say!)  my best friend and I tried an experiment for a spirit to use one of us thru our vocal cords and he was a better medium than I, and he went to sleep and a spirit came thru, I asked his name, said he was Sir Hillary, had been killed by a sword fight thru eye socket so he was blinded. said it was "dark" there. I asked him what century he had lived and he said 16th.
when my friend woke up he didn't remember he had been used. I gave him some time to call his bluff, but he just didn't know what happened.
I then told him what happened and that was the last time I saw him! haha! it was too scary and he didn't want to explore the afterlife and I don't blame him.
I told my sister the next day. (more happened when I went home that night)
and sis found a history book with a Sir Hillary listed in the 16th century.

thanks for the thread Dude again! love, alysia

Hi Orlando-
Samadhi is a participatory awareness that is totally state specific - it's also a very normal experience for meditators. In essence, to the degree that we allow the everyday world to go away, and then join into what is really happening, we enter samadhi of one or another sort. In the last instance, "right samadhi" (Eightfold Path) is completely external and logically prior to the everyday world.

Samadhi is an active state of mind, not an end in itself, but a means to insight.

As far as I was able to tell, Michael Newton has never accepted transmigration through intermediate phases of existence. He strongly leads  his sessions, so that people respond more or less as he asks them to. While this gives a nice consistency to his work, it fails to explore other options. I use a totally non-leading approach and get all manner of feedback, but in general if I ask people to "go as far back in time and space as you are able" I typically get a response from an animal - "Oh, I am a deer" or whatever.

In doing any of this work, it is important to avoid leading people, otherwise they respond in a distorted manner. From listening to him and reading his books, I'd say that Newton has established his opinion about a materially factual afterlife in which there are permanent structures and activities. For him, everyone passes through these identical stages, and sees the same places - just as if they stayed in Paris or New York on their way to rebirth. I believe this to be misleading, but there is no reason to deny that it can be true, since we can create it and re-create it anyway we wish. By not leading we reduce the post hoc creativity, and in my opinion, we get better data.

Hi Elanor and welcome. its nice to meet someone who also "popped" out. lol. I popped out from my forehead..is this the case with yourself? or was it the top of the head?

I don't think u are abandoned, but it seems when it happens they are very very special events that cannot be repeated quite the same way, as our expectations may be. for instance, I have never popped out again quite the same fashion as then. please participate as much as u want here, I hardly think any of us are more advanced than yourself and besides I think honest is more important and u seem like very nice honest person who thinks we know more than u do! well maybe I know a thing or two, but u probably know something I don't, so where is it? cough it up! lol.

have fun!  Cheesy

Hi Orlando, those are definite intriguing experiences. it does look like the miner was attracted to you as you have had similar things happen to you, he is drawn to that. once u start thinking different thoughts he will find another to hang around. you might learn the art of retrieval and send him onward to his rightful place. sounds like a bugger, he does.

I think I'd like to see a book come out of u someday...a lot of experiences you're gathering. love, alysia

Hi Alysia, yes, you could say I've had some intriguing experienecs I guess. Never managed to pop out of my body yet though, although a have tried from time to time! I have thought about writing a book before. you never know. But I feel if I was to write about this kind of topic at this stage in my life I wouldn;t have a strong enough conclusion yet, to leave people feeling satisfied and hopeful. I could just say: look, some weird stuff happened to me, and er.. I think everyone should try to be nice to each other  Grin

hey! haha! Smiley I like the way u think Oliver. u r right of course, but I was thinking maybe later on in life you'd get on it. when more experiences come. we have a few authors on this forum that I know of. you have writing skill already..your stuff flows easy. Just wanted to mention that writing is very fulfilling but tasking and u probably already know that.
I didn't think I had enough to write about either when I first started, however u might notice when you start writing more information comes from out of nowhere...or memories become more clear, even other lives sometimes unravel themselves if you get that deep or if u even want to.
also, whenever you need assistance, there are "editors" hovering if you call out for that.
just my experience. love to you, enjoy your life!  Smiley

Hi LaffingRain, thanks for your kind thoughts, and for reassuring me that I haven't been "forgotten".  Smiley

I chanced upon this forum late last year, and since then have been in awe of the knowledgable, gifted and helpful souls, such as yourself, here. I also promptly forgot my password and lurked around sadly like a wandering ghost for a year, until recently, when I discovered a certain "password reset" option!    Tongue

You have a very interesting blog, by the way. I feel the same in that I don't wish for another incarnation - I feel a deep and distinct sense of not belonging here, and melancholy. However I don't know if these choices are mine to make... How did you realise that this will be your last lifetime?

In retrospect, I'm quite sure I popped out through my forehead. I've raised energy more in my third eye chakra than others, so it might be a result of that.

The message from spirit I got was through a dream: I saw my late grandma and granddad together, as though they were posing for me. They seldom appear to me in dreams and I could tell it was a message as it was unusually vivid and clear. I called home when I awoke (I was studying halfway round the world from home at that time), to ask if everything was ok. My dad told me that his sister (my aunt and my grandma and granddad's daughter) passed away. She had cancer. I was not very close to them, but I'm very grateful for the message.

I wish I had more moments of epiphany (!) to share with you all. I'll pray for them. Smiley

thanks for the read  Smiley
____

by the way. I feel the same in that I don't wish for another incarnation
____
I know how you feel, I'm empathic to pick up other's feelings. I used to feel the same way, I didn't want to come back. then upon further reflection over my life events and receiving some help to see those events differently, I saw that it wasn't another life here I was running from, but a repeat performance I feared of events which caused me growth in the soul area, but felt really bad to go through them. then I was told I didn't have to repeat history and so that changed everything for me and it doesn't matter if I come back or not, whatever happens is what's supposed to happen.
____

- I feel a deep and distinct sense of not belonging here, and melancholy.
____
Same thing I felt back in the 80's. I'll share a little. I was going to let an illness take me out. but first a prayer, just to make sure I was doing the right thing. I told god, (not going to try to explain what god is) I'm leaving. unless u got a better idea.
a voice said give me a little time to come up with what you need. its that still small voice, we all got one. Then all of a sudden one day about a week or two later I came across a lecture on the Course In Miracles and the spirit flooded my being as I knew I had found what I needed in order to stay here.
the first reading I came across these words "this is not your home."
so you see Elanor, the reason you feel you don't belong here is because you are on a journey away from your home. I know where you belong! In my home, the same as yours on the spirit levels.
I don't think I will be able to uplift you any with these mere words but just know I am sensing your longing for home as it is/was the same as mine.
In our true home there is harmony, peace, love abounding, there is a sense of the most abundant life force and comradery amongst all, we never get tired or bored or despaired; we love learning new things, we create as we go along beauty and harmony, and there is no one allowed to bring disruption or be hurtful to another being as they have their own worlds to be creating that. we are occassionally sent to help them elevate themselves when they ask for help or are ready.
the fact is, I live there right now, so I am home because home is a state of consciousness and its wherever you hang your hat. but thats another story. so my story is a lot like that song "how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me.
as wretched as I was feeling, there is hope for you if there was hope for me!
___

However I don't know if these choices are mine to make... How did you realise that this will be your last lifetime?
____
I think it was much later, I discovered I had more choices now about how I wanted to create my personal reality, so within those choices, I realized I didn't really have to come back if I didn't want to, as I had burned off all the karmic conditions by rectifying all my family relationship I had cut the ties that bond by forgiveness, so I didn't owe anybody anything, but it was more than this. I came up with a theory, it probably just concerns my type of pattern and not everybody's, but my theory is if you reach from a soul level to at least one other person in your life, to lift them out of some pit they are in, then that was your intention for incarnating; or I should say one of your intentions has then been fulfilled. This was like my foster father I came in to help lift him up. when I succeeded in that, I realized I was made free myself to not have to suffer to enter another life like that for there is suffering involved to pull someone out of a pit by forgiving them in the true sense, with god's help. We often talk about enlightenment here, what it is, how to measure it, etc. Enlightenment might be likened to discovering your own innate goodness and just doing unto others like you'd want done to yourself, and I don't see this is beyond anyone's understanding so there's always hope! as you progress, more choices come to your mind about expression of yourself, you will gain a type of mental balance and no longer feel bad about anything going on. but I don't want it to seem it happens all of a sudden, we are all in a sort of process of becoming.

most people don't know about chakras that they are energy portals in the human body and spin with the mentality; they link us to our home world. the 3rd eye might be the pineal gland, said to have shrunk quite a bit over the centuries and is now becoming enlarged again to normal size. Humanity will then begin to have visions and to walk and talk with this other world, as we did before. if it is not the pineal gland I'd like someone to tell me which gland is there please!
thanks for the chat Elanor, I guess I'm long winded today but nice to meet you! love, alysia

Here is an experience that relates to astral projection and my thoughts about astral projection (not completely my own).

In Rosalind Mcknight's book Cosmic Journeys, it is stated that we have physical, etheric (typically experienced when we go out of body and walk about our room), emotional (astral), mental, and spiritual bodies. When we go out of body, we don't actually travel outwards, but inwards. I've had experiences which suggest this is true. After many years of going out of body, Robert Monroe found that this is true. What happens is that because our vibrational rate increases, a sense of movement is created.

As I stated on an earlier post, there used to be a time I would go out of body with all the effects. The vibrational state would occur, I'd feel myself shoot out of my body, I'd hear, see and feel myself fly around. In my case, eventhough I'd see the place I was flying around in, I wouldn't lose consciousness of my body. I'd be aware of both things at the same time. This was a clue that I wasn't actually traveling somewhere in a physical, linear sense.

Eventually things evolved to where I travel about in my mental body.  The effects of astral body travel aren't included, even though sometimes I'll travel over a realm and experience a sense of movement.

To a certain degree I experience the effects when a dream becomes lucid and leads to an out of body experience. For example, last night I had a dream where I was at an aunt and uncle's house. This house was a very large house and was connected to a mall.  Due to a previous dream, I could tell that their house was a symbol for my disk/I-there/soul group.  My aunt and uncle were meant to represent my spiritual family members. During one part of the dream I was laying in bed, and it became lucid. I went into a state of being where the energy I felt caused me to have that feeling that one gets when they fly around astrally; however, in this case I didn't fly around! I could also feel PUL.  I was shown beautiful landscapes of a valley in a very clear way. These valleys were occupied by spirits I didn't see.  Everything was landscaped in an intricate manner including the architecture. It is possible that this was a part of focus 27.  Before I went to sleep I thought about wanting to see focus 27. Because of the way this experience occurred, I believe that both my emotional (astral) and mental bodies were involved.

The main point I'm trying to make, is that everything can be found within.

[quote Albert:

In Rosalind Mcknight's book Cosmic Journeys, it is stated that we have physical, etheric (typically experienced when we go out of body and walk about our room), emotional (astral), mental, and spiritual bodies. When we go out of body, we don't actually travel outwards, but inwards. I've had experiences which suggest this is true. After many years of going out of body, Robert Monroe found that this is true. What happens is that because our vibrational rate increases, a sense of movement is created.

thanks Albert. I'll buy this. I'll take it one step further, that there is nothing out there. just as the kingdom of god is within, everything that is seeming "out there" is really all "in here." because time and space is something our mind is projecting as "out there."
objects are energy in vibrational form also. therefore, objects are no more eternal and solid than our bodies. the way I see it, my mind and soul and spirit is activated through my sensory apparatus, take the eyes for instance; we can readily understand the retina and see it as a camera lens. we can also see the mind as a type of video which records a movie. remember when we were kids we went to the movies?
we looked up and saw two beams of light projecting onto this huge screen a movie.
that is how I see the human eye, projecting that there is something "out there."

we all know the movie we are attending is just on the screen, is not really real, but we get into it anyway and forget ourselves while watching it.

and also, I have seen light streaming out of the eye sockets of others occassionally, as well when I went within on several occassions, I did see this light coming from my eyes as well to explain to me, I was also this light.
___

As I stated on an earlier post, there used to be a time I would go out of body with all the effects. The vibrational state would occur, I'd feel myself shoot out of my body, I'd hear, see and feel myself fly around. In my case, eventhough I'd see the place I was flying around in, I wouldn't lose consciousness of my body. I'd be aware of both things at the same time. This was a clue that I wasn't actually traveling somewhere in a physical, linear sense.
___
that is a very good definition, about the increase in vibration. I think the travel sensation however, is needed by the brain interpretation process in order to shift one's focus to another area of being. we are so used to this kind of reality where in order to "get somewhere else" we travel to this place through space and time. and I hear on the spirit levels, we still have the option of seeming to travel somewhere, or we can be "instantly" arriving as the choice is given.
_____

Eventually things evolved to where I travel about in my mental body.  The effects of astral body travel aren't included, even though sometimes I'll travel over a realm and experience a sense of movement.
____
my higher self of which I am a bit like her puppet, will sometimes give me body sensations, or effects of astral travel combined with mental travel. these are usually life changing events though and rarely happen, so they are all the more special when they do occur as I know I will learn something I'm supposed to learn or I may be needed somewhere, or it might be a choice to participate this way. The experience of lucidity when out of the physical C1 mind, is something precious and different for each of us as individuals. It is like, I remember, for the first time I felt I was free, within my soul, an unlimited being, more of myself, the universe was grand, elation and majesty was there, like touching the face of god and being smiled at by him...it is not something we should ever cheapen..each of us is a part of god and each realization of our greater being, howsoever it arrives is important and I celebrate our differences in perception of our greater selves.
_____

""I agree again.  Even though I'm not a person who gets involved with motion sports such as skiing, I think the sense of motion one gets when traveling astrally is rather fun. Especially when you hear and feel the energy brushing up against you. Plus, when I've done so I've never been completely certain of where I was going, and it was interesting and fun to see where I ended up.""

""Regarding the frequency with which you travel, it is similar for me.  I don't seek to go out of body as frequently as somebody such as Out of Body Dude does (what an appropriate name).  I'm not a trail setting John Muir type like Robert Monroe or Bruce Moen.  When I travel it tends to be for particular reasons, even though I believe my higher self showed me the scenery I saw last night just to be nice.  Speeking of nice, nice Smiley experience you described above.""
