Reiki, healing hands, the power of touch
Aug 20th, 2007 at 3:38pm

Over the years I have noticed that I have an ability to do good works of a sort of helping/healing(? not the right word) or comfort by the laying of my hands and/or with massage. I have never recieved training of any kind in either. For years just by putting my hands on my mother feet. ( she was crippled from birth with CP) she felt relief from pain. My hands always feel extremely warm and even more so when I am passing energy in these ways. IE massage or just touching or lay of my hands. When at Roberts Mountain Retreat (TMI's other site) I met Rosaland Mc Knight, an early explorer who worked with Bob Monroe, and while she was autographing one of her book for me I put my hands on her neck and shoulders. She told me of how good it was feeling and how she could feel healing going on just from the touch. Heat comming from my hands that was helping her feel good. It was a good affirmation for me that I have some kind of ability to help by doing this simple act of a laying of my hands on a person.
Is this a Reiki thing? Do others have this ability and thats why they go into Reiki?  I know there are many masters here. What do you think?

Hi Joe

I did Reiki 1 and felt that I had some ability.  Then I did Gateway and on returning that really opened me up.  For me, this is more hands-on healing - I call it Reiki for want of a better term so that people understand.

It really is good when you get feedback.  I only work on friends and some are more receptive than others.  There is one particular friend that I work with and what is happening between us is amazing - to say the least.  It goes far beyond conventional reiki and is opening up a whole new world for me with regard to hands-on healing.  Every session is different.

Healing is simple - INTENTION is the only tool you really need.  Once you place intention to facilitate healing, it just happens.  As long as you believe in what you do and the person you work on has an open mind about it - it will work - 100%.  I place intention that the person I work with receives healing for whatever their needs - be it physical, intellectual, spiritual, mental or emotional.  Sometimes they tell me that they have a sore knee and want me to help.  I never go into it believing that we are working on a particular area - I trust that Guidance/Spirit will give them healing for wherever they need it - the sore knee may be a symptom of something else - its not for me to know.  So I just trust.

with love
Irene

Hi Joe I do this too, was taught a few aura clearing techniques in the spiritualist church back in late 60's and used the hands on my children, as you say, the warmth is there and as Irene says, I didn't concentrate on what ails them, trusting spirit to direct the healing. learned early on the general public doesn't believe in it; also learned that spirit directs us to certain people and if it's right, you just go with it.
its possible if there are upheavals in the future we may be called upon to be using the hands so I told my guides I would be available. although I was hoping I wouldn't be needed in that capacity. diehard optimist here.

from what I understand we all can develop healing abilities in one way or another, as even speaking the word can be healing; you just don't know how spirit is going to enact a healing. no, you're not alone. thanks for showing up! Smiley

Yes, we all have the power to channel healing energy. Be very careful if you say you heal - that is your ego taking over - because you do not. It is the transmission of Universal Life Force Energy (ULFE) to the receiver who heals themself.

As a Reiki Master/Teacher I would add that being attuned to Reiki allows you to absorb much more life force energy. The Reiki method vitalises your life force, opens the inner healing channel much more and balances the chakras and energies in you, whereby the ULFE flows in a concentrated form through the hands of the Reiki giver. During this, no energy is actually taken from the giver who, at the same time, also benefits immensely.
The Reiki attunements stay with you for life, even if you don`t use Reiki for a long time and decide to restart.

I suppose a simple analogy would be that the channelling capability of an un-attuned person is, say, like a 40 watt light bulb, whereas an attuned person is like a 200 watt light bulb.
As black panther says, in any healing channelling, intent is very important. For my own perspective I am certainly glad I was attuned as it totally changed my life and enabled me to move on spiritually.

Roger

I'm glad that you reinforced the mistaken notion that some people have that they can "heal".  I always remind friends who ask for healing that I only facilitate healing - to enable them to heal themselves.  I am very very careful to make sure that I don't consider myself a "healer" - I am only the "facilitator" of healing.  I think that is a very important reminder to us all.

Love

I think I understand better. Roger, Rosie mentioned the healing part, not myself. I understand what you are saying re ego and healing. i am not a healer, nor do I want to protray myself as one.  My intention is and remains comfort and love energy. Lets save the "healing" for some of those avangelistic preachers that show up on the TV. Or sometime here. Wink Not to mention any name ---. OOps. Poke Poke. Just kidding.

It seems to me that some people naturally have some positive energy in their touch and that may be analagous to Reiki but might also be a little different.

It is nice you have chosen to use it as a gift. I had a coworker once who was aggressively ambitious in our particular endeavor. I did not think of her as the nicest person in the group. She came from another culture and I attributed that origin to her ease of touching others on the forearms or shoulder. What was surprising was the affect her touch had on me. It was very soothing. It was not at all a sexual thing but very nice. The effect reminded me of when my sibs and I were kids and used to lightly "tickle" each others' backs because it felt so nice and soothing. I wondered if my co-worker subconciously used her touch to manipulate people. I don't think she ever studied Reiki.

what I learned about JC, is he always told the person who was healed "your faith has made you whole." thats the simplicity of it. Your faith DOES make you whole.
so if I were to practice this on occassion I always had to ask them first; you just don't go around thinking that you do anything to anyone of yourself. the healer of Reiki or the healer of faith or even the retriever has no power to do anything; it's the joining of spirit to spirit and what goes between that is the power not of us, but thru us.

we are co-creators with god, of the same stuff JC was made of. we are the light when we surrender all ego desires and belief systems of self agrandizement. He always wanted us to know we would do the things he did. We would get there at his level. and we are getting there when we accept we are one with god.

there must be spirit directive in these endeavors as only spirit knows when the ill person needs to remain with their illness..we cannot do it by ourselves but must allow them to accept healing of their own decision, its like choosing life. I knew a man who chose death, so he is in control. well, I knew two of them. they choose to let it take them out. as a healer I could not heal, as its their choice, we have free will.

their choices have nothing to do with mine. I am not responsible in other words. The divine is responsible. There is actually nothing to heal here. Illness is a temporary illusion, suffering is our own choice in myriad form, the experience is for overcoming and strengthening and full self realization.
charlatan healing is kindergarten baby steps, we should not be judgmental about it.
Spiritual pride is what one needs to guard against, when you begin to develop your healing capacities.
compassion comes when you stop judging others for judging you.

love, alysia

Alysia, I like and agree with what you write.

As an aside, personally, I never volunteer to give someone Reiki - they always have to ask me. I`ve even been asked by total sceptics who have changed their minds about it after having a session. The important thing is that they have an open mind and, obviously, are willing to accept Reiki since they have asked.
Also, I was taught it is important that an exchange afterwards is made by the receiver. This can be something as simple as a hug, kiss, money or whatever. One lady always used to bring me a lovely home made cake as I never charged for a session. I believe Reiki is something which should be easily shared.

I totally believe in Reiki as I myself was treated by a dear friend Reiki style in my conscious astral body. this person never told me he was a master until much later.
what I perceived was PUL emanating from his aura, and PUL is very healing. anyway, changed my life. love heals if it doesn't want anything in return.
we all want to give something back though, even if it's just gratitude, or if we can put the gratitude into the money exchange, good idea, or a cake! love it! Smiley

hawkeye, of all the books I have read on Reiki I think the best are by Tanmaya Honervogt.
You can find more details by clicking on her website at http://www.tanmaya.info/ or, alternatively visit amazon.co.uk and put her name in the books search.
Hope that helps.

My experience of spiritual healing is very positive too. I did a series of sessions quite a few years ago with a lady who worked with the aura and by acting as a conduit for spirit/PUL or whatever - she simply stood by and worked with her hands at a short distance over the body in what I think is not far off reiki style.

I could feel something happening, and it eventually triggered a major emotional melt down (sobs, shaking, tears, the lot)  - which proved to be the start of my letting go of some fairly major issues I'd been carrying regarding my parents.

A really important step, one which also led to some back pain problems I'd been having fading and to a major change in my standing posture. (my back straightened)

I developed the habit of arriving early for my sessions and spending maybe 25 min getting centred by meditating sitting in a chair while waiting. Which with I'm sure her help (it happened while she was working on me) produced my first ever fully eyes open conscious experience.

The light in the room turned pinkish in shade. (like looking through a pink plastic film) After perhaps five minutes this light gathered itself into this incredibly beautiful pinkish purplish basketball sized globe of shimmering, slowly rotating energy which sat maybe 40 inches in front of me and slightly above eye level. Accompanied by the PUL feeling. It sat there for about five minutes, and then faded. I couldn't bring it back, and the lady didn't see it.

While it didn't seem to have produced effects at the time it left me emotionally wide open  - about ten minutes after leaving (I presumed by coincidence) there was this guy who looked like a South American indian (he was from Peru) playing a set of reed pipes that looked like pan pipes. (busking for money) It sounded so incredibly hauntingly beautiful - tears again everywhere. Wish I had had the presence to speak to him....

To this day I've no idea what the light/ball was, but it actually was the start of my starting to open, to change. (I'd been meditating for probably ten years at that point, but had never experienced anything more out of the ordinary than conventionally calming effects....

Hi Vajra you are a fount verily of spiritual experiences, I wish to thank you again for sharing!
just briefly to share myself, I used to be with a group in my late teens, early 20's, and we were new, we called ourselves the church of the seven rays, which are colors.
the pink ray is the ray of love. the purple is a transmutation ray. each individual is said to incarnate within a ray color of predominance. the healer was working with love for your healing. the transmution or purple ray will take what is negative, hurtful and change it so that your back could "straighten" up.

while working in this area our teachers said back problems were because a person wanted to run away from something. they were said to have to get a strong backbone as their life lesson. this happened to me too! a chiropractor even said I would have back problems in age as there something not in alignment normally, whatever. I did have a few problems, slipped discs, but they were healed similar to the way yours was healed, spiritually speaking. One of my now group, like a close friend,  followed my astral body back to my physical body and made some adjustments, sounded like a train moving over my vertebrae one time, and there was two adjustments at different times, or healings for which I have undying gratitude, and this friend was not the Reiki master I mentioned before, but the experience was one of PUL, sort of two buddies playing, he rumbled his healing train energy up and down my weak back, I'll be ok if I don't try to lift waterbeds or pianos! the psychological reason for my back problems were more of a gradual over a lifetime meditation session, had parent issues also, like you.  I also been on crying jags during different periods of life, which are so cleansing. we should let ourselves cry, it is leading up to healing to do so, as we are not alone when we cry, there are guides.
crying is not weakness as might be supposed by society. my crying jags were from reading A Course in Miracles and for the first time I cried from not sadness but happiness! I just couldn't stop crying, so that way I began to feel reborn and opened my eyes one day and all my soul had come to me and everything was new.
this was what they meant to be reborn, in Christianity, however, I was not your usual Christian. I considered myself just a spiritual/philsopher, I am very independent, my suitcases are even packed at this moment! Smiley (moving) (again)

In closing, we never know what the next day will be like. whether we shall even be here on the next day, and whether the internet will blow up. that sort of thing. so I wanted to mention retrievals, learning how to do them is the most healing act out of all the healing arts that I have ever studied, although we need them all.
the reason being, is when you help another part of life to lift them from what is not abundant life, as in stuckness where they are, this promotes the ideal of service to one another, as in promoting PUL, a viable life force/energy of which each person is made up of, when the personality/ego is shucked off, to mean the negative portions of that which do not serve equalibrium among humanity.
In this concept of Oneness, I merged my field with the other vibration and allow a portal action and both retrievee and retriever are freed, and lifted to greater life force. On these other levels we find we are all One and what can be burned off is dross of heaviness of thoughts and feelings which no longer serve.

thanks again for all you contribute here, if not for all of you, I would have nothing to say about anything!  Smiley
