music to reach out?
Aug 16th, 2007 at 5:29pm

Hey there,

I have never tried out binaural sound patterns, but just want to ask if anyone has experiences or advices to share, what music could also be used to reach out.

As I am more into punk/ metal and goth music (my "everyday" music), I just discovered classical music, and also some music from the romantic art phase (like Schubert) and also barock music (Bach, I listened first to his St. Matthews Passion in music class, and was so impressed that I had to get this one, it is an amazing listening experience and opens up your mind if you listen closely), I found out, that the classical stuff gets you in a state (while listening) where your mind is very recepetive for transcendental/ metaphysical matters. Also tried meditation on them, but the music is too "mighty" and always gets the attention. It worked with impressionistic music (for example "voiles" by Claude Debussy).

What also seems to be perfect is some 68 stuff ( Cheesy), or music by sitar players (what makes a strong impression, and is on the otherhand relaxing and mind-freeing)

I also tried reaching out on goa trance (not on any psychodelic substances that are related to the scene), and I could really leave myself behind and it felt like an access to a higher sphere of sharing conscious actions, like the universe is answering all the recent questions on the mind.

So I am just curious and very interested in what your impressions about music and reaching out are.

Love,

pulsar

No doubt, music can lift you up, can take you far beyond your normal physical "functioning mode". "Mighty" is a good word to describe it. As you talked of Bach's Mathhew's Passion, the complete work is a bit too lengthy for me, but "Erbarme Dich" is a really, really heavy impact! I can't listen it often as it is so moving (it should not been performed too fastly like it is often the case in classical music). Or, talking about late 60s (or was it early 70s?) music, I listened to Iron Butterfly's "In A Gadda Da Vida" after researching some things from the Qabbalah, and having beer and pot, and the long improvisation part really took me somehow deeper into the understanding of the stuff I studied.

So, it's mighty and can bring extraordinary euphoric states. But that's only one half of reaching out. It gives you an impression of the greatness of the creation, but not how to handle it, how to make sense of it, and how to become an agent in this greater reality which has flashed open briefly in this moments of euphoria.
You mentioned Sitar music. That's we could call the next step. We had the euphoria, and now we have to harbor it, control it and make something out of it, and on this behalf we have to get balanced, calm down, and view emotions from a distance. Like floating in peace on the smooth waves of this sort of music. So called "New Age Music" is similar, usually more simple. Some call it boring, but when you want to relax, maybe go on a mind journey, it's just the right stuff.
Then there are those sound patterns specifically designed to get you into some sort of trance or consciousness state, as binaural or monaural beats. (There are differing opinions which are more effective) Hemi-Sync, Neural Noise, Shaman's drumming for example. I only checked out HemiSync, and it works very good. For specific experiences an additional verbal guidance is recommended, if one is not already trained in this sort of journeying.
Finally, when you have come to the conclusion that pink noise/tree's hiss is the ultimate stuff  Wink you look forward to face silence- or should I say to hear silence? and be able to bear it.

Hey spooky,

thanks for replying.

Some songs that were a blast of an experience: Riders on the Storm by The Doors, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds by The Beatles, Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, Knocking On Heavens Door by Bob Dylan,
songs, that gave the opportunity to float without setting intention on reaching out, or let the thoughts pass by.

Euphoria is maybe an interesting feeling, or just lets you sit around with an open mouth (woahhh..astonishing..) but you are right, sometimes it is just a hurdle in mind like overwhelming fears you cannot resist. Maybe it is better to resemble ones thoughts after listening to music, that leads up to euphoria, and maybe try to go e.g. oob or on a meditation, to put the impressions in the right order, to make it more accessable and more verifiable for oneself. The intention of what one shall feel like is set up by the composer of the music, so to say, he had his/her enlightening sign before he/she made it a piece of music, and the listener is the one that needs to take the deeper look to get the meaning of what he heard, and what he has to do with this impression, so we could really talk about this as spiritual growth (so that a humanbeing is able to reach out more and more, maybe driven by key ideas about the creation he got in a state of euphoria, and after he made this pile of thoughts a senseful picture, he is able to get deeper into the matter.)
The idea of using sitar music as a step to calm down to harbour the thoughts (maybe it is a better way then the one I mentioned, to sit down by yourself and try to make a picture of the bits of euphoric thoughts, that you remember after turning your classical (or whatever) piece of music mute.) It is much like to have a tool to slowly step down from this euphoric state, collecting your thoughts and impression, and at the end of your music "trip" to the spiritual place, you have a picture in your head, that the brain can handle.
But sitar music to have sitar music while trying to reach out, you wouldn't get trapped that easy in any kind of emotional state of mind (neiter euphoric nor depressive), as it is balanced, and for itself more of a "sweet leaving".

What I think would also work (what I also got to know in music class) if you connect a speaker with a sinus generator and go with the flow (maybe I could also try out the "flanger" mode of my guitar amp).
I'll try the HemiSync method, just to see how far I can go, the further, the better.

Great songs indeed, especially "Riders On The Storm" is an all time favorite of mine.

Sinus generator? I guess I would stand that for no longer than 10 seconds or so... except the sinus tones are not played loudly, like in hemi-sync.

When you have a guitar amp, you maybe have a tremolo effect (volume altering), well when I listen to that, after some time I feel rather strange. It's nothing else than a form of monaural beats. Feels not very good though, maybe with some experimenting with rate & depth it could be used.

Hi Spooky and Pulsar. I have some mellow music to write by, like Enya, Pachelbel, Canon in D, native American Flute and guitar, etc. if the beat is not too driven in these new age tunes, then it's a good avenue to enter some memories you have. of the spirit world.

some certain tones or notes have ability to make you phase and you can't think a thought while phased, just feel it, and then the same thing happens I surmise with hemisync that a balance occurs in a quiet place.

Pulsar I saw you last night, you were singing me a song. do you play the guitar? u had one. thanks anyway. of course u won't remember, thats ok. I know what I saw! Smiley

Listened to Erbarme Dich last night.  Very nice.  Thanks for the recommendation., Spooky.  I saved Iron Butterfly for today.  Somehow it didn't seem to fit in right after listening to Bach.

Haven't listened to sitar music in ages.  Anyone know an album name or artist that I can use to download some?

Thanks - Rob.

Haha, you may be right. I like most the trebly organ in "In A Gadda Da Vida".

Sounds like the old days Alysia, three of us in a car making music. I dreamt a few days ago I was playing guitar with others and had a cool repeating pattern running, but for some reason I couldn't play in the way I wanted to, too little volume or so. Then I suspected the others will steal the tune I had just invented   Tongue !

Hi Spooky. I interpreted it like a PE, the dream I mean. Pulsar has been posting so he's "at the front of the car, which is the board. meaning he initiates a lot of posts.
I'm in back seat as I like to ride in back, let others post their thoughts.
since he was playing guitar and singing a song, then he went and posted this music thread, same idea. we always sings when we post. we're singing our song.

then he looked in the window and sang closer to my ear.
well ta ta. by the way please someone tell me what in a gadda da vida means. Vida means life, right?

love, alysia

Hey Alysia,

I am always impressed by the way you are able to kinf of "predict" happenings with knowledge comming from intentions. Have to add that I play the guitar in awakening state Smiley.

Hi Rob

I don't as such listen to sitar music but do know that the all time great for playing sitar is Ravi Shankar.  He was one of the first to teach George Harrison to play the sitar well back in the "old days"!!

Hi Pulsar these dreams starting coming more frequently in 1999 to now..I used to feel a little threatened by them but they are so much about daily affairs, I am used to them and enjoy it very much. I play a little guitar too! but if you give a listen at myspace you can see I am not very good at it. I would like to learn keyboards or even harp, but not sitar, I don't think I could, too many strings?

my husband, on other side bought a sitar once and I wished he would play it, but he just put it on the wall..hmmm...I thought maybe he had an Indian life once where he played it.
Interesting that you do play the guitar, how surprised I felt in the dream to see one in your hands! I was thinking..hmm..I wonder how good he is at it? so I got myself a hit, and now you all know the basic nature of PE is to get a little hit like this and I do believe we can all do it if we want to. I didn't set an intention...my intentions are sort of like having a "people interest" meeting folks here makes me very curious about them and I feel like I have new friends and like spending a little time with them here on the board, so perhaps that is an intention on some level and comes true in the astral vallys of consciousness.
Hi Irene, good to wave at you awakened one! Irene and I have met out there and she is my soul sister forever because I love her. someday I could repost the story if she doesnt mind.

I am starting a new life in arizona soon so I have to spend every moment with my children here before I leave. it makes me sad but I'm happy too.

love, alysia
