Hi Daisymae-
If you'd like to do this yourself, be your own hypnotist. Otherwise make certain that your hired hypnotist has some kind of training in regression.
You are quite correct that the verbal and cognitive reconstruction of an event rarely "feels the same" as the event. This is due to distortions in the way we internally code for memory. To return to the same emotional level it is necessary to relax away the inhibiting factors (desire, fear, confusion etc) and then recall the event on a more or less pictorial level, because at that time you had minimal language. What you can expect is a series of images that are poorly connected, but that carry the flow of the event.
Somewhere on my web site
mbs-hypnoclinic.com I have a brief set of instructions for hypnotic regression. There's also a booklet available from Lulu with similar information. The process is simple, get a good and trusted friend to give you the instructions for relaxation. Practice a couple of times just relaxing and returning to normal function. Then the third time, your friend can suggest that you return to a few moments BEFORE the event, and to watch it happen. That way you don't have to buck a tide of opinions after the fact.
Having mastered that procedure, literally "going into trance", you'll notice that all the hypnotic talk etc is window dressing, and all you need to do is to simply relax away all the stuff of the world. That means that you learn self-hypnosis as a side effect, and, since hypnosis is only meditation, you have developed a meditative skill. You are now ready to continue with Bruce's regime of soul rescues, if that appeals, since that seems to be the best presently available path to increased spiritual competency.
Hope this is useful-
