Kundalini--natural equivalent of psychadelics? I don't know if I'd put it that way.  It is a creative energy that will connect you to the World of spirit once it makes its way through your energy circuit.  Raise it if you're willing to be challenged and are sincere about working through your mental limitations and growing in love. I believe it is better to work on spiritual growth and to allow your kundalini to raise naturally if it becomes necessary for it to do so. If it raises, pray to God and ask for spiritual help. Layers of the mind that generally remain covered can become uncovered when kundalini arises.  You'll also become more aware of the World of spirit. You'll also have to be disciplined about what you put into your body, or your energy might become imbalanced. Healthy food, no drugs, no alchohol etc.

Thanks for complement - Maybe I should give you my wife's URL to repeat that. Smiley

There are a few pranayamas that might be useful - depends on whether you're interested in Kundalini, which is the natural equivalent of psychedelics. Classic references include Hatha Yoga Pradipika and of course Patanjali's Yoga Sutras.

A sampler of methods can be found in W Y Evans-Wentz book, Tibetan Yoga and Secret Doctrines. In the original, C G Jung did a preface, and Evans-Wentz and his translator have done a pretty good explanatory job. It's an abridged version, but decent.

Enjoy-
dave

The wife occasionally gives me static - it's her job, I think. Keeps the size of my head from expanding too much.

I went through the drug scene in the Haight-Ashbury days, and discovered that everything that could be done with chemicals can be done by meditation - with the one exception that meditation doesn't cause the abrupt appearance of iron bars. Kundalini is the energy that runs at the primary process level - emotional energy and basic life force. The direction of active meditation moves into that awareness by stirring it up in a controlled manner, while the direction of passive meditation brings the same awareness by removing the alternatives.

Recoverer is right, that if we simply keep on with normal development, kundalini energy and the corresponding awarenesses on that level will arise in a natural and controlled manner with no effort and usually without disturbance to a normal lifestyle. But I was one of those who wanted to push the envelope, and instead of using chemicals that make the body go into an existential crisis, the methods of "kundalini yoga" (a misnomer) do much the same thing without  depriving one of self control. Other paths to the same end include grief, intense love, panic, spiritual experiences etc. The African tribal trance dancing that goes on for a day or two is another meathod of doing the same thing.

Personally, now that I'm long past the days of my more toxic habits, I sometimes use kundalini methods to pick up a litle extra energy during the day. Since everything looks like God anyway, there's no real dissonance, and it fits in whith my practice in hypnosis and regression.  Might not be the best idea whle driving or during a class etc.
