Our deepest fear..
May 5th, 2007 at 8:46pm

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Fear is an emotion. The emotion comes from an idea that is in your mind. It really does not matter what idea is in your mind which is generating this emotion of fear. It can be anything....it can seem to be nothing, but if you examine your mind you will see that the fear is always generated by an idea that is in your mind.

That is human.

So, it is also human to feel this emotion...fear....just as it is human to feel anger....or sadness....or love....or joy.....or gratitude.

But, if in your body, which contains your human mind, you are feeling the emotion of fear, then you are actually closer to Source.  It is the emotion that takes you closer to Source, the emotion which will turn your eyes toward Source, All That Is, the great I of which you are a part....and it is a part of you.

When you sit in quiet meditation, see how it might feel to release the fear. If you need to, visualize a ball of light near you which is a sphere radiant with love.

Feel the love from this sphere and let the light enter your body and travel all over inside of you, up and down, in and out.  Feel how your body relaxes in this light of love.

Give the fear to the Presence of Love. This Presence of Love can absorb all of your fear. It can float away with your fear and leave you clear and refreshed.

The mind is not you. The fear is not you. Underneath the mind and the emotions which we consider to be ourselves is the real us.

If you can separate yourself from this emotion, you will be free. If you can recognize that this fear is not you, you will be free.

It is like that with all emotions. All attachments.

We all want to find peace and happiness and freedom, and it is always within us. Each day is a new day and each moment is a new moment,

a new day, a new moment in which we do not have to live in fear.

We can recognize negativity in all of its forms because it causes us discomfort and pain. Feel it, then put it away from you.  It is not you.

There is an anonymous poem that says "you are a child of the universe....you have a right to be here," and when you believe it, you will walk boldly, in love, in gratitude, in patience, in willingness, in surrender to be of service, and happiness will be yours.

Today I have felt many emotions. Some happiness, some sadness, some loneliness, some fear. But they are not me. And therefore, I am glad to be alive.

And when I die, I trust that I will be glad to be....the real me.

And this is what I wish for each of you, and I trust that it will be so.

love, blink Smiley

Right on, Blink.

I think it was Shakespeare who said (perhaps in Hamlet?) "A coward dies a thousand times, a brave man dies but once." Just so, we sometimes entertain anxieties. One solution is to meditate and transcend them. Another is to simply not believe them, an act of will. And, of course, we need not pay unnecessary attention to them. Meditation allows going beyond, so that has been my personal solution, and I'd recommend it.
