Why are geeks atheists?
http://m4th.com/Articles/Why-are-geeks-often-atheists.php

Part of the problem is that defining spirituality is like defining love.
We all know love exists, but it cannot be quantified or defined.
We all know that our very existence is dependent on this love, even our 'creation'.
Yet, it is purely experiential.
Something geeks often lack.

Greetings,

From these good people here I've learned that love can be shared, experienced as part of the 'cosmic order.' We don't have to wait until someone offers love to us, and we don't have to fall for the hype from Hollywood or NY regarding who is worthwhile to love.  Rather it's a glow of energy that permeates every aspect of a person that will increase their ability to share love with others and to accept, even love, who they and we ourselves are.
When we offer PUL to the Creation, PUL will be returned.
Have you read Bruce's ideas on how to generate PUL-- Pure Unconditional Love?  It works!

At a more practical level, at the class reunions I've attended, the 'geeks' were as loved, as happy and successful, or more so, than some of the school stars who had appealed to our more immature values. In my area this change took at least fifteen years after graduation and it shows more strongly with each reunion.

I'd mistakenly set up a life with minimal human love, something I thought I had to experience apparently. But no longer can I say this life is loveless.
Try telling your Higher Self in a calm and convinced way that you are ready to experience and share unconditional love; see what happens.

Love, bets

well, hmmm. I like geeks I guess. had a geek boyfriend once. they are not so different from non-geeks. geeks can believe in love even if they don't believe in god and say they are atheist. but there are no atheists in truth. if you deny god is, you are still obsessed to deny what you don't believe in. what I mean is denial often brings in the opposite kind of experience as the more you push something away the more it pops up in front of you. a true geek needs to read poetry to get in touch with the right side of the brain...and if you have a geek for a boyfriend, ladies, you have to train them to bring flowers now and then.

Smiley  now this geek I loved only as much as I could. he died. I told him there is an afterlife silly boy. he said, well I can't be bothered with an afterlife study. so when he died he came back to me and said, well, you were right afterall, there is an afterlife Wink

love, alysia

Being an atheist might be a response to religion rather than to spirituality. Religion is pretty illogical.

Churches are useful for the cultural function they provide: a social structure and connection for like-minded people.

Geeks, being logical and not being part of that social structure, might naturally eschew religion.

I thought some of the people in "What the Bleep..." were geekish but they seemed interested in spirituality.

Itis difficult for us logical types to relate to non-logical types because, well, frankly, we allaren't always on the same page. But the non-logical types outnumber...

I can't remember what Temple Granden has written, if anything, about interest in religion or spirituality. But she genetically lacks the emotional stuff most people have. Wonder what she experiences spiritually. I think some geeks are borderline asperger's so I don't think this point is irrelevent.

what does asperger mean? Smiley this friend of mine was just as you say, not religious and attended a scientific church for social reasons only. he couldn't understand why the whole world did not get excited about his logical speeches. I decided after awhile, he must be a pixie soul. part of the nature kingdom incarnated for the first time as his innocense was complete. not logical deduction to make, but he reminded me of that, because he didn't seem real.

Asperger syndrome used to be grouped with autism but it seems to me to be a little different; here's a more technical definition. As usual, there is not total agreement with the description.

http://www.aspergers.com/aspclin.htm

Temple Grandin was labeled autistic but maybe the less severe asperger's syndrome would better describe her ...situation. Temple Grandin is pretty interesting but don't think most autistic individuals can reach her level.

http://www.templegrandin.com/

People have talked about the fact that some geek types seem to exhibit some of the characteristics of folks with asperger's syndrome.

I think Temple Grandin is really interesting but she is exceptionally intelligent and good at self-description. Now I am curious as to what she thinks about spirituality.
