boy revived after heart stopped beating for 4 days

Article from CNN today:

NEW YORK (AP) -- Daniel Walker was on his final lap jogging in his high school gym class when he collapsed, his flawed heart giving out on him.

More than four days later, his heart at a standstill, kept alive by a bypass machine, it began beating again. The 17-year-old's parents called it divine intervention. His physicians were no less amazed.

"I've been a surgeon for 10 years, and this is probably one of the most incredible things I've ever seen," said Dr. Abeel Mangi, one of Walker's cardiac surgeons at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia.

Walker's father described his son's recovery in spiritual terms. "God turned around, put His hand on my son, and recharged him," said William Walker, 58, a retired sanitation worker.

His son's ordeal began January 19 when he collapsed in gym class. The younger Walker suffered from a rare congenital heart flaw that left his coronary artery pinched, giving him only 10 percent of normal heart capacity. He was shuttled to two hospitals before finding himself at Columbia, waiting for a heart transplant, attached to the bypass machine.

Walker's cardiac surgeons said they could not account for the young man's recovery.

"It's a miracle," Mangi said. "There's really no other way to put it."

Two days after it began to beat on its own, surgeons were able to fix the flaw in Walker's heart, increasing its capacity to 60 percent.

I would sure like to hear what this fellow has to say about his experience....

Yes, it would be interesting to hear if he remembers anything those 4 days.  Hopefully he actually got to go out and explore and didn't just lay there bored out of his skull!

Once when I was knocked out for dental surgery I thought I was awake and aware the entire time.  I could see and hear everything that was done and said.  I was utterly bored that whole time.  But if I had known my state at the time I would have willed myself elsewhere and had some fun!

Another time when I had major surgery to remove a tumor from my lung I thought I was awake, having woke up right after the surgery.  It turned out I was still asleep from the anesthesia.  But all I did was lay there "in" my body, again bored out of my mind.  I remember hearing the nurses talking, then could hear my parents chatting on about trying to remember how to set up their camping tent for my 5-year-old nephew who had asked to camp out in the backyard that night.   (It was indeed a tricky tent).  I was so mad that here I was waking up from surgery and my parents were just casually talking about the tent!  Well, when I actually finally did wake up, I told my parents the correct way to set up the tent as they walked into my room.  They were shocked that I had known what they were talking about, but I told them they obviously must have been standing in the doorway or something.  But they had not been and were not even close to my room.  They were literally down the hall on the other side of the hospital and there was no way I could have merely physically heard them talking.  They verified exactly word for word what I heard them say.  So, I wonder why I was able to hear their conversation yet it was from the vantage point of my physical body.  It seems my visual sense was focused in my physical location and my hearing sense was focused in my parents' physical location.

Hi Vicky, thanks for sharing with us, most amazing. Seems the HS or soul can do wonders while the body just lingers waiting to come back.

It's so good to see you both here, Vicky and Ricardo.  Vicky, I agree, that's an amazing experience!  Thank you for sharing, and I will certainly keep the possibility of this kind of freedom in mind in case I am ever in a similar situation!
