When you meditate...

Do you ever hear things?

When you practice relaxation breathing and are stating your intent (the room is totally silent), do you hear anything unusual or do you see something unusual first?  I would think it'd be different for everyone.

Here's what happened to me last night:  As I lay there in bed practicing my breathing and trying to clear my mind I talked to my Dad and told him that I love him and miss him, and that I would love for him to come to me in my dreams soon.  I told him I will stay open to whatever sign of comfort he wanted to send me when he decided to do so.

A few minutes into this I totally started hearing soft musical notes in my left ear.  I didn't hear anything in my right ear, only my left.  It sounded like someone was on a keyboard playing one note at a time.  The notes didn't go down the musical scale in order or anything like that, it was simply random notes but they were very consistant.  Shocked

My 11 year old has a big keyboard under her bed but she was sound asleep when this happened.  Our furnace was running (it's in the 20's here) so other than that everything was quiet.

Any thoughts about this?  Any similar experiences?

Hi Kate,

I had this happen just the other night.  I was meditating with headphones, and could swear that there was music and voices in the room.  I kept taking off the hemisync tones and headphones to listen, but nothing new was there.  Not certain what that was about, but since it was around midnight, I decided it was being overtired and the combined effect of the hemisync tones, fishtank bubbling in the background and noise from the local heater.

Hi Kate,

Yes, it's nice isn't it?
I've heard choirs and pianos during meditation or occasionally at night when it wakes me up because I get curious about where it's coming from. These experiences are too rare!

Early in the morning in what science calls that hypnogogic state between waking and sleeping, I sometimes hear pop music, sometimes standards that have someone singing words that seem to carry a reassuring message for whatever is happening in my life at that time. Sometimes the words and music are new to me, nothing I've heard before, but when i concentrate on the words it seems like they are pertinent to my life.

The pop music happens more often than the big productions with grand chords, but I really like any!  I don't know how it happens but I'm very grateful for it.
