Is Reincarnation possible?
Jan 13th, 2007 at 12:30am

Just a thought here... when people die, is it possible for them to be reincarnated a few years later and start a new life on Earth as someone else?

Or when you die, you just go into the Afterlife and thats it?

-Option #1: Would be a scary prospect to a lot of traditionally-minded
people, or those who had their heart set on "eternal security."

-Option #2: Would be like George Orwell's "1984" to a lot of freedom-loving, risk-taking, pleasure-relishing types.

My hope? That both would be available as options (with oblivion
as a third) so nobody's style would be cramped while they watched
their neighbor's dreams come true. (If there is a "God", I hope he's not more of a killjoy, legal-beagle, or favorites-player than I am..!)

Yeah, I hope so too  Smiley

If reincarnation was indeed possible, do you think we would be able to choose who we would be in the next life, what we would look like, our ethnic background, who our parents are... etc?

Hi Sacredfire..first, welcome to the board!

I do believe reincarnation is possible.  And, I also believe that we choose certain life paths before incarnating here.  Most likely not all the details, but things such as who are our parents, what part of the world to live in and gender.

Contracts with others perhaps, to be partners, siblings, or just acquaintances. Smiley

Yes I am sure there is reincarnation.Iv had a lot of dreams that could only be past lives. And you know what,I think when we die,its like going to sleep and waking up as a new borne child. Most people would disagree with me on this, but I will ask you this.do you remember your last life time?George

Hi Sacredfire-
One possible interpretation of feedback from people who do explorations in the spirit world or report past lives tec, is that after this life we can, at least in theory, go into the spirit world,  become creative agents in our own proper right, which we share with God, and then stay there forever. What seens to happen is that we, ourselves, cling to material things through which we, ourselves, force our own rebirth into a state that more or less echoes our last time around.

The "echo" mechanism is karma, of course, and arises directly from our attitude through which we remain attached to the earthly plane.

This specific concept amuses me in particular, because it offers a way to understand both the "everlasting" nature of the afterlife (if we were only able to be everlasting) as well as the cyclic nature that leads from death to death.

There seems to be no special reason to prevent you from exploring this yourself - that is, by investigating the "spirit world", that rest will folow soon enough anyhow.

Perhaps a little off on a tangent but still in a similar vein to the original post

There are ideas that reality is a manifestation of the collective conciousness (I think I summed the idea up correctly there), I've always taken that to mean the collective real world conciousness, but what if its a creation of the afterlife or spiritual conciousness. Isn't it then entirely possible that someone could recreate themselves, if someone's indivual identity and will were strong enough.

Of course you could argue that the idea is a 'lifeline' for those who are scared of dying, the idea that they might be able to come back, but I prefer to think of it as a possibility and maybe a challenge that someone with that unique comibination of indivuality and willpower could do it.

I don't remember anything in my past life... but if theres any methods that could help me remember, I'd like to know  Smiley

And thanks again guys! This forums great!  Grin Life beyond death really is intriguing! At least I know that death does not mean the end, but perhaps a new beginning =]

As one who believes in "New Church" (aka Swedenborgian) theology, I don't believe in reincarnation in that everyone lives multiple lives, but there is a degree of truth to past life experiences. This page (be aware that there is background music so if you're in an environment where noise is unwanted, you'll want to turn the volume off) is a good overview of the beliefs on reincarnation I agree with:

http://www.egogahan.com/Spiritual%20Issues/rein.html

This is just one view on the subject though; you're free to believe whatever you wish, of course. Smiley

Also, it is not my intention to proselytize, of course. Smiley

PS: Swedenborgianism is a school of thought in theology, just as Calvinism or Lutheranism is, it's not some sort of fruity cult. ^^;
