My feeling about the below is that we all want to have the happiness, love and peace of our true selves. We get lost for a while and try to find what we inwardly know about and yearn for, through the limitations of our beliefs. When we find that our beliefs don't hold the key to what we're looking for, we look inside. Therefore, the yearning for fulfillment come first.

There are two ways of knowing things.  Either we try to figure things out intellectually because we want to limit what we understand according to the parameters of what goes along with our mind's limited ways of finding happiness, or we don't limit ourselves and understand according to comprehensive univeral mind knowledge, no matter what such a way of seeing reveals to us.

The question is, which came first, the desires or the beliefs?

What came first, the right brain or the left (i don't mean the actual physical brain parts, but rather the functions/perceptions each are connected to)?

Oft they go hand in hand, but they are not the same, and one did come before the other.

AhSo....I briefly came across in something I was reading recently... the idea that the right brain was "first" in development among humans. The left brain plays "catch up" in a way, and appears to struggle for dominance.

So, I would have to assume desire is born first (and desire is for? another good question, for desire seems to be uniquely satisfied with life experiences which answer questions which we are not always aware that we have....and so, the hand in hand)

....with beliefs being merely useful abstractions to be questioned on a case by case basis when it is tolerable to do so.

Recoverer, you said, among other things:
...or we don't limit ourselves and understand according to comprehensive univeral mind knowledge, no matter what such a way of seeing reveals to us.

I really love everything you just said, R.

...and so do the pink elephants flying around the room here...I can tell because of the big smiles on their faces...and the way they are singing that lovely song through their trunks....

...what, not everyone sees the pink elephants flying around here? What DO they see, I wonder?

Blink:

I don't see pink elephants because I don't desire to see them, nor am I opposed to seeing them.  It's when we're attached either way that mental formations tend to hang around.

I see what you are saying, R.....

So, to WHOM did you say these mental formations actually attach themselves?

Gosh, I seem awfully PINK today...I certainly didn't appear to be so pink yesterday....and I REFUSE to be this pink tomorrow!

Oh, but maybe pink is GOOD. I should wait and see what everyone else thinks of pink first.

Or should I?

After all, if they don't like pink I don't really know how to get this off of me, much less the trunk that is sure to appear very soon! And, if they do like pink, well, it doesn't GO with just ANY other color....certain colors have to STAY TOGETHER. Isn't that the RULE?

Where is my instruction manual? I really have to get this thing straight.  I mean, my entire AFTERLIFE could be hanging on this one very important decision!

Or is it?

Oh, dear.....back to the void, drawing table, whatever....I just DON'T want to see pink anymore right now.  I'm sure there's no pink THERE. In the void, I mean.

Or is there?

Blink:

Mental formations don't attach to us, we grab onto them. For whatever reason, we believe that they mean something.

I once had a dream about this subject, that interesting enough, had an elephant. Not a pink one. Sorry about that, but the same principles apply.

I was in a park. There was this really odd looking elephant like creature walking through it. He walked right over a little dog. The little dog showed no concern at all and didn't get hurt as the elephant stepped over him. Next he walked right over a little kid, the little kid showed no concern, and the elephant didn't hurt him. I became afraid of the elephant, hid behind a tree, and he came right after me.

Basically the elephant represented a fear based mental formation that was waiting for someone such as myself to give it some attention.

I've received a number of messages from my guidance stating that this is what happens when we get effected by unwanted thought patterns. We provide the power.

You give me much cud for chewing, wise one. I depart to sit under yonder tree to ponder what you have given me.
