Huh...never heard of the "ending up in China" part.  It's never really been believed, as far as I know, that Jesus was born on the 25th of December.  That's a taking over of the old pagan Yule celebrations, apparently.  Shepherd's wouldn't have been in the fields with their flocks at that time, among other things.  Since I doubt that the names of the months or the numbers of the dates were used then as they are today, you can't really say anything with certainty I don't think, but the church has never claimed he was born then, (that part of the church that designated that date Christmas...can't say if later churches adopted it as such), there is a specific place and time that it was decided to use that day, I can look it up if I get industrious.

I also heard that to recruit early christians, Dec 25th, a pagan holiday was chosen to be his birthday.  But what a wonderful holiday it is.  Peace and joy radiate from christmas, even if it is too commercial.  Hope enters the world.  Children and families are brought together.

In Judaism, Passover was the key holiday, I believe that held the people together - with a common bond and time for refleciton of how their ancestors were saved by God from the Pharoah, and how they themselves and their children were bound to celebrate this.  Christmas, in some ways does the same thing for the Christians.

What's most important is that God and Jesus exist and you can rely on them.

Each of us will find the true details about them when it is our time to do so.

Yes, Deanna..he was most likely born sometime in September.  But..its hard to "Dream of a White Christmas" in September, huh? Tongue

There are several holidays on December 25, among them Yule and Saturnalia..its a magical time of year, to be sure.

As to the wise men, it is believed that they actually visited when Jesus was around 2.  They followed a star in the east, rather than to the east.  It is also believed, in certain scientific circles, that there was a supernova at that time and that was the "bright star" that they followed.

It doesn't remove the "magic" at this time though..
