Greetings Cosmic,
Someone told me to avoid mirrors while OOB because one's sense of self gets altered or space or light sources get distorted or something like that.
But would it depend on which body/form one was out in?
In my college dorm upper bunk I once had a time travel OOBE where I found myself above a long banquet table filled with happy people dining. Sounds of tableware clinking and people laughing softly were what was first heard and I fllowed my curiosity. I recall thinking 'how embarrassing that I can be up here' and then holding on to a chandelier. Since my physical body is quite tall I don't think any layer/field closely resembling it could have fit draped around a light fixture, but it gave some stability to stay and watch a few moments. Then the diners began to look up so I popped away back in my own bed.
They were staring more to figure out what was going on than reacting to a human body up there, so I think that experience was seen from the outside as an orb.
(When I told my housemother about my dream she said the room had previously been a dining room when the house was owned by a family. The clothing of the people had been turn-of the 19th -- 20th Cs.)
So I think that rather than try an OOBE in front of a mirror, it might be better to ask for one in a situation where you could deduce from others around you how you are perceived.

"Oh look, Sue, there goes an orb!" would be a good hint.
