I am a member of a spiritual forum online. I was contacted via personal email by a new member.He joined only because he read my post and it had touched him deeply. He immediatly sent me 10 emails and included his number. I had only known him for a half an hour and I didn't reveal much about myself. In the last email of the day (email # 10) he claimed that he was falling in love with me more every minute. I found this strange, but I was curious so I kept in contact with him. He felt that he knew me from another life and that his spirit guides may have led him to the forum to find me. Throughout the past week we had been emailing each other back and forth everyday. He was actually quite intelligent and he was very knowledgable on spiritual matters so I enjoyed his messages. He thought sex was a "waste of time" and he devoted his whole life to "meditatation" and "godliness". He told me that he wanted to become an "Immortal" or a "Descended Master". It sounded to me like he wanted to become like jesus (ie walk on water, preform miracles).  In his emails he would often express affection (hugs and kisses). This morning he sent me an email that said he needed to terminate his email account because he "was being called to spend more time in meditation" and being "godly" and less time "chatting and writing to me". He said I am free to call him if I wanted to speak to him about becoming an "Immortal" but he would not call me because he has to "call to god". I felt rejected in a weird sort of way; as if he thought that I wasn't ''holly" enough to chat with (this could be just my perception). I try to be a good person and live  life as spiritually as possible (if that makes sense);however, I still try to balance this in between enjoying life and living in the moment as best as I can. In your opinion, is it possible for a person to go too far and get carried away with thier spiritual persuits? If one begins to isolate themselves from human contact and avoids leisure activities or intimate relationships with others could this be a sign of dicipline and devotion to ones belief in god; or could this be the behavior of a fanatic who takes things to the extreme? I do not want to come across as judgemental; but can one take their spiritual beliefes too far so that it reaches the point of an obsession? Is it better to have a balance? Where do we draw the line?

Actually none of us really knows the whole story concerning what the other guy is trying to work out in their current life but for some reason you two met (I believe there are no accidents) and he's given you the challenge of trying to figure out if you're on the wrong track and he's got the truth.  These are the kind of individuals who really make us work because they create self doubt.  They are our greatest teachers.    And if we're smart, we use them to spur us on to inquire just as you have done or get a little more insight into our own issues or to get to know someone else for the purpose of learning not to judge. Some individuals are at the point where they need to be "Fanatics" before achieving balance. 

Meanwhile, since we each are at different levels of growth and are unique yet the same, we need to look at these meetings and use them as indicators of where we've been, what issues we're working on, or which ones we've mastered so as to help, through compassion, the next guy.  Maybe this guy needed to have someone to tell that he is no longer a hacke'n around guy like most of us, or maybe you're unsure if you're on the right track, either way it's a Win/Win situation merely by having the courage to make contact with another individual.  And the real beauty of this type of intereaction is that you can easily walk away with the thought, "that was an interesting interlude" then let it go.

I am new to all this and forgive me if I do indeed sound 'judgemental.'  Reading your post - my first instinct says that you are well rid. I think the pursuit of anything can become the 'false god' when taken to an extreme. I am new to these 'forums' and visit very few - two, three in all. I have enough experience on the net though to know there are some people we are better without. Some very deceptive, manipulative types. A few words on a screen, or even a voice on a phone can make someone seem or sound like something, some one so far removed from the reality of who or what they truly are. It can be very dangerous. We can all leave ourselves open to feeling 'used' through the net - if we choose to or allow that to happen - cyber people in virtual worlds. See it for what it was, learn from it and forget it.

Like I say, I am new to all of this - so forgive my ignorance. What is a 'Descended Master' ?

I think perhaps when people use hi fallutin' terms like these to describe themselves - it says more about their ego than any real spiritual 'evolution'. Whomever or What ever Christ was, or is - when He was referred to as something as seemingly simple as 'good' - he countered it by saying that none are good but God. Wee bitta humility goes a long long way

addictive drug. Sounds like what we have here is somebody
who thinks he's found "the meaning of it all" but in reality
has turned into a "cosmic foo-foo" who will one day realize he's
just found another way of escape from reality. Oh well. At
least the DEA isn't going to hunt him down for THAT method
of getting high...
