Astral life-span...
Aug 9th, 2006 at 7:23pm

Hello, I am new to the board and have a question:

In the book titled, "Autobiography of a Yogi," Paramhansa Yogananda (whom introduced Kriya Yoga to the west) spoke of  direct communication with his diceased master whereby information pertaining to the astral world was revealed to him.  In the book, Yogananda writes that astral beings too must die and have a lifespan of between 500-1000 earth years.  Afterward, the being must be reborn again into the physical.  Comments anyone?

Hi Mattimo,

Welcome to the board. It's an interesting idea that perhaps the astral being might have a "lifespan" in which it exists. Some of us tend to think of a certain "state of being" as being immortal simply because it IS in the afterlife but I really don't know about that.

It seems that some might be reborn into the physical and perhaps some might be "reborn" into some other state which we can't describe, perhaps like being merged into some kind of higher consciousness. I tend to see myself as simutaneously existing in more than one state. There is my physical body here, and perhaps many "layers" of "higher" or "deeper" consciousness, which I strive to experience and understand, to which I feel very connected.

I have heard so many different ideas discussed, and some say that it is not easy to be reborn into the physical, so if it is "required" then it would make sense that a certain "lifespan" would be required in the astral body as well. But that is almost to look at it through 3-dimensional eyes. I tend to think that all existence is simultaneous and preserved in a way that is unfathomable to our 3D or C1, as Bruce calls it, understanding.

I find these kind of statements about specific time periods of existence difficult to accept anymore because I am beginning to completely question and alter my own understanding of time. I am completely losing track of my sense of time, and it seems to be expanding and contracting constantly as I deliberately open my mind to possibility.

love, blink

I'm not sure that I understand the term "dying" correctly. The way I look at it is that we are never "dying" per say, but just switching the channels on the t.v. set. The channels are always there, we are just choosing which ones to watch. I suppose if one considers the half milisecond it takes for one channel to switch to the next as representing the act of dying.

I agree with many on this board with the notion that we are in the "afterlife" now... we have in fact never left it. It is an impossibility. We have just chosen this particular channel for the right here, right now.

There's a lot of "channels" to choose from. Especially if one upgrades their cable plan!

chuckles here. I would like very much to upgrade my cable. however, it is too costly!
but I am starting to think differently about what costly means versus downright being a tightwad.    Smiley

sorry, I think I'm meandering..I agree with your philosophy of life is a movie every since I read ACIM and The Path.  and to focus is to change the channel.

thats interesting about the astral having a lifespan. have thought often about it. have read similar material about the lifespan there. 500 to 1,000 linear years of our time is a lot of leeway in there. still, I think time is speeded up over there and the measuring of it is so different..theres no sun or moon to keep track of the days unless u desire to create a thought form of a sun or moon to mark the days passing.

heres a little ditty I read once. this guy who was a drunk died. he rose to the astral level and some retrievers came to get him to a higher level. come with us they said. he asked where and why. they said we need to take you to your higher self to do the merge thing. he said ok, sounds good. so at that moment two of him appeared. the good side of him went with the retrievers while the addictive lower natured astral being stayed on the lower astral for a short life span. the lower nature went into an astral counterpart of a favorite bar and vicariously inhaled the fumes of another drunk.  I heard these lower natures will gradually begin to dissolved their molecules and lost lucidity and be recycled.

just a thought. the real part of the soul goes on. I think the negative thought forms are what dissolves.

I agree Chuckles. It is costly to upgrade one's cable plan. However, a lot of possibilities open up with the extra "channels" if one so chooses. I think I wouldn't mind getting Discovery amongst my existing listings. "Cosmic Discoveries" would suit me quite well! You never know what you might find floating (bubbling) around in space:  Smiley

I agree with you as well that the real part of the soul goes on; (i.e. the best parts in who we are, the best parts in who we are to become.) The negative aspects shed like snake skin. They are mere hurdles of learning that need not exist in the higher realms of the hereafter. Furthermore, how could our soul unleash it's full fury of unfathomable freedom floating bliss twere it grounded by negativity?
