Does "eternity" frighten You?
Jun 15th, 2006 at 3:00am

Lately I have been full of a lot of fears.. that is one of the reasons I sought out this forum, to mollify my fears. Anyways, I was contemplating the possibility of "living" (in the spiritual sense) for eternity.. it seems currently that this is the nature of things. This seems to scare me, I mean, forever! On the other hand, NOT living forever, dying and simplying knowing nothing else beyond that frightens me as well.

Of course, we are very limited in perception here on Earth, and possibly there is something else different than both a permanent end and a never-ending life, something we can't yet comprehend.

Do any of these things scare You (dying and there being no afterlife, or the eternal afterlife, etc.)?

Love Sven.

An eternity without change, that would frighten me. Where there is no movement in any kind of direction. It would seem however that this is not the case at all from what I have read, and talked about with various people.

I would be more bothered by the idea of there being nothingness. Somehow that would affront my sense of what is right. It would seem a collosal waste, and the universe from how I am coming to understand it doesnt work that way.

I have a lot of the fears that you do, and like yourself am working through them with the board here. Thanks for sharing your worries, as in a sense it makes me feel a lot better about what I am going through as well.

Hi Sven and Dave There is nothing to be afraid of ,there is afterlife, as there is no death but a passing from one existence to another ,the afterlife will be there for us all one day, and by the sounds of you both i dont think your are very old in years ,you will both through the years progress within in yourselves, and will gain knowledge of this ,and you will feel less afraid as the years go by ,i have a lot of knowledge of the afterlife, and when you both go there one day, when its your time, it is a world full of love and knowledge, and you do not have to spend eternity there it is your own choice ,you have the choice to reincarnate if you want to , if im right and your only young ,which i think you are ,just live your lives ,both of you and learn and do all the things you would like to acheive in life ,and read about this, and even go to a spiritualist church near you if you can, as you both will gain much knowledge there about the afterlife.live life to the full ,love and god bless you both juditha

Its scary to consider both sides of the coin....both living and dying......However.....I am sure it never gets mundane ......when we "die" we dont sit on a cloud and play our harp for the rest of eternity....that would be a terrifying thought!......When you die you are actually born again and the possibilities are endlesss.......when you are ready to come back to earth....you will most likely not even consciously remeber the afterlife and you will have the same  fears (possibly) but you get to live out another story......its like a recycling of experiences over and over again.....there is free will in both life and death (which i'd prefer to call a transition). So you can stay up their if you like and experiece a multitude of things that you never had the chance to experience on the earth plane.....How could that get tiring?!

Juditha, how kind of you to have me down as a young person:) I head towards 38 this July and I keep thinking I am going through my mid life crisis early. LOL. You are right though, there is plenty of time to learn about what is to come.

Baby duck, the tao quotation is very apt. I have had a great deal of fear flowing through me for the past six months, and I am trying to let go of a lot of it now. Knowing there is something to come after death helps a great deal.

Juditha,

I do indeed take it as a compliment that you thought I was younger. There is a small part of me that wishes I was eighteen again. Setting out on this voyage of discovery at an earlier time. Then I kind of realise that this would not necessarily be such a good thing:)

Does everyone believe in old souls? Does thinking about the afterlife indicate that perhaps we are older souls than those who do not think about it at all? I don't mean that in a detrimental way to those who don't think about such things. I just wondered.

Hi Dave i myself have always beleived that we have all lived many lives before ,i remember this medium saying at the spiritualist church i go to that we are all old souls in a way, having lived many times before, and he also said the reason for that is that our spirit is forever learning and progressing in each life ,but he also did say that we do have the choice to reincarnate,so some souls are older than others .love and god bless you juditha

Release your fears. LOVE and fear cannot exist at the same time. I'll keep writing this until it finally gets through to all of you who have so many fears. Open your hearts to the LOVE that is there. Take the word fear out of your vocabulary. Replace it with LOVE. You were created in LOVE. Sometimes people just like to wallow in fear when it is so wonderful to live with LOVE in your heart.

I lived in fear for so many years and if I could overcome it, then you can too. The Monroe Institute has a wonderful 2 tape program for "Opening The Heart."  I highly recommend it. Here is a link to the tapes which are on sale as they are phasing out the tapes for CD's. I paid a lot more for these tapes than they are on sale for now:
http://www.hemi-sync.com/store/home.php?cat=15
Even though there are are only 2 tapes, there are 4 lessons to listen to.

And why would eternity frighten anybody? I am so looking forward to learning and growing for eternity.

With Heartfelt Love,
Mairlyn

Hey Sven_Und_Jen, with regards to your post:

"Anyways, I was contemplating the possibility of "living" (in the spiritual sense) for eternity.. it seems currently that this is the nature of things. This seems to scare me, I mean, forever! On the other hand, NOT living forever, dying and simplying knowing nothing else beyond that frightens me as well."

I use to feel this way... with respect to being overwhelmed by thoughts of living forever; thoughts of ceasing to exist forever.  However, when looking at all of life as constantly evolving/changing, it tends to diminish this overwhelming conundrum. For instance, we know that a change occurs once we leave this body and enter seemlessly into the afterlife... like a caterpillar growing wings and flying away. This concept keeps our minds at ease when considering the thoughts you ponder with regards to our physical reality. I take this concept one step further and say that this change... this "sprouting of the wings" continues, ad infintum. So, there is no "bore factor" to it, or idealistic "foreverness" to it, for it is always changing/evolving/becoming more and more exciting with child-like excitement/magic. That's just my view anyway.

Sorry to ask what appears to be a silly question but we are always being told that in the Afterlife time does not exist. Time, per se, is a man-made concept anyway.
Therefore, if time does not exist how can eternity, since a simple definition of eternity is "time without end"?

Eternity in the physical sense would be "time without end"... However, I don't believe that the defintion of the word "time" was given any consideration with regards to the properties of the afterlife/astral planes... Time is strictly in the eye of the beholder. When one approaches the speed of light, time becomes stagnant and appears not to pass. When we join with the light we are also moving with the light... at the speed of light; and therefore, time does not pass. For you become the totality of time in and of itself. So, as Marilyn has quoted: "It's no-time without end."

Isn`t that a contradiction in itself?

If there is no-time how can it be without end? For there to be an end there must be a start, so, therefore, we are back to time existing.

end (noun) :- The point in time at which something ends

My definition of eternity is that having no beginning and no end. Infinity.

Consider the possibility that time does not really exist in the earth plane and that time is really only a belief system that serves to further our belief in separation.

Time is how we define our lives.  For example, we eat and sleep at a certain time, we go to work and get off work at a certain time.  When we remember an enjoyable occasion such as our birthday, etc. we do this according to a certain time.  Our scientists define our world according to space and time.

If we did not define our world and our life according to time, would it still exist?  Isn't the only reason we are aware of time passing is because we have created it in our belief system?

A friend of mine is always on what he calls "Indian Time" where he pays little attention to time.  He eats when he's hungry, sleeps when he's tired, events such as a picnic isn't planned for a certain time... it just happens when others show up, etc.  I have tried doing this myself, which made me realize the feeling of no time in my everyday life.  It was a wonderful way to live because I found myself able to focus on the present moment more easily.

Love, Kathy Smiley
