Extreme Emotion Swing During Sleep?
May 23rd, 2006 at 6:43pm

Okay, I've thought about it all day and it just doesn't make any sense to me, maybe it will to you guys.

I was sleeping good last night, real good, then for no appearent reason I woke up feeling severly depressed.  To the point that I could feel it in my chest.  I've never had this feeling before, like there was no reason to live.  But I quikly fell back asleep.

This morning I woke up feeling as happy as ever, and I just can't figure out what had happened last night.

Do you guys know somthing I don't?

Undecided

Hey Molta, I too have experienced exactly what you wrote... I believe, for me at least, that the mind can often times "wander" uncontrollably (unfiltered) during sleep. At times it probably wanders across some very negative emotions/thought patterns during sleep, and at the moment of waking, the last thing to leave the psyche is the emotion felt during that particular dream outing, even if one remembers nothing else of the dream. I too have felt very helpless/depressed sometimes after waking up in the middle of the night/in the morning... Like my very essence was stained with an utterly disgusting feeling of dread/misery. I could never describe it because I didn't feeling that way upon falling asleep; it was only upon waking from a dream. That leads me to believe that upon waking, some of the emotions experienced during dreams can leak out into one's conscious awake psyche.

(That's as far as I can guess, unless it's some kind of weird morning chemical change/reaction.)

Thank you very much for the awesome reply, dread, that's the perfect way to put it.  I still can't believe how powerful it was, I felt like I knew somthing horribly wrong was going to happen and there was nothing I could do, which Is why I was so shocked when I woke up.
