Age the way we know it does not exist in the afterlife.
Appearance is something you choose and decide, and soul's maturity has more to do with lessons learned, than with earthly years past since the momment of creation.
After death one of the processes we go through is healing and restoration of our energy. However we might stilll choose to appear old when visiting a loved one because that's the way they remember us.

Peace.

SC.

Ps. Welcome aboard

Alright, well, another chance to plug my "Pull" theory, rather than the traditional push model.  If you think about how this works in life, we never really know how we appear to other people, especially those we love.  I doubt the choice changes in the afterlife.

Basically however the person seeing you wants to see you is how you appear to them, since many will see you who knew you from all different times of your life.

If you are standing next to your grandmother and grandfather in the afterlife, will you and granny see the same man? No.  Furthermore, he won't have to "choose" how to appear differently to each of you.  The viewer does the choosing, because they only knew one person, so by default it's up to the viewer.  Some people don't know they'll be appearing to another person in the afterlife, maybe they didn't even know the person wants to see them or made much notice of them in life, so how would they know how to appear?  They would probably get it wrong and not be recognized, unless there's some magical psychic recognition process, which makes the whole discussion moot.

Sorry Bud_S, but I disagree.
I don't think you can apply the same rules to the afterlife and the physical reality.
When a spirit  visits with a relative, they show themselves as they were before death because that's what everyone who knew them would expect and recognise.
In the afterlife things work very differently.
There are no grandmothers or grandfathers there. We all come from one universal Source. Sure you will have stronger ties with some souls but that's because they belong to your same soul group or they have shared past lives with you, if reincarnation is possible.
True, when you arrive in the afterlife you will see the spirit of your granny just as you remember her and your grandad will see something completely different to you. But this doesn't mean the viewer does the choosing. After you have adjusted to the afterlife you will see gandma just as granddad does.
Because grandma was not her earthly body, that was just the result of mixing her earthly parents DNA, and she existed before that.

Peace.

SC.

Jambo, yes we see through our spiritual eyes. Every part of our body has a spiritual part to it.
This seeing becomes a knowing of what we are seeing and this knowing completes the picture.

SunriseChaos is correct we take on the form we are comfortably with and this form is our projection to other people in the spiritual realm.

Everything in the spiritual world is thought.  If we wanted to move from the blue lake to the fruit tree, in the spiritual world, we think about it and we move there.  Not like the physical world where we tell our brain that we need to move our legs to walk in a certain direction.  This part is skipped it is direct from thinking to doing.

Bud_S; that is a wonderful line you wrote: 'we never really know how we appear to other people' ... i think its because we do not know how we appear to ourselves first of all ...

Jambo,

How can we see any thing or anybody when we are dreaming?  We don't have physical eyes in the dream world either.  Maybe the answer to both questions is the same?

Please SC, don't be sorry to disagree.  I admit my approach to this is slightly different, and more based upon the afterlife having similar processes to the physical.  This is because I believe the afterlife came first, as we were spirit stuff first, and the physical was a result.  They are two parts of the same existance, in my mind.  Given that premise, I look for how I can reverse engineer my way back to how the afterlife may work.  I respect your opinion completely, I think we just have a different premise.  This is a common form of disagreement here, and I certainly wouldn't argue that you are wrong and I am right.

Now please explain something that seems to be a contradiction in your statement:

"True, when you arrive in the afterlife you will see the spirit of your granny just as you remember her and your grandad will see something completely different to you. But this doesn't mean the viewer does the choosing."

How can both be true?  Does granny know what you remember?  If she does, see my comment about "magical psychic recognition" (rendering the discussion non-applicable in its entirety).
