Grief & The spirit world

Is it true that excessive grief hinders a spirits progression over there? as this to me is sketchy as different accounts tell me different things.

Yes, excessive grief over a long period of time can hold the soul back from progressing. Grieving is a normal, natural process that must be gone through, but then there comes a time when the one left on this side needs to let go so the soul can progress.

My favorite author, Deepak Chopra, has an area on the Chopra Centre website, where he answers readers questions.
Here is what he had to say about the way spirits are affected by their loved ones.
Quote:
Love and Death
March 21, 2006

Q: I am reading the Book of Secrets and I do not understand this: people on the physical level grieve for their loved ones and miss them when they die. But people who "die," who move into the non-local domain, don't miss the people they have loved on earth. Is that correct? My question is, if that's not death, what is it?

A: When the body leaves the soul we call that death, but the witnessing awareness, the inner self which persists, does not die. Life goes through a radical transformation in which the non-local domain of consciousness is no longer tethered to a physical body or bound by the constraints of others and material life.

It’s not that the deceased can no longer have attention toward their loved ones, but the from the soul’s point of view, their physical life has completed because it is time for their evolution to continue along different themes, so a preoccupation with embodied loved ones is not typical.

Love,
Deepak

Well I understand the reasoning but I can't help feeling disappointed at the possibility of his idea being the reality.
I wish it had come from a different person as it would be easier to dismiss. But I have deep admiration for Deepak Chopra, he is one of the wisest people alive and his books always manage to shake me up inside so I don't know what to think....
I would like to think that my father and my two grandmothers didn't just detach themselves from me and that I'm still important to them as still they are to me after all this years.

Peace.

Rest assured that Deepak doesn't know it all. Know that your father and two grandfathers didn't 'detach' themselves from you. Love doesn't work this way. This is my firm belief.

SunriseChoas; Deepak Chopra has so humbly and simply spoken the truth in your message from him.
What a kind soul.

Hi Marilyn  Smiley
im afraid, with deepest respects, i find your postings to be disturbing.  May i suggest that you rise higher than the astral realm?

I dont mean to be horrible at all to you, this is my observation and i await your honest reply if you so wish to reply.

it is not correct to talk to someone about their family in the spirit world unless you are on a intimate basis with them (please excuse me then if you are)  SunriseChoas has no idea if this is infact his family and to be frank neither do you in my opinion ... there are things called shapeshifters in the astral realms - one cannot believe anything in the astral realm.  Plus the fathers would not allow you to make contact with them (unless you intimately know them)

We do have to detach ourselves.

Please excuse may candid manner with you - i am not taking it lightly and i would like to enter a discussion with you.

I'm sorry that you find my posts disturbing. I do not speak from the astral realms. I speak from experience in the higher realms.

First, Deepak Chopra does not have all the knowledge of the universe. I'm sure that Bruce Moen would agree that he doesn't have all the knowledge and neither did RAM have all the knowledge. They wrote from the knowledge they gained from their own personal experience.

Now as to detaching. There is never a need to detach from our loved ones on the other side. Extended grieving does tend to hold a soul close to the earth plane, so I advise people to grieve because it's a natural and needed emotion. However, hanging onto the grief serves no purpose.

This does not mean that a person 'detaches' from the loved one. Love can never be detached. Love is the connection to all. We can communicate with anyone on the other side without 'detaching.'

With Love,
Mairlyn Wink

Augoeideian,
Please don't take this the wrong way but to say that Mairlyn's posts are disturbing is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read on this board.
You might agree or disagree with her but I feel she always posts from the heart. All I ever sense is love in her posts. How could that ever be disturbing?.

And Mairlyn thanks for your reply. I didn't think it was disturbing and I hope you get back at least half of the love you give.

Peace.

I for one, value your honesty... as i know alot of people will claim to be love bunny's, go around with a smile and a pray - but when the time comes for them to care, they be no where.

Say what you think, and think what you feel.

Adios amigo

SC and Craig, thank you. Perhaps Augoeideian thought I was putting down Deepak, which I wasn't. I also get defensive when Bruce's and Robert Monroe's books/methods are put down by Beserk. I've learned to overlook this though, thank God.

Much Love,

Greetings Jambo,
It seems like grief could hinder a spirit because grief is like a chaotic tumult of energy caught inside with no where to go. It could eat away at the spirit as it ricochets around inside us.  But the people who come out of their grief and focus that energy on a project related to the tragedy, they often seem spiritually elevated and energized in relation to their new purpose. It might be the same energy, only now made useful.
(Like if their child is killed by a car and they get involved in changing the traffic laws there or even nationally.)
Cultures where grief can be shown and wailed away have also learned how to get rid of its destructive energy.
I hope you are not feeling grief and are just bringing up the question hypothetically.
