Well said Kardec, thanks for starting a topic on re-incarnation
I agree with what you say and to add further;
The approximate, earth time, between reincarnations is four hundred years. This is counting is if someone is on a 'role out' plan and may vary however, it is not normally less. Except in the unique cases as Kathy mentioned under the incarnation topic -
"consider the possibility that we also can incarnate within the same body during the same lifetime."
This has been known to happen in unique initiates -Comte de Saint-Germain comes to mind who was born in 1660 with records of still be around in 1800 ... as well as Bibical figures ...
Some may not choose to re-incarnate for much longer than four hundred years.
The spirit must reincarnate in the mortal flesh from time to time until it has gained sufficient knowledge of those things that must be learnt, before Earth can be left and that greater life of spiritual at-one-ment be approached in the higher material and spiritual spheres of cosmic creation.
For God requires us to come to Him willingly; to give willing service and this is why we have free-will to attain that state of perfection through our own individual experiences.
As Kardec said - there are different levels in the afterlife. We can also call these realms, starting at realm one and advancing further.
Realm One - is the Earth realm, physical life in all its manifestations.
Realm Two - refers to the darker places, which are created by troubled souls who are attempting to deal with their problems and confusions. They are guided by angels and higher souls who lovingly take on this work.
Realm Three - is the first of the spirit realms of light and beauty, and most will come to this area after death. This is the world of joy and beauty, here life goes on in a similar vein as it did on Earth, in a spiritual essence. Their world is an apparently physical one, surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful objects, natural landscape, buildings and so on. Most souls identify themselves with their own body, even though they now understand they can alter their bodies to their own desires.
Naturally the changes from Earth life are dramatic, but the similarities are, too. The emotional tone of the realm is clear to everyone - its relates to the importance of helping others and taking joy in existence. The sense of a loving God pervades everywhere.
During dwelling in the realm and between realms
the spirit comes back to earth for various reasons; mainly to strenghten their spirit; for soul progression in the realm/s.
The first signs of soul progression is a growing disinterest in the apparently material world around them and this is an indication of the ability to go further. There is too, an increasing joyfulness in the heart, a feeling that one will burst with happiness and in one's love for others.
Realm Four - here the spirit starts a joining of consciousness although maintaining an awareness of ones individuality, one starts to feel the deep love of being with other spirits - part of an entity.
At this stage the need for an appearance of a body disappears and the spirit is now 'dressed' in an etheric quality of light.
And further the Realms go with the same progression and enlightment.
There is a process of applying to go back to realm one, which is aided together with our guides and our Oversoul. Our Oversoul dwells in a higher realm and fundamentally this process is to ultimately re-unite with our Oversoul.
The point in numbering and naming these realms is to clarify that travel between realms is not automatic. In order to explore a higher realm, one must obtain training and a guide to lead the way.
All souls can go to a 'lower' realm at will - except from realm two to the physical world, realm one.
Going from Realm three to two often must be accompanied by a guide who helps them stay protected from degrading or unhappy experiences.
Individuals have the strength to rise above a lower realm as they please and this is done by coming back into the earth realm. This realm physically changes the spirit in order to progress into further realms.

Love to all.
