The best you can do is have him get proper care, with sugar/pressure/cholesterol/diet/weight.

Since I haven't conversed with a spirit, I really can't compare personally, but I would say that if I had a conversation with a spirit,  that alone would confirm it for me.  The prediction, if it does not come to pass this year is secondary.  I figure, if we are not all-knowing on the earth plane, then why would we necessarily be all-knowing on the next plane?

So in my book, if the conversation was real and not imagined, the contact and the afterlife are real. 

Don't forget that in voodoo and using thought/magic, the negative thoughts of death can sometimes literally scare someone to death or become self-fulfilling prophecies.
