I'm hoping someone can understand

Two things

Ok I have been entering meditation. I learned a little about powers of the mind. I really don't understand most of this. I even like to do this. I just don't know where to start. I admit to having a strong fear of death. I have since I first learned of death. I tried being a Christian and diving into the bible. The bible has stopped bringing me peace. I found this site. I have been thinking about even going to a workshop. It seems like this man really knows what he talking about. It seems like people here know how to enter a plane I can't. I just like to know how to get started.

Ok my other thing is this. A few weeks ago I was in bed. Staring at the ceiling and thinking of nothing. At some point I heard my name called. Clear as a bell. I even answered it. It was not a voice I knew. It was the voice of a woman that I am sure of. I just don't know how to make scent of it. It kind scares me. I never had anything like that happen. I know it was not a dream. I know I was not asleep. I have not had a dream I can remember in years. Do one of you have an explanation of this. Oh if it help it was on the first night I learn to meditation.

Hi Icestar,

The voice may be someone trying to encourage you or just passing by. Anything is possible.

Overcoming your fears will occur naturally in time if you regularly use guided meditations focusing on peace or relaxation on tapes or cds.  Focus your thoughts on peace and love when you can, especially during any kind of meditation or when you are in a situation in which you feel fear (easier said than done sometimes!Smiley  Even repeating the word Love, or Peace, or One in your mind can be calming and be a great meditation.

Be open to a higher guidance to help you and all will be well.

And do try Bruce Moen's cds if you're interested.  You can definitely go as slowly as you like with those.  Let everyone know how it goes because there are lots of people here to encourage you.

love, blink

Don't have much to add, as Blink said it pretty well...  Its like anything, the more you do it, experience it, the more normal it becomes, and the easier it becomes.

A lot of people here seem to have had unusual, or "mystical" experiences, and it helps to know that other people have experienced similar things...so yeah, like Blink said, definitely share your experiences...  Its one more voice, and we need all the voices we can get if we are ever to change this world for the better....

Cause what use are these experiences and knowing if we don't apply it in physical existence?

I've had this experience myself many, many times.

Blink is right on. Thanks for sharing.

Hi IceStar,
when you try meditation or even just be willing to get into other states of awareness, you might experience new things like that voice. I had that a period of time then it vanished. Or, you could remember dreams more often. Your sleep might become different. And a couple of other things. If it's going to get too much for you, you can slow it down by saying your wish in your mind.

Hi Icestar-

What you are doing is what you are supposed to do. There is nothing that you have to start by studying this or learning that.  It's like sneezing - it just comes.

To the degree that we "try to do it right" we can't do it at all. Your experiences indicate that you are progressing. So keep on and have faith.  After all, it wouldn't be a "new discovery" if you already knew all about it.

However, if you want an example that will reliably lead you forward, think of dancing. (Love making also fits here, but is not always appropriate to all circumstances. If you like that direction, there is Tantra.) As the dance consumes you, you find that you are less and less involved with thinking-planning-reasoning-figuring-describing-comparing and more and more you just DO. When you just DO, then all you can do is to just BE.  When you just DO and just BE then you are part of the big ISness and BECOMINGness, and you get interesting experiences that people who are perpetually set apart in selfishness are denying themselves. While you are having those interesting experiences, you can extend yourself by loving, rescuring others, and so on. Besides, it's fun!
