Stuck in a Dream
Nov 7th, 2005 at 8:07am

Two weeks ago Friday I had a really creepy experience. I wouldn't call it an OBE, but I wouldn't call it a true dream either. I don't know what to call it. The scenario was, I go back in time to a 1400's schoolhouse. An "extra" dream afterwards I was in the 80's. That's a bit strange, since I never even saw the 80's! The setting was my mama's neighborhood when she was a teenager in the mid-80's, and there was a mall right where a current school is today (not true, there was NEVER a mall there). Anyway, the weird part is the whole thing seemed completely real. I knew I was in a dream right from the start. But I couldn't find a way out! I was asking all the people around how to get out and what year it was, but the responses were weird and didn't come together. Like they said it was 1398 when it was 1986. Even though they were a little strange, they acted as true human beings. Not like something I would create in my head. So I spent most of the time exploring the environment, communicating with the people, etc. I estimate that both dreams lasted approximately 2 hours. Well, I finally got out, and I was relieved to see that family that I never thought I would see again. Can anyone explain this horrifying sequence?

There's also another thing. Lately, I've had "mirages" waking up. The first one I woke up  on the couch in my grandmothers family room, although the night before I fell asleep on my bed at home. So I reached over to touch the coffee table to see if it was real. Instead I felt my matress, and everything started to change into my room. The next one I awoke to find a book on my lap. I reached out to touch it and my hand right through it, then it dissappeared. I know for a fact these are objects and settings from my dream, but why do I take them with me from the physical world?

Bethany,

To me it seems that you are exploring, and you may be having an OBE just before waking.  If you close your eyes, and you imagine every detail of your grandparents' room, while lying down, you may be able to convince yourself you are actually there, when you are not.  This is an exercise in imagination that is often used to provoke OOBE.

So to my outlook you are exploring, and perhaps going around and that is why you are a bit unnerved when you wake up.

I am starting to think that there is a profound difference between dreams and OOB.  If we spend a part of time while asleep not in dreams, I believe most of us aren't aware of it.  Like the "schools," Robert Monroe or Bruce may have spoke of - we don't seem to remember those on wakening.  Or several well known astral travelers being told that they visit certain areas "many times," eventhough they aren't aware that they ever did.

I have had vivid dreams these past two weeks but they clearly were not related to school in the sense that we understand it.

Bethany:

I believe that your higher self is trying to talk to you through dreams and the mirages you see afterwards.

My guess is that it sent you the messages it sent you, because it believes that you can figure them out. Especially since it sent you mirages. Try to intuit what each part means.

Thanks Matthew, recoverer.

It's probably the next thing to sleep paralysis: I become concious during a dream before it is supposed to end. My brain freaks out because I am in a world it created, so it quickly deletes the evidence. Like if you are drinking out of a can of soda during the dream, then wake up and find your hand is in the position it was during the dream. You try to take another sip, but find out it isn't even real. One time before I was concious while in a dream and wanted to get out, so I closed my eyes and kneeled and woke up. I wonder why sometimes you just can't get out, like my recent experience. Maybe it was a moral, like I should respect my family for always being there for me?

One of my first dream/obe occured to me when I was around 3-of all things it was lollies falling like rain, I actually reached up to grab them but my hand went straight through them-and even to this day it was like I was wide awake.
