     Hey Ryan,

I play guitar and lap steel. I've played slide guitar in rock bands and played in country bands. I don't do that anymore though. Never got past playing in bars and little clubs. The money was short and the late nights while holding a day-job made it less fun as time went on.

The stuff I play for fun is old blues, gospel, old-timey, jazz, irish, and singer-songwriter stuff.

Keep playing!  Music is one of the greatest things in my life, the gift that keeps giving & giving.

"And i gotta say Justin!!! Thanks so much to Irene, I am so grateful and truly appreciate what she did for me, I now have 2 CD's of Pearl Jam, 'Rearview Mirror: The Best Of'. Ive got it all now and must admit I am impressed, i like this! Gotta listen to more though, I have a feel for it but need to get the whole view . Irene also sent me a band called PowderFinger, and i love these so much already, specially track one! It is such a good song and i relate it to me and New Zealand and really feel it.

Awesome!  That was really nice of Irene Wink.  Thats a pretty good CD, but if you have the time and can download songs, check out those ones that Ricardo and i mentioned, especially "Brother" its a really good instruemental and have a feeling you may really like it.

Some of their stuff is a little heavy and/or melancholy, and lately i don't tend to be as attracted to their music which is like that...lol but then again i was born under the bad sign, Capricorn, so melancholy is something i've jived with a lot in my life, especially in the past.

I'm gonna do some research into the band you mentioned above too.  Never been to New Zealand, but feel in love with it after "Lord of the Rings" came out.  Such beautiful scenery...

Hey, does "voice" count as an instruement?  Oh well us vocalists usually get enough attention as it is anyways Grin

Much Joy to you all

I like psychedelic music.  Examples: beatles across the universe (the psychedelic version), led zep ramble on, battle of evermore, u2 lemon, crosby still nash young carry on.  It is those psychedelic vibrations that really do it for me.

i play the guitar, and music is my life, it's hard to describe the effect it's always had on me.

i'm trying to get my stuff heard, but it's hard when you're 20, with very little funds and amateur recordings. so i try to show the potential i would have with the right production.

if you're interested, you can hear a couple of songs here http://www.purevolume.com/sandinyoureyes ; Smiley

There is a song by Yes that has lyrics along these lines. These are the lyrics:

To Be Alive (hep Yadda)
Lyrics and Music by Jon Anderson, Steve Howe, Billy Sherwood, Chris Squire, Alan White, & Igor Khoroshev

           Not a lot is missing
           Every ounce of treasure found
And I believe that everyone should get that
           They're allowed
Suspected of belief that comes suspended
           In a sound
           And everybody wants some

It's the sound they make in heaven
It's a sound for here on earth
I've heard it in the whispering
Of the wonders that we search
           We've waited far too long
To hear the healing of the stars
           'N' everybody wants some

           Everybody wants some
           Everybody wants some
           Everybody wants some
           Everybody wants some
           To feel alive

Oh, does it get much better than this
Oh, does it get much better, much better
Oh, does it get much better than this, than
this

There's the sound that keeps you trying
There's the sound that makes you smile
There's a sound in every corner
Of the world that we survive

           Your temple is the harmony
           You feel the sacred ground
           Just wishing for the secret
           To appear within the sound
           Watching for the morning star
           The rhythm of the sun
I hear it in my waking dreams
           The singing has begun

The passion that we walk upon
           The passion that we bring
           Is written for the mountains
They love to hear us sing

           Everybody wants some
           Everybody wants some
           Everybody wants some
           Everybody wants some
           To feel alive

Oh, doesn't get much better than this
Oh, doesn't get much better than this, than this

           Who made me make believe
           I'm alive I'm living
           Never underestimate
           The signals coming to you
           Oh
           The sounding of the earth
It shakes you, yes it shakes you
           Oh
           The sounding of the earth
It shakes you, let it shake you

Hi Ryan,

Playing & singing really gets juices flowing for me. It doesn't happen every time, but often after a little while of playing & singing I'll enter into this expanded state that is also deeply grounded. Everything becomes vibration and at the same time I am occupying my physical form fully. All thought stops, there is a wonderful silence there, I listen to the music that's flowing through me as-if someone else was playing it, i mean I'm enjoying listening to it as it happens and am surprised at the life within it. Moments of discovery can happen; a song I've played a zillion times will start having new improvisations going on with it that surprise and delight me. I often sense non-physical beings around when I crack thru to that expanded place while in the creative flow... Man, playing gets a lot of energy moving, I am always surprised, everything is alive in that expanded/grounded place....    These words just poured out right now, hope something translates from them, maybe even make some sense.... I tell you brother, music is one powerful thing; when learning, it helps to have the goal in mind (that you wish to be a player) That way you might be a little more patient with yourself as you work on it, it takes time, you will jump levels in your learning, all of a sudden you'll be in a totally different place with it, being patient and consistent in your practice is key, not to expect immediate results, but just hang in there, do some practice every day, and be gentle with yourself. The rewards are infinite...

Hi,
I even experienced practising to play an instrument is improving your abilities in reaching different consciousness states in meditation. You know, you play and play and think I will never learn that trick- but suddenly you can do it, not with force, easily! And in my case this experiences are useful for learning to alter consciousness states at will. And it was the same when I learnt inline-skating. It's so cool when you notice "Hey! I can do it!"

Thats some pretty intense stuff there Tim  Shocked  You guys really make me want to pick up the guitar.   I've kind of experienced this with singing, sometimes its like you merge with the other vocalist, and the music, and you just BE, and its transcendant...  Other times, i will just start singing out of nowhere, and i come up with whole song lyrics and its a similar feeling, kind of losing yourself a bit, but with a heightened awareness and expansiveness too.

Thanks for sharing, and i think you explained it as well as somone can with using word symbols....

Peace

Heya everyone, just another music experience I have which I didn't think to mention as I have it so much it feels normal lol,  but anyway...

You know when you think of a song, well you sing the song and you sing it in your head and you imagine it. This is what we normally do to imagine a song right?? We can remember the tune but don't really hear it like in our ears....

Well now what If when you went to imagine the song and started to hear it yourself, as like listen out for it and then suddenly it plays! Yes it plays just like someone beside you has turned on a CD. Well I seem to have this abilty....

...Today at work, bit on constant background noise but I have done this when there is no noise as well, there can be no sound distractions or visual even (as in ones directly at you). I was getting on with my job and singing a little (lol helps the day go faster!) and I remember Guns and Roses - Sweet Child Of Mine. So i started imagining then guitar intro bit then suddenly it was like i could hear it, someone switched on a CD of it! Which of course they hadn't but if felt like it. Then the 2nd guitar came in and then the drums and then the vocals.

Now this is really hard to explain, its like I can play all 4 of these instruments (Inc Vocals) at once at ease, so I'm not concentrating I just hear them all play together because I am doing it myself (I dont just say i want to listen to this and hear it...that would be cool, i have to imagine it but its like im not even trying to, in effect I am just listening) and I can hear the music perfectly like we do here in my ears and head. I can even hear all the words perfectly and even when i stop singing it takes over and does all the bits i might not remeber about the song! Well conciously remember.

I do believe you have to have heard the song a few times since I think I am just re-experiencing the sound stored somewhere in my brain? But re-experiencing it like i did the first time I hear it in physical, exactly the same. Also i noticed after I have done one song it takes a couple of minutes before i can hear another song clearly, although i can keep repeating the same song for a while ok.

Also when someone else (for me who im working view) came back to the area and we were cleaning the machine and taken the bits apart well it seemed to only have half as good quality as I had a distraction which wasn't of my own cause. What I mean is i could be cleaning this machine on my own and still hear well, its just another presence seems to affect.

Well really just wondered if I'm not lonely in this ability?? lol and also interested as to hear where you think this sound comes from so perfectly at so easily?

Cheers!

Ryan

Dunno if its exactly the same as what you're relating, but i've really have heard songs "in my head", which sounded just like the songs in physical...  At first i just try to imagine what it sounds like, and sometimes it takes on a life of its own, and just starts actually playing.  When it happens, its pretty kool.

Haven't tried this for awhile, and almost sort of forgot about, so thanks for the reminder Ryan.

Since we both have heard voices, i think perhaps we could fall into the category of "clairaudient"?  Now, you being a musician and all, i think you could really develop your abilities to tap into the higher mental dimensions, where some really, really beautiful music is being thought up/created, and there for the borrowing.

I think some of the famour composers in history, more so transcribed, and translated music they were already "hearing" than just coming up with in on their own....  People like Bach, Mozart, or Beethoven...

Pretty kool stuff, and look forward to this happening with you  Smiley.

Peace

Hey Justin,

thanx for replying! yeah if they sound like there from the physical hearing then yeah thats what i get, tried to explain more just in case no one got me! lol but yeah that sounds it exactly. Its kinda cool because i get to listen to music at work, we cant bring anything in because dealing paints and solvents and could make the place go up apprantly!

I would love to hear music from the other side, apprantly its amazing! Maybe i can tap into a higher energy and really devote and let the music come out? I would need to be doing it 110% though, its my life but it isnt as i have a job etc. I feel it would really have to be my life before i can flow with it. Maybe an idea, some inspiration though! Have you heard any music from over there?

Not that i remember consciously.  But i can really imagine how beautiful and harmonious it must be....  but my path isn't the of the musician primarily, so i don't delve into it strongly.

  Good luck on your path,

In my mind I met one of my grandpas and he played organ which he did when he was alive. He liked the possibilities of the instruments over there. Also I met a schoolfriend who had passed over long time ago, he was a gifted guitar player and continued to be in his place up there- he has all the time for practising, no limits. In both cases I heard the music, but not as you, Ryan and Justin, but just like remembering "normally" music.

Hey Ryan,

Yeah i think i know what you mean. I'm kinda the butt of a joke around my friends. They can pick a random Phish CD (i have like 200 shows on CD haha) and play a song off it, and i can identify the show, date, and sometimes venue. I seem to have a good memory when it comes to those things as well.

Sometimes i can even 'recite' entire jams or solos (sometimes 3-5 minutes long) in my mind. Granted not all the time but sometimes. Alot of this has to do with frequency and the intensity i listen to music. But the ultimate goal of any musican is to play what they feel or 'see'/'hear' in their mind...maybe one day i'll get there...but i won't hold my breath haha.

anyway good stuff :thumbs up:
